In fantasy hockey, it is imperative that the goalies you are starting each night are actually playing the majority of the games for their team.  If you drafted Tomas Vokoun, Pascal Leclaire, or Jose Theodore, you probably thought that you were drafting an undisputed starter between the pipes.  Strong play by each of their back-ups, Craig Anderson, Steve Mason, and Brent Johnson, has limited their starts to approximately half of their respective team’s games.  The Florida Panthers’ Craig Anderson, has never started in more than 21 games in an NHL season, and will surely surpass that total this year, posting an impressive .941 save % through 14 games.  Oakville native Steve Mason has been one of several outstanding rookies for the Columbus Blue Jackets so far, posting 6 wins and a pair of shutouts through 11 games.  He has started 4 of the Blue Jackets last 5 games and unless he starts to falter, he should remain the starter.  The Washington Capitals’ offseason acquisition Jose Theodore has been nothing more than shaky, and Brent Johnson has been solid when needed. 

Surprisingly, Chris Osgood may be on the cusp of joining the once-was-a-starter club.  Despite his 11-1-4 record, Osgood has let in some weak goals this season, and his .876 save % and 3.17 GAA are not numbers you would expect from a defending Stanley Cup champion goaltender.  Ty Conklin could very well get more starts down the stretch, as Mike Babcock tries to keep his squad a contender in the competitive West.
