In 1994, Tuffy Rhodes hit three homers on opening day and hit only five more over the next two seasons. Of course, Tuffy is the active leader in HR’s in Japan, but that doesn’t do you any good if your league only covers MLB. So what other hitters out there are doing their best Tuffy impersonation?

Emilio Bonifacio is hitting .600 with 4 R, 4 RBi, and 3 SB after three games. The best part of his situation is that he qualifies at 2B and 3B and has a starting gig thanks to a coach that believes in him. But the faith that Freddy Gonzales has in Bonifacio will likely fade as his bat likely will do. He’s a great short term bet while he remains hot, but don’t expect this to last more than a few weeks.

Tony Clark already has two homers, despite being a pinch hitter. He’ll get an occasional start, but this guy won’t get enough AB’s to make his power potential worth having.

Felipe Lopez has done exactly nothing since his two-homer opening day. This will be a good season for Lopez, but don’t expect a lot of power. Lopez probably qualifies at several positions giving him position flexibility and a slot at the top of the batting order will provide plenty of opportunities.

Adam Lind is hitting .500 with 6 RBi in three games. This kid is a highly regarded prospect that will continue to hit. This one is no fluke. I wouldn’t expect him to average two RBi a game for the rest of the season, but I would expect a good hitting season from Lind.
