  • Matt Ryan Won't Play This Weekend

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan won't play in the team's second preseason game against the Detroit Lions on Saturday. Along with Ryan, head coach Frank Reich said most of the starters won't play. Nick Foles will likely play around a quarter, followed by Sam Ehlinger and Jack Coan. Ryan has mostly looked good in training camp heading into his first season with the Colts, but the 37-year-old shouldn't be relied on as a QB1 in fantasy football. The Colts will likely remain a run-first team with running back Jonathan Taylor at their disposal. Ryan should be better than he was in his final year with the Atlanta Falcons, though, behind a much better offensive line. He should be a solid fantasy backup in 2022.

  • Matt Ryan To Play First Quarter Of Preseason Opener

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich said that quarterback Matt Ryan will play the first quarter of the team's preseason opener on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills. A lot of NFL teams are resting their starters in the first week of preseason action, but the Colts want to see Ryan operate the offense heading into his first season with the team. The 37-year-old has been impressive and decisive so far in training camp practices, and he should be an upgrade over what Carson Wentz gave them in 2021. It's good news for all of the Colts offensive weapons, perhaps most notably running back Nyheim Hines, who the Colts want to get more involved in the short passing game. The Colts will remain a run-first squad with running back Jonathan Taylor around, but Ryan should be a steady QB2 presence for fantasy managers.

  • Matt Ryan Starting On Saturday

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan will start during Saturday's preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills. The veteran, who was traded by the Atlanta Falcons in March, could see up to a quarter of action, according to head coach Frank Reich, giving him more than enough upside in DFS formats. It will also offer fantasy managers a glimpse at how Ryan captains the Colts' offense.

  • Matt Pryor, Bernhard Raimann Battling For Left Tackle Job

Indianapolis Colts offensive tackles Matt Pryor and Bernhard Raimann are battling for the starting left tackle job this summer after the team moved on from veteran Eric Fisher. Neither player is an ideal candidate for the left tackle spot, as Pryor has never been a full-time left tackle and Raimann is a rookie. Pryor is getting the first-team repetitions and has held up fine, while Raimann is off to a slow start in training camp. Pror isn't as agile as Raimann, but at 6-foot-7, 332 pounds, he has power. The offensive line has been a strength of the Colts in recent years, but the left tackle spot could be an issue for this offense and quarterback Matt Ryan.

  • Matt Ryan, Parris Campbell Showing Strong Connection

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Parris Campbell have shown a strong connection early in training camp practices after they spent plenty of time together away from the team's facilities in the offseason. "When I'm lined up in the slot running those crossers, that's Matt's bread and butter," Campbell said. The 25-year-old has caught 17 of his 19 targets between the numbers on short and intermediate routes for 149 yards in his three NFL seasons. Campbell has been working with the starting offense in two-receiver sets early on as well over rookie Alec Pierce. The early returns look good, but Campbell has only played in 15 games in three seasons due to injuries. Fantasy managers will want to see Campbell produce and stay healthy in the regular season before they add him to their rosters in most leagues.

  • Matt Ryan Praises Jonathan Taylor

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was praised by his new quarterback as the two started to build a connection in training camp. Matt Ryan, who was acquired in a trade this offseason to replace Carson Wentz, described the reigning rushing leader as "special" and "unique." The veteran went on to mention Taylor's "power, speed, and ability to cut." The 23-year-old is heading into his third season after finishing as the overall RB1 in fantasy points in 2021. Now, with an improved quarterback situation and one of the better offensive lines in the league, Taylor is primed to be an elite fantasy asset once again. He is well worth the No. 1 pick in fantasy drafts.

  • Matt Ryan Pushing The Pace At Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has followed through on his vow to raise the intensity of training camp in his first summer with the Colts, and he's done it by demanding a greater tempo between snaps. "It's unbelievable," head coach Frank Reich said. "We've never practiced that fast. It's a mentality. It's a confidence. He told me at the start, 'I'm gonna push the tempo.' And I said, 'We'll follow your lead. Go.'" After a one-year experiment with Carson Wentz, the Colts scrapped it in favor of the veteran Ryan, who has looked really impressive in the early going in training camp. The 37-year-old may not be an every-week QB1 in fantasy in a run-first offense, but he should be more decisive and efficient than Wentz was last year, which is great news for all of the team's offensive skill players.

