[Help Desk] Fantasy Baseball Draft Buddy Tech Support Q&A

March 12, 2015 By Draft Buddy Leave a Comment

I received some tech support emails yesterday and today after sending out the latest member newsletter announcing Draft Buddy 3.0, and as more and more fantasy baseball drafts are ramping up. These questions and answers may be of value to other members, so I decided to post them.

ZiPS and Carlos Gomez

Question:

Hey Mike, where in the new Draft Buddy are ZiPS projections located? Also, Why is Carlos Gomez so low compared to other sites? Thanks for the hard work as usual!

– Loyal fan of yours in football and baseball

Answer:

Thanks! You have version 3.0? Go to the action tab and there is a drop-down where you can select what projections you want to update. Select ZiPS – should be third on the list – and then hit Update Projections. That will put ZiPS into the Site A section. Then you can use the buttons on that tab to move them to Site B or C if you like, and select another set of projections and update those (to A).

Once you have all 3 updated sets in there, then you can use the allocation keys on the options tab to decide which one to use for the cheatsheets.

Hey… this just came to me, but if you downloaded v.3.0, it already has the updated projections including ZiPS. They are in the third yellow section of projections on the hitters data and pitchers data tabs.

We do have Gomez OF #5 and top 13 overall, in my default settings using Steamer projections. Remember the cheatsheets are based on projections, so if a guy is more risky (too young, unproven, too old, injury risk) or less risky (high floor, consistent, etc.) then you may want to adjust for that in the rankings after the pure projections based rankings. That is probably what is happening here… or Steamer is just a little lower on him.

Rankings Adjustments

Question:

I really appreciate this software. Is there a way to adjust player rankings without changing the projections? Thanks.

Answer:

Thanks! Yes, there is. What I suggest is running Draft Buddy for your league rules and scoring, so the cheatsheets are based off the projections and based on the settings you want to use to get them relatively close to what you would like. Then, go to the hitters, pitchers and overall tabs. Notice the yellow highlighted cells for the Rank and Tier columns? You can change those numbers and then hit the appropriate “Re-Rank” buttons on the cheatsheets and it should re-sort the players the way you want them.

Did you get version 3.0? There was a small problem with this feature on the overall rankings at some point but I can’t remember when I fixed it.

It’s Alive! Fantasy Baseball Draft Buddy 1.0 Now Available

February 5, 2015 By Draft Buddy Leave a Comment

The first version of Draft Buddy for the 2015 fantasy baseball season is now available for download!

We are having some slight technical difficulties this morning with the website. Namely, we changed servers (yay), but that buggered our member login software (boo).

I didn’t want to be deterred however, so the file is now available for open download. You do not need to register or login to access it. Maybe come back later and make it official? It helps me track numbers so I know how many people are using it, and then at that time you can use our help desk integrated with the member software for tech support.

Right now Draft Buddy is the same as last season. It includes two sets of projections, one from Steamer-Fangraphs and the Zeile projections from FantasyPros. It includes player stats from the 2012 to 2014 seasons, plus 2014 post-All-Star Game stats. You can set up roto or fantasy points scoring leagues, choose a wide variety of stat categories plus position options. It tracks your drafts and does all sorts of cool things.

Note at the start of last season Draft Buddy was split into two files – Cheatsheet Compiler (custom cheatsheet generator) and Draft Buddy (draft tracker). Partway through last season I managed to combine them into one file, which is great, but some of our instructions and demo videos may be a little dated referencing each file separately. I am working to update them, but they can still be useful as much of the functionality in the combined file is similar.

If you need some help with something, post here in the blog, on Facebook or Twitter, or shoot me an email. Thanks!

  • Jose Abreu Tests Positive For COVID-19 Show More

Chicago White Sox first baseman and 2020 American League MVP Jose Abreu has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be away from the team for the next several days. General manager Rick Hahn said that Abreu is "completely asymptomatic" and "frustrated." The 34-year-old slugger is in his eighth season with the White Sox and is expected to be the centerpiece of the team's powerful lineup after he hit .317 with 19 home runs and led the major leagues with 60 RBI in the shortened 2020 season. The three-time All-Star had some mild symptoms last month but should be just fine. Fantasy managers should expect Abreu to be ready for Opening Day. His current 36 ADP shows that the fantasy community isn't expecting another MVP-caliber season in his age-34 season.

  • Cody Bellinger Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day Show More

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger (shoulder) is expected to be ready for Opening Day, according to manager Dave Roberts. Bellinger underwent shoulder surgery in November after injuring it in the final game of the World Series, but it wasn't expected to limit him at all entering the 2021 season. After winning the National League MVP in 2019 when he hit .305/.406/.629 with a career-high 47 home runs, 115 RBI and 15 stolen bases, Bellinger failed to replicate those lofty numbers when he hit just .239/.333/.455 with 12 homers, 30 RBI and six steals in 56 games over the shortened 2020 season. Despite the down season, the left-handed slugger only saw slight regression in his strikeout and walk rates, so he could easily bounce back this year. Draft him as a strong No. 1 fantasy outfielder with a high floor in the second round.

  • Spencer Torkelson Impresses In Batting Practice Show More

Detroit Tigers first baseman/third baseman Spencer Torkelson, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, put on a show in batting practice at spring training on Monday during the team's first full-squad workout. Torkelson will get his first look at live pitching on Tuesday, and he could see quite a few at-bats when spring training games actually begin with Jonathan Schoop, Renato Nunez, Isaac Paredes, Victor Reyes, Nomar Mazara and Aderlin Rodriguez unlikely to be cleared to join camp until at least the weekend. Torkelson will work exclusively at third base in camp, unless the Tigers need an emergency first baseman. The 21-year-old slugger is a consensus top-10 overall prospect entering the 2021 season and is a must-own in dynasty/keeper leagues for his plus-plus power and hitting skills.

  • Brewers In The Mix For Jackie Bradley Jr. Show More

The Milwaukee Brewers are one of about half a dozen other teams that seem to be considering free-agent outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Bradley is reportedly seeking a contract of more than four years and $50 million. Bradley is now 31 years old and is not going to develop the power/speed many foretold when he was younger. With that being said, his defense is elite and should keep him in contention for playing time. If the Brewers were to land Bradley, he'd likely be a platoon/bench player and likely wouldn't be relevant in terms of fantasy production.

  • Jarred Kelenic To Start The Year In Minors Show More

Seattle Mariners president and CEO Kevin Mather said that outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic will start the 2021 season in the minor leagues after Kelenic and his representation rejected the team's six-year contract extension offer with options. "We would like him to get a few more at-bats in the minor leagues, probably Triple-A Tacoma for a month. Then he will likely be in left field at T-Mobile Park for the next six or seven years, and then he'll be a free agent," Mather said. The No. 4 prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, was frustrated that he wasn't called up last season after he hit .291/.364/.540 at High-A and Double-A in 2019 in 117 games while hitting 23 home runs and driving in 68 runs. While Seattle will hold him back a little longer to manipulate his service time, Kelenic should be a starting outfielder for the M's for the majority of the 2021 season.

Buddy Take I recently added Kelenic as my fifth OF at pick 221 in a 10-team, best ball points league. That is right about bang on his NFBC ADP.
