Marvin Mims Jr. A Boom-Or-Bust Dice Roll

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is known for his big-play abilities deep down the field, and he's already provided several exciting plays in the first three games of his NFL career. Mims was quiet in his NFL debut (two catches for nine yards), but he caught two passes for 113 yards and his first TD in Week 2. He followed that up with 73 receiving yards in Week 3 and also returned a kickoff for a touchdown. The big-play ability is enticing, especially if Russell Wilson continues to turn back the clock at QB, but Mims hasn't had more than three catches in a game or played more than 27% of the snaps so far. The 21-year-old second-rounder has a great matchup on tap in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears and their generous defense. But Mims needs to get on the field more often to be anything more than a boom-or-bust dice roll as a flex option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Marvin Mims Jr. Shows Off Big-Play Abilities Again

The Denver Broncos were embarrassed on Sunday in a record-breaking 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, but rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. was a bright spot for the second straight week thanks to his big-play ability. Mims caught three of his five targets for 73 yards on offense and also returned two kickoffs for 121 yards and a touchdown. The 21-year-old had one carry for a three-yard gain. His kickoff return for a TD probably didn't count in most fantasy leagues, but it's just another reminder that this young pass-catcher has the ability to make noise in deep fantasy leagues in 2023 because of his big-play abilities. Mims is worth a pickup off the waiver wire if you need an explosive playmaker in a flex spot. His role in the offense so far has left a lot to be desired, but that could change in a hurry if he continues to deliver on his limited opportunities deep down the field.

Marvin Mims Jr. Won't Necessarily Have Bigger Role

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. had 113 receiving yards and a touchdown by the second quarter of the Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders, but he was not targeted after the second of his deep receptions and he only ran three routes in the second half and finished the game with 16 offensive snaps. "Some of it's coverage driven, and some of it is just based on what (personnel) we're in," head coach Sean Payton said as he attempted to explain why Mims was not featured again in the passing game after the midway point of the second quarter. Denver has played their rookies for 116 total snaps on offense, defense and special teams through two games, which is the fourth-fewest in the league. Mims has big-play potential, but his usage on offense won't immediately increase heading into Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins after his big game in Week 2.

Marvin Mims Jr. Looking For Encore

Nobody expected Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. to do anything in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders with Jerry Jeudy returning from a hamstring injury after the rookie had just two catches for nine yards in the season opener. But lo and behold, Mims caught both of his targets last Sunday for 113 yards and his first NFL touchdown as quarterback Russell Wilson got the deep passing game going. The 21-year-old showed off his big-play ability, but the bad news was that he was targeted only two times for the second straight week and played just 24% of the offensive snaps. Mims could connect with Wilson occasionally deep down the field this year, but as long as Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy are healthy, he's most likely to be an untrustworthy boom/bust in fantasy.

Marvin Mims Jr. - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is a stash in dynasty/keeper leagues, but he has no business being rostered in 12-team redraft leagues after his two-catch performance in the team's Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in a game where Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) wasn't even active. Mims caught both of his targets but gained just nine yards and played just 27 percent of the offensive snaps, which ranked fourth among the team's wideouts behind Courtland Sutton, Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Brandon Johnson. It appears that the 21-year-old is still being eased into the offense as he adapts to the speed of the NFL. And with Jeudy potentially making his 2023 debut in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders' tough defense, Mims figures to have a small role yet again.

Marvin Mims Jr. Gets Off To Slow Start

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. didn't have the type of NFL debut he was hoping for in the 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, especially when you consider that teammate Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) didn't even play and tight end Greg Dulcich (leg) was injured early and never returned. Mims finished the Week 1 contest with just two receptions (two targets) for nine yards. It didn't help that quarterback Russell Wilson spread the ball around to 10 different receivers and struggled with the deep ball. There's plenty of time for the 21-year-old to improve, but it will get harder in the short term once Jeudy is able to return to the starting lineup, potentially in Week 2 in a tough matchup against the Washington Commanders at home.

