Philip Rivers Announces Retirement
Long-time San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers announced his retirement from football on Wednesday. Rivers went to the Chargers in a draft-day trade in 2004 and played for the Bolts for 16 seasons before spending his 17th and final NFL season with the Colts. He played in 244 games, starting the final 240 without missing a game, the second-longest streak by an NFL QB behind Brett Favre's 297. The 39-year-old finishes his career ranked fifth all-time with 63,440 passing yards and 421 touchdown passes. "I can sit here and say, 'I can still throw it. I love to play,'" Rivers said. "But that's always going to be there. I'm excited to go coach high school football." The future Hall of Famer topped 4,000 passing yards for the eighth straight season in 2020 and 12th time in his career.

Colts GM Thinks Philip Rivers Can Still Play
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard thinks that impending free-agent quarterback Philip Rivers can still play in the NFL, but the team must decide if bringing the 39-year-old back for another season is the right course for the franchise. If Rivers does decide to come back for another year, he only wants to play for the Colts. Head coach Frank Reich also recently said that he thinks Rivers can continue his career and would love to have him back in 2021. Rivers rebounded from a rough season in his final year with the Chargers, but it remains to be seen if the Colts want an upgrade. The eight-time Pro Bowler threw for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2020 and would merely be a middling QB2 in a run-first offense if he were to return for an 18th NFL season in 2021.

Frank Reich Wants Philip Rivers Back In 2021
Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich wants quarterback Philip Rivers to be the team's starting quarterback in 2021. "As I sit here right now, yes, I want Philip Rivers to be my starting quarterback next year," Reich said. "... I think Philip still has a lot of good football (left)." The 39-year-old is set to be a free agent this offseason after bouncing back for 4,169 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his first season with Indy. Rivers had the third-best completion percentage (68) of his career and led the Colts to the playoffs for just the second time since 2014. Rivers still isn't guaranteed to continue his playing career next year or return to the Colts, but the veteran gunslinger surprised some folks with his play after struggling in his last year with the Chargers. If Rivers comes back in 2021, he'll be more of a QB in his 18th NFL season.

Philip Rivers Throws For 309 Yards, Two Touchdowns
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in a first-round playoff loss against the Bills on Saturday. Rivers' season is now over, but this marked his first 300-yard passing game since Week 10. He showed that he is still a capable quarterback throughout the season, but he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. There is speculation around the NFL that he will not return to Indianapolis. This would mean Rivers would wind up with another organization or call it quits on what has been a spectacular career. If he does return for another season in 2021, the veteran gunslinger would be a QB2 in single-year leagues.

Philip Rivers Not A Great Option Against Bills
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers is set to take on the Bills Defense on wild-card weekend. Rivers has just 14 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a passer rating of 84.2 in 11 career playoff games. The Bills defense has been solid against the pass this season, grabbing 15 interceptions and allowing a passer rating of just 86.9. He has posted his worst numbers outdoors this season, tallying just four touchdowns in five games. Rivers had a decent season, but there are better quarterback options this week for DFS lineups.

Philip Rivers Has Lackluster Performance
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers had a disappointing performance to end the regular season. He threw for a season-low 164 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Rivers ends his 2020 campaign with just 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. While he proved he is still capable on a lot of Sundays, Rivers has limitations at 38 years old. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and there is speculation that the Colts will not resign him. His season is not over yet as he will travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills in the first round of the playoffs.

Philip Rivers Set To Play In Season Finale
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers (toe) does not carry an injury designation heading into the regular season finale against the Jaguars. Rivers had been playing well until a subpar performance last week against the Steelers. However, he will have a good chance to bounce back this week. The Jaguars pass defense has struggled all season, allowing 33 passing touchdowns and a passer rating of 107.1 to opposing quarterbacks. Rivers did not have a great performance against the Jaguars back in Week 1, but it is reasonable to expect a better outing this week. He should be a solid QB2 option in Week 17.

Philip Rivers Has Two Turnovers In Loss
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers was off to a good start against the Steelers but struggled in the second half en route to a loss. He threw for 270 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also fumbled for the first time since Week 2. Today's game marks the first time Rivers had a turnover since Week 12, and it was also the first time since Week 11 where he failed to throw for multiple touchdowns. Rivers will need to have a better performance next week if he wants to help the Colts clinch a playoff berth. He will have a good opportunity to do so against the Jaguars.