  • Matt Ryan Nearly Flawless Wednesday

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan was nearly flawless in 11-on-11 work in training camp practice on Wednesday, and he went 7-for-8 in full-team work while completing passes to Michael Pittman Jr., Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, Alec Pierce and Mo Alie-Cox. The timing of the Colts passing game was impressive, and Ryan will bring more decisiveness to the QB position. A lot of folks are writing the 37-year-old veteran off after a forgettable 2021 season in his final year in Atlanta. Although the Colts should remain a run-first offense, Ryan now has one of the best running backs in the game and a much better offensive line. His ceiling isn't as high as the elite names at the position because he can't run the ball, but Ryan should at least be a very serviceable fantasy backup.

  • Michael Pittman Jr. May Thrive With Matt Ryan

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. had a breakout season in 2021, finishing with 88 catches for 1,082 yards and six touchdowns. While those numbers are impressive, some believe the wideout will have an even finer year now that Matt Ryan is on the roster, with an NFL scout stating, "there's no question in my mind that a better quarterback is going to get Pittman the ball more often." Although a lot of the playbook is designed to keep Jonathan Taylor involved, Pittman still has an excellent chance to be a more productive fantasy option with Ryan under center throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

  • Michael Pittman Jr. A Fan Of Matt Ryan

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who finished last year 18th in the NFL in receiving yards and 18th in catches, is a huge fan of new quarterback Matt Ryan. Pittman has been very impressed with the ball placement of Ryan, and the new signal-caller should help Pittman achieve his 2022 goal of proving that he's a true No. 1 receiver in the league. "Working on route discipline," Pittman said of his main area for improvement. "Sometimes you just go out there and start playing football. Yes, I can make plays like that but you want to stay on QB timing because it helps everybody else flow so I'm really working on that." The 24-year-old third-year wideout is being ranked as a low-end WR1/high-end WR2 heading into fall fantasy drafts, and he should see an uptick in production if he continues to gain chemistry with Ryan in training camp.

  • Matt Ryan Continues To Make A Positive Impression

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has made a favorable impression on his new teammates since being acquired from the Falcons this offseason. While the veteran certainly has a lot of positive attributes, his leadership ability has made him stand out the most, which was missing when Carson Wentz was under center last season. The 37-year-old finished 2021-22 by throwing for 3,968 yards, failing to amass at least 4,000 yards in a season since 2010. However, with a change of scenery and confidence from his squadmates, Ryan has an excellent opportunity to turn things around, especially with the amount of talent on the offensive end in Indy. He likely won't be in the league much longer. But managers shouldn't look past him when searching for a fantasy backup. He is also a solid option for those in Superflex formats.

  • Matt Ryan Continues To Receive Praise From Teammates

Indianapolis Colts Matt Ryan has been consistently receiving praise from coaches and teammates since the team began offseason workouts. Tight end Mo-Alie Cox stated, "With Matt, the ball is out. You come out of your break and you better be ready cuz it's not a slow, turn your head (and wait) ... like you turn your head and the ball is gonna be on point." Alie-Cox also referenced Ryan's leadership and ability to command the offense, suggesting it reminded him of former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. Even at age 37, Ryan could provide a substantial upgrade to his predecessor, Carson Wentz. Ryan was only the QB19 last year (Wentz was QB13), but the weapons and protection are much better in Indianapolis than in Atlanta. While Ryan himself is unlikely to have tremendous fantasy value outside of 2QB and Best Ball formats, he gives the skill position players intriguing upside, led by third-year wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

  • Matt Ryan Impressing At OTAs

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has been off to a hot start in his first on-field workouts with his new team. Frank Reich offered his praise regarding what he has seen from his starter the last few weeks: "I always knew he was a great passer, but his accuracy is insane. It's insane." It's only May, but for a veteran quarterback joining a playoff-caliber new team and system, it is certainly encouraging for his prospects moving forward. The 37-year-old Ryan has the skill set and pedigree to be a substantial improvement over last year's starter, Carson Wentz. This could offer a boost for the other weapons on the team, including wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and rookie Alec Pierce, as well as tight end Mo Alie-Cox. All-world running back Jonathan Taylor should produce regardless of who is behind center but increased scoring opportunities and sustained drives can only help him repeat his elite performance as well.