Marvin Mims Jr. Could Have Big Role In Season Opener

With Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) up in the air to play in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, rookie second-rounder Marvin Mims Jr. could begin his NFL career in a big role next to Courtland Sutton. The 21-year-old had 54 catches for 1,083 yards and 20.1 yards per catch in his final season at Oklahoma in 2022. The Broncos could rely more on their ground game to kick off the season against the Raiders, especially if Jeudy is out, but Mims could still be peppered with targets from quarterback Russell Wilson against a secondary that can be beaten. It's always tough to rely on rookie receivers early on, but Mims has an opportunity to pay off for fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for an upside WR4/flex option in Week 1.

Marvin Mims Jr. Could Have Big Role To Open The Season

When the Denver Broncos took speedy wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. in this year's draft out of Oklahoma, it felt like more of a luxury pick. Suddenly, as the team prepares for Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Mims could have a big role with Tim Patrick (Achilles) already out for the year and Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) questionable. Mims can play inside or outside, has return ability and has a reputation as a smart player. However, speed is his calling card. The 21-year-old had injuries to both his hamstrings early in training camp, but he's healthy now and could have a big role this Sunday if Jeudy is limited or inactive. Mims is worthy of a late-round flier in leagues that haven't drafted yet, and he'll be a sleeper flex play in deeper leagues in Week 1 if Jeudy doesn't suit up.

Marvin Mims Jr. Catches Two Passes Against Rams

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. played in the preseason finale on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Rams and secured both of his targets for 51 yards in the 41-0 blowout win. He also saw one carry for a three-yard gain and returned a punt for 19 yards. Mims' second catch was initially ruled a 75-yard touchdown until it was brought back when replays revealed he was down by contact for a 50-yard gain. The 63rd overall pick in this year's draft has an opportunity to serve as a starter in three-wide sets immediately in his first year in the NFL with Tim Patrick (Achilles) out for a second straight season. Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) is also questionable for Week 1, so Mims could have a big role next to Courtland Sutton in his NFL debut. The 21-year-old could be a deep threat for quarterback Russell Wilson this year, but as long as both Sutton and Jeudy are healthy, he'll likely provide inconsistent fantasy production.

Broncos' Jerry Jeudy In Jeopardy Of Missing Regular-Season Time

The Broncos continue to experience persistent trouble keeping their wide receivers healthy. Weeks after another Tim Patrick season-ending injury, Jerry Jeudy is now in jeopardy of beginning the regular season on the inactive list. A hamstring injury required Jeudy to be transported off the Broncos’ practice field on a cart Thursday, and while 9News’ Mike […]

Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. (hamstring) suffered a minor hamstring injury during spring OTAs and had a setback during a workout just before training camp. However, the rookie pass-catcher returned to the practice field for the first time at camp on Monday. Tim Patrick (Achilles) suffered a non-contact injury on Monday, so Mims' return couldn't come at a better time. The Oklahoma product is expected to make an impact right away as a field stretcher for Russell Wilson's offense. If Patrick is out for an extended period of time, Mims should have an easier path to playing time immediately.

Marvin Mims Jr. Suffers Injury, Will Practice Soon

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury recently, but head coach Sean Payton said he will be full-go in a few days or a week. Mims was the first draft selection of the Payton era in Denver and adds an element of high-end speed to the Russell Wilson-led offense. The 21-year-old wideout averaged 20 yards per reception in each of his final two seasons at Oklahoma and could carve out a legitimate WR3 role as a rookie. He'll likely compete with Tim Patrick to play alongside Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton when he gets healthy and back on the field for training camp.

Offseason In Review: Denver Broncos

While last season marked the Broncos’ sixth straight sub-.500 campaign, it was easily the most memorable letdown for the franchise during its post-Super Bowl 50 swoon. Denver’s attempt to pair blockbuster trade acquisition Russell Wilson and first-time head coach Nathaniel Hackett backfired spectacularly, with the latter joining Urban Meyer (2021) and Pete McCulley (49ers, 1978) […]
