Quentin Johnston Makes Just One Catch In Week 4

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston made just one catch in a Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The rookie pass catcher was targeted three times, including once in the end zone, making one catch for 18 yards. With Mike Williams (knee) out for the season, Josh Palmer ended up taking more of his role instead of the rookie Johnston. That may remain the case after the Chargers bye week, but we'll see if they choose to change things around with the extra practice time.

Brandon Staley Confident In Quentin Johnston

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston has had a quiet first three games to begin his career. The TCU product was selected by the Chargers with the 21st pick of the 2023 NFL Draft but started the season behind Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Joshua Palmer on the depth chart. Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is confident Johnston can step up after the season-ending knee injury suffered by Williams in Week 3. "All he needs to continue to do is do what he's done ever since he's been here, which is to continue to make progress on the field," Staley said. "Over time, he's going to make more and more plays for us. We're really happy with him, and he's going to get to shine in a bigger way now." The 6'4" rookie will have a chance to put up fantasy-relevant numbers in the team's pass-happy offense led by Justin Herbert.

Mike Williams' injury sets the stage for rookie Quentin Johnston

Johnston, the Chargers' first-round pick, has played significantly less through Week 3 than the other rookie wide receivers taken in round one.
Sep 26 · ESPN Chargers Quentin Johnston Mike WilliamsQuentin Johnston's Role Could Be About To Grow

If Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams' knee injury causes him to miss significant time (potentially the rest of the season), first-round rookie receiver Quentin Johnston could be called upon much earlier than expected moving forward. Johnston played 27 percent of the offensive snaps in his NFL debut in Week 1 and just 15 percent of the snaps in the Week 2 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. In his first three games, he has just five receptions on eight targets for 26 yards, but his role will be increasing in three-wide sets if Williams misses extended time. Joshua Palmer should still be the priority waiver-wire addition in standard-sized fantasy leagues this week, but Johnston deserves some consideration as well in deeper leagues.

Joshua Palmer Scores A Touchdown Versus Minnesota

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer caught four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 3 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Palmer's score ultimately proved to be the game-winner. The third-year pro may be in line for more playing time if Mike Williams (knee) misses an extended amount of time, as is feared. The 25-year-old proved last season that he can put together strong fantasy football performances when given the chance. He is seemingly still ahead of rookie first-round pick Quentin Johnston on the Chargers' depth chart. If Williams' injury forces him to the sidelines, Palmer will be a popular waiver-wire addition this week.

Quentin Johnston Only Catches One Pass In Week 2

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston only made one catch in a 27-24 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. Johnston saw two targets, making the one catch for seven yards. The Chargers passing game spread the ball around to nine different targets, focusing on Keenan Allen and Mike Williams for eight catches each, not leaving much for any other pass catchers. Johnston has the talent to be a serious factor in the NFL, but fantasy managers will need to continue to be patient with him before they see consistent results.

Quentin Johnston - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston could see more action in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. In Week 1, Johnston was targeted three times, making two catches for just nine yards. The Chargers mostly relied on their running backs, but they'll likely need to throw more often against a weak Titans secondary. Johnston is still well behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams on the wide receiver depth chart, but he may have already passed Joshua Palmer. Johnston has huge upside, but patience will most likely be needed through these early weeks.

Quentin Johnston Set For His First Real NFL Action In Week 1

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston is set for his first regular season NFL action in a Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins. Johnston opens the season as the fourth wide receiver on the Chargers depth chart, behind Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Joshua Palmer, but it's hard to see him staying too far behind Palmer as the season goes on. For Week 1 at least, we can expect him to see at least a few targets, but real upside likely won't be reached until a later point in the season. He has some upside just based on his talent, but he's too risky to be more than a WR5 in Week 1.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston caught two more passes in the final Chargers preseason game, gaining 15 yards total. Johnston was targeted just twice in a game where the Chargers mostly kept the ball on the ground. Johnston's 15 yards receiving led the team and his two catches were just one behind the team lead. Johnston has looked solid in preseason play, and will open the season as a starter on three-wide sets, sharing the field with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Joshua Palmer Ahead Of Quentin Johnston On Depth Chart?

The Athletic's Daniel Popper writes that Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer has earned more first-team repetitions in three-receiver packages at training camp alongside Keenan Allen and Mike Williams than rookie first-rounder Quentin Johnston. Johnston is in the early stages of his development and has struggled with drops. His role early in his first NFL season will be geared toward specific concepts that will allow him to play fast. Meanwhile, Palmer has the full trust of quarterback Justin Herbert and the coaching staff and has been a regular playmaker in camp. Popper believes Palmer is the safer fantasy bet over Johnston, at least early in the 2023 season. Johnston's current ADP is right around 50, while Palmer's sits at 92.

Quentin Johnston Makes Three Catches On Sunday

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston was targeted three times in Sunday's preseason game and made all three catches, gaining 37 yards. It wasn't a great game for the Chargers passing offense in general, but Johnston still ended up tied for second on the team in catches and looked solid in the process. The rookie is expected to see lots of playing time alongside Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and should have significant fantasy value in his rookie season.

The first round pick was targeted six times, catching three passes for 10 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came from quarterback Easton Stick from eight yards out in the second quarter. Johnston will have a big role in the Chargers offense playing alongside Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

Offseason In Review: Los Angeles Chargers

Only the 1992 Oilers and 2013 Chiefs surpass the Chargers’ 27-point collapse in Jacksonville. While Sean Payton loomed as a potential HC candidate, GM Tom Telesco elected to give Brandon Staley a third season. The Bolts did overcome more major injury trouble to return to the postseason. The offseason buzz that annually follows the Chargers […]

Los Angeles Chargers third-year wide receiver Joshua Palmer and rookie first-rounder Quentin Johnston are competing for the No. 3 job behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, but both Palmer and Johnston could see ample playing time because of their varying skill sets. "We've certainly got four guys that are all starter guys in this league, and we'll play them in a lot of different ways," new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said. Palmer and Johnston have each had their share of standout plays in training camp so far. The 21-year-old Johnson has more immediate and long-term upside in fantasy because of his impressive physical attributes alone. Still, with limited volume as long as Allen and Williams stay healthy, Johnston will likely be an inconsistent WR4/flex in his rookie season as mostly a deep threat.

Chargers Rumors: Ekeler, Johnston, Salary Cap

Within a limited salary cap, as other positions begin to see an increase in the average value of their contracts, the space in the salary cap for those increases has to come from somewhere. As positions like quarterback and defensive tackle are reaching new highs, it seems that the value of running backs is slowly […]
