Zeile from FantasyPros 2016 Fantasy Baseball Projections

February 11, 2016 By Draft Buddy Leave a Comment

1991rookies-zeileWe announced adding the Steamer-Fangraphs projections to the website earlier this week, updating numerous features including Last Player Picked. Today we added another set of projections, the Zeile consensus expert projections from FantasyPros.

Going by memory and for what it is worth, these projections are named after former St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Todd Zeile. Technically former Card and then 10 different teams in the final 10 of his 16 MLB seasons. We have a Shane Zeile in our database, apparently nephew of Todd per Wikipedia.

With the addition of the Zeile projections, not only do you have another option for LPP, but our player comparison tool has a little more to, well, compare. Say you wanted to look at Bryce Harper vs. Mike Trout for the upcoming season.

Thanks to Dave Kim over at FantasyPros for letting us use the Zeile projections and Average Draft Position data that will find its way into Draft Buddy.

Steamer-Fangraphs 2016 Fantasy Baseball Projections

February 9, 2016 By Draft Buddy Leave a Comment

Attention fantasy baseball fans, the first cut of 2016 projections from Steamer and Fangraphs are now available. Thanks very much to Jared Cross, the man behind the Steamer projections, and Fangraphs for incorporating their playing time adjustments.

The projections update quite a few of our online features in one fell swoop, including team-by-team projections, player pages, player vs. player comparison tool and the dollar value calculator (roto and fantasy points versions), Last Player Picked.

This helps us get closer to releasing the 2016 fantasy baseball version of Draft Buddy. I am targeting end of this week but sorry, no promises! Doing my best here. If you aren’t already signed up as a baseball member (for free) on our website then make sure to do that and we will send an email to all members when it is ready for download.

Props to member Kevin Baker for helping update our MLB team depth charts. That is another piece of the puzzle for a new season of Draft Buddy. Thanks Kevin! Online cheatsheet rankings will get updated after Draft Buddy is released.

Once all of our baseball features are ready for this season, then hopefully I can pull down the front page Under Construction image, too. Lots to do still so clearly it is time for me to get back to work!

It’s Alive! Fantasy Baseball Draft Buddy 1.0 Now Available

February 5, 2015 By Draft Buddy Leave a Comment

The first version of Draft Buddy for the 2015 fantasy baseball season is now available for download!

We are having some slight technical difficulties this morning with the website. Namely, we changed servers (yay), but that buggered our member login software (boo).

I didn’t want to be deterred however, so the file is now available for open download. You do not need to register or login to access it. Maybe come back later and make it official? It helps me track numbers so I know how many people are using it, and then at that time you can use our help desk integrated with the member software for tech support.

Right now Draft Buddy is the same as last season. It includes two sets of projections, one from Steamer-Fangraphs and the Zeile projections from FantasyPros. It includes player stats from the 2012 to 2014 seasons, plus 2014 post-All-Star Game stats. You can set up roto or fantasy points scoring leagues, choose a wide variety of stat categories plus position options. It tracks your drafts and does all sorts of cool things.

Note at the start of last season Draft Buddy was split into two files – Cheatsheet Compiler (custom cheatsheet generator) and Draft Buddy (draft tracker). Partway through last season I managed to combine them into one file, which is great, but some of our instructions and demo videos may be a little dated referencing each file separately. I am working to update them, but they can still be useful as much of the functionality in the combined file is similar.

If you need some help with something, post here in the blog, on Facebook or Twitter, or shoot me an email. Thanks!

  • Mets Fire General Manager Jared Porter Show More

New York Mets general manager Jared Porter was fired on Tuesday morning after ESPN reported details that he sent unsolicited texts and inappropriate photos to a female reporter in 2016. Mets owner Steve Cohen announced the termination on Twitter. Porter's tenure as GM lasted just 37 days. The Mets will now look to fill the position in advance of spring training. Given the fact that the Mets just concluded a GM search last month, they should be able to move quickly to fill the vacancy with, perhaps, one of the other candidates they recently vetted. Notably, former Cubs and Red Sox GM Theo Epstein could also be a potential candidate for this go-around.

  • Sonny Gray, Luis Castillo Unlikely To Be Traded? Show More

The possibility of Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Sonny Graybeing traded might be fading. This comes after general manager Nick Krall squashed rumors of a supposed trade that would have sent right-hander Luis Castillo to the Yankees on Sunday. The Reds asked the Yankees for shortstop Gleyber Torres, but that request was turned down. Cincy is telling other teams that they now intend to keep Castillo. The 31-year-old Gray is owed $20 million over the next two seasons and has a $12 million team option for the 2023 season. Gray had a 3.07 ERA with a 10.8 K/9 the last two years for Cincinnati. The right-hander could still be traded in an offseason that has featured a busy starting pitcher trade market. Gray could be an even more attractive No. 2 starting pitcher in fantasy leagues if he lands in a more favorable position.

  • George Springer Could Find A Team This Week Show More

Free-agent outfielder George Springer could make his decision on a team this week, according to multiple industry sources. The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets remain the two front-runners, with both teams offering nine figures. The only things stopping the Mets pursuit of Springer may be their desire not to exceed the competitive balance tax threshold and the possibility of having no designated hitter in the National League in 2021. New York could pitch Springer on a stretched contract similar to the one the Yankees gave second baseman DJ LeMahieu (six years, $90 million). The Blue Jays could have the edge with far more room to operate under the tax threshold. Springer's fantasy value shouldn't change all that much in either spot, although Toronto's hitting environment would be a bit more beneficial. Either way, he's coming off the board in the top five rounds as a top-15 fantasy outfielder.

  • Padres Acquiring Joe Musgrove Show More

The San Diego Padres are in agreement on a deal to acquire right-hander Joe Musgrove from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-team deal on Monday, according to sources. The trade is pending medical reviews. Hudson Head, a well-regarded center field prospect, is expected to be among a group of prospects heading back to Pittsburgh. Musgrove joins Blake Snell and Yu Darvish as the third starter acquired by the Friars this offseason. The 28-year-old was 1-5 with a 3.86 ERA in eight starts for the Pirates in the shortened 2020 season. The Opening Day starter last year will make $4.45 million in 2021 after avoiding arbitration. Musgrove is 29-38 with a 4.33 ERA in 108 major league appearances (83 starts) over five seasons. He played high school baseball in San Diego and has breakout potential in a pitcher's park and for a strong San Diego team.

  • Joey Lucchesi Traded To Mets Show More

The New York Mets are acquiring left-hander Joey Lucchesi from the San Diego Padres on Monday in a three-team deal, according to multiple reports. The Mets are sending catching prospect Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates, according to a source. Lucchesi is likely to compete for a spot at the back end of the Mets starting rotation behind two-time National League Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, Carlos Carrasco, Marcus Stroman and David Peterson. Noah Syndergaard (elbow) is expected to return from Tommy John surgery sometime after May. The 27-year-old Lucchesi made 56 starts for the Padres in 2018 and 2019 but struggled in limited action in 2020, going 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA in two starts and a relief outing. Lucchesi will need to get an opportunity to start in New York for him to have fantasy value in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