Philip Rivers Has Tough Matchup Versus Steelers
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has been playing well lately but faces a tough Steelers Defense in Week 16. Rivers has 11 touchdowns to just two interceptions over his last five games. However, the Steelers defense has been very good against the pass this season and the best in the league in regards to passer rating. Opposing quarterbacks are passing at a rate of 74.9. The Steelers also lead the league in interceptions with 17 and are tied for the most sacks with 47. This will be one of Rivers' most difficult tests of the season, so he is likely just a low-end QB2 this week.

Philip Rivers Not Practicing Wednesday
Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich said that quarterback Philip Rivers (toe) will not practice on Wednesday, which has been the case every week since he injured his toe. Rivers hasn't missed any game action, though, and has been much better as a fantasy passer in recent weeks than he was to begin the 2020 season. However, the 39-year-old gunslinger has faced pretty easy matchups in the last three weeks -- the Texans twice and a fading Raiders squad -- so he'll be more of a midrange/low-end QB2 in Week 16 against a Steelers team trying to avoid their fourth straight loss after being the NFL's final unbeaten team. Pittsburgh's defense has lost some of their luster due to key injuries to their linebacking corps, but they should still make things difficult on Rivers.

Philip Rivers Throws Two Touchdowns
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers had an efficient day in a 27-20 win against the Texans. He completed 78 percent of his passes, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Rivers now has five straight games with multiple touchdown passes and three straight games without an interception. His consistency over the last couple months has made him a solid QB2 option, but he continues to lack QB1 value. Next week will be one of the toughest matchups he has had in a while against a good Steelers Defense.

Philip Rivers Looks To Stay Consistent
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has been playing well over the last month and will look to keep that form against a poor Texans Defense. The Texans defense has been mostly bad all season and was picked apart last week against Mitchell Trubisky. Rivers has multiple passing touchdowns in each of his last four games and has posted a passer rating over 105 in four of his last five contests. He played well against the Texans in Week 13, completing 77 percent of his passes, throwing for 285 yards and two touchdowns. Rivers has nine touchdowns to just two interceptions over the last four games, and the Texans defense has just three interceptions all season. Look for Rivers to be a solid QB2 option in Week 15.

Philip Rivers Throws For 244 Yards
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers had 19 completions for 244 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-27 win against the Chargers. This marks Rivers' fourth straight game with at least two touchdown passes, and he has a passer rating over 100 in four of his last five games. His 28 passing attempts was his lowest amount of attempts since Week 3, but he was still able to put up decent stats. He has a divisional matchup next week against a Texans Defense that surrendered 285 yards and two touchdowns to him in their Week 13 contest. It looks like he will be a decent QB2 option again next week.
Dec 13 · Source via
Philip Rivers Has Decent Matchup Versus Raiders
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers has a decent Week 14 matchup against the Raiders. The Raiders defense has allowed 20 touchdown passes, the ninth-most passing yards, and a passer rating of 89.6 on the season. Rivers has played well over his last four games with at least 285 passing yards in each contest and averaging two touchdowns per game during that span. However, Rivers has not put up the best stats against the Raiders over his career. In 28 career games, he is averaging 21 completions for 254 passing yards and 1.7 touchdowns per game. He is likely a bottom-tier QB2 this week.

Philip Rivers Tosses Two Touchdowns In Win
Indianapolis Colts quarterback had a strong performance in a 26-20 win against the Texans. He threw for 285 yards, two touchdowns, and posted a passer rating of 119.3. His passer rating in today's game was his highest since Week 8 and the third time in four games he has posted a passer rating over 100. Rivers is averaging two touchdowns per game over the last month and has limited the turnovers to just two interceptions. He continues to prove that he is a viable QB2 option and will look to build on this performance next week against a poor Raiders defense.

Philip Rivers Will Likely Need Offseason Surgery
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers (toe) is expected to play through his injury in Week 13- and for the remainder of the season- though it's serious enough that the veteran signal-caller will require offseason surgery. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport described the injury as a more serious version of turf toe, as it's officially a rupture of a plantar plate in Rivers' toe. The former Chargers' quarterback was never known for his blazing speed and has toughed out injuries before, so it's not expected to affect his play too much. However, it does make playing him a bit more risky, especially in DFS formats.
