Jelani Woods, Josh Downs Dealing With Injuries

Indianapolis Colts tight end Jelani Woods (hamstring) and rookie wide receiver Josh Downs (knee) are dealing with injuries this week and didn't take part in organized team activities on Thursday, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Neither injury seems particularly serious, so both players should be just fine for training camp this summer. Woods caught 25 passes for 312 yards and three TDs in 15 games (two starts) in his rookie year in 2022, and he could be in line for more playing time alongside fellow tight ends Mo Alie-Cox and Kylen Granson. Downs was a third-rounder this year is likely to operate as receiver depth for the Colts in his rookie season and is unlikely to have much fantasy appeal in single-year leagues.

Josh Downs Impressing The Colts

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs has been receiving high praise from Colts wide receiver coach Reggie Wayne. "He's the player I think we were missing, A guy who's agile, who's versatile who can win on the option routes. I think he's the right fit for us," says Wayne. The expectation is that Downs is going to compete with Isaiah McKenzie for the starting slot role during camp. The Colts clearly think highly of Downs considering they selected him in the third round. That being said, Downs could end up being an impactful player on this offense from Day 1. The 21-year-old is worth a stash in dynasty leagues as he could very well find himself with a big role on this offense.

Downs is unlikely to be a difference-maker in fantasy in 2023 but he is on the radar as a solid stash in dynasty leagues.

Colts Add Depth At Receiver With Josh Downs

The Indianapolis Colts moved up to select wide receiver Josh Downs out of North Carolina with the No. 79 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night. After surprising some at No. 4 overall by drafting Anthony Richardson, the team decided to add a new weapon for their future signal-caller. They already boast a strong duo in Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce but lack depth beyond those two, creating an opportunity for Downs. He's a different style pass-catcher than Pittman and Pierce at five-foot-nine, 171 pounds, offering them more versatility and speed.
