I am not a big fan of multiple version numbers for Draft Buddy while we are in the thick of draft season. I prefer to make feature changes in the offseason for each of baseball and football, to allow for thorough testing and to ensure proper backwards compatibility for members who already downloaded (not that they can’t download again).
However, when I do make what I consider a big change, resulting in a new feature, then the version number needs to change to signify and celebrate the change. With that I give you version 3.0 of the fantasy baseball version of Draft Buddy. It is now available from our download page.
The change? ZiPS projections, courtesy of Dan Szymborski, are now included in Draft Buddy. That gives us three sets of projections for the upcoming baseball season. ZiPS along with Steamer-Fangraphs and Zeile from FantasyPros.
On the minor change front, what did bother me – and maybe few people really noticed this – is when I want to update both (now all three) sets of projections, Draft Buddy would tell us all of them were updated after updating the first one. The Check for Update button, which compared “last time updated” and “available update”, now tracks those variables by source which should fix that. Please feel free to check this once you have version 3.0.
Projections, ADP and depth charts are all updated as of today. The updates should work equally well for versions 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, but of course you can’t get ZiPS unless you upgrade to 3.0. There were some pretty significant depth chart changes since last week now the boys have hit the field and some have, inevitably, gotten hurt. Run the update, stay on top of the news, and good luck in your upcoming drafts!
