Jaxon Smith-Njigba Still Looking For Breakout

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was targeted five times in Week 1 and six times in Week 2, but he is not yet threatening the workloads of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The 21-year-old has only been on the field for 58% of snaps and the targets he has seen are at an average depth of just 1.9 yards. In Week 3 against the Panthers, Smith-Njigba will line up against Jimmy Chinn or Troy Hill, who have managed most of the slot corner snaps for Carolina in the first two weeks of the season. Smith-Njigba is definitely worth holding but the only reason to start him in Week 3 is if Metcalf (ribs) is ruled out.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Gets Six Targets In Week 2

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught five of his six targets for 34 yards in Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions. The rookie had some extra time in two receiver sets with DK Metcalf missing most of the first half due to injury. When Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are both healthy, though, Smith-Njigba will be relegated to three receiver sets. That playing time opportunity will be reduced if Seattle continues to utilize two and three tight end sets to shore up their battered and inexperienced offensive line, as they did in Week 2. Smith-Njigba should remain on fantasy benches until he is played more frequently.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba made his regular-season debut against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 and caught three passes for 13 yards. The Seahawks' first selection from the 2023 NFL Draft saw as many targets (five) as veteran receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but he ran only 23 routes and his aDOT was just 1.2 yards. His limited usage may have been the result of returning from preseason wrist surgery performed on August 22, but it also was a symptom of the Rams' complete domination of the second half of their season opener. Smith-Njigba will face the Detroit Lions on the road in Week 2 and should remain on fantasy benches until Seattle gives their new receiver a more consistent role.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Gets Five Targets In NFL Debut

Rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba made his regular-season debut for the Seattle Seahawks in their Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The twentieth overall pick from the 2023 draft was less than three weeks removed from surgery to repair the broken wrist he suffered in a preseason game on August 19. Smith-Njigba wore a thick wrap over his left wrist on Sunday and was able to bring in three of his five targets for 13 receiving yards. With established veterans DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett working ahead of him, it will be hard to start Smith-Njigba until a better picture of how Seattle plans to spread the ball takes shape. The Seahawks visit the Detroit Lions in Week 2.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Won't Be Limited In Week 1

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) has practiced in full this week and wasn't listed on the final injury report heading into Week 1. The rookie wideout is less than a month removed from wrist surgery. Despite that, Smith-Njigba isn't going to have any limitations heading into the Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. However, Smith-Njigba has missed significant practice time, which could result in less usage to begin the season. He'll serve as the third option behind D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett heading into the season opener.

Offseason In Review: Seattle Seahawks

Life after Russell Wilson began for the Seahawks in 2022, a season in which very little was expected of the team. Rather than setting upon a long-term organizational reset, however, Seattle remained competitive in large part due to the surprising success Geno Smith found in his latest opportunity to serve as an NFL starter. The […]

Seattle Seahawks rookie first-round wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) is expected to suit up in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Smith-Njigba has already returned to the practice field after having surgery to fix a slight fracture in his left wrist on Aug. 24. The 21-year-old Ohio State product should be active for his first real NFL game this Sunday as the No. 3 wideout behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Until we know more about how Seattle plans to use Smith-Njigba coming off wrist surgery, though, fantasy managers should consider him a risky flex play as he competes for targets.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Practices Again Monday

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) was present for another practice on Monday. Smith-Njigba had surgery on Aug. 24 to fix a small fracture in his left wrist, but he's been able to practice of late and should be available for the team's Week 1 season opener against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend. The first-rounder will probably be limited on the team's official injury report on Wednesday, but as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he should be able to suit up on Sunday. How big of a role he has in his first NFL game remains uncertain, though, which will make him a pretty risky starting fantasy option to kick off the year while fighting for targets with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) returned to practice on Tuesday. Smith-Njigba suffered a slight fracture in his wrist during last week's preseason game and went for surgery to repair the issue. His ability to return to practice just a week later is a good sign as he was able to run routes and catch passes, even with a bulky wrap over his left wrist. At this rate, Smith-Njigba might be able to suit up for Seattle's Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, although it remains to be seen if he's ready for a full-time role.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Begin Season On Active Roster

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) is expected to begin the regular season on the active roster. Smith-Njigba recently underwent wrist surgery to repair a small broken bone in his wrist, but avoiding the Injured Reserve list is a good sign. His Week 1 availability against the Los Angeles Rams is still in question. Hopefully, missing one or two games is his worst-case scenario and he can make his NFL debut sooner than later. The rookie wideout could contend to be the top fantasy wideout in the 2023 draft class, but he'll have plenty of target competition in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba A Long Shot For Week 1?

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) has a three- to four-week timetable to recover from a slight fracture in his wrist that he suffered in last weekend's preseason game, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is saying it sounds like Smith-Njigba is a long shot to be ready for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Pete Carroll has a reputation for being overly optimistic with injuries, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the impressive rookie isn't ready to go for the start of the regular season. The 21-year-old first-round pass-catcher will be the team's No. 3 wideout behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett when healthy, making him an upside WR3/4 pick in upcoming fantasy drafts, despite the injury.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Could Miss Time

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) needs surgery to repair a "slight fracture" suffered during Saturday's preseason meeting with the Dallas Cowboys. There are reports the procedure had already taken place. However, it hasn't, with the rookie flying to Philadelphia on Tuesday to see a specialist. Although the team is optimistic Smith-Njiba will be ready for Week 1, head coach Pete Carroll indicated the wideout might miss "3-4 weeks." Smith-Njigba, the 2023 No. 20 overall selection, has played well throughout the preseason, totaling six catches for 83 yards to the tune of 13.8 YPC. While there could be good news surrounding the 21-year-old, nobody knows how things will look until he goes under the knife, which is expected to be in the coming days.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba To Have Wrist Surgery

Seattle Seahawks rookie first-round wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) is undergoing wrist surgery in Philadelphia on Tuesday, but he could still have a chance to be ready for the start of the regular season, according to sources. Surgery will determine how long he'll be out after he injured the wrist in Saturday night's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. The 21-year-old has impressed players and coaches alike in his first training camp this summer, leading many to believe he'll have a big first season in the NFL. This injury will make fantasy managers a bit more hesitant to reach on the rookie pass-catcher, but he's still worth considering as a WR3/4 in redraft leagues. If JSN does miss Week 1, Cade Johnson could jump in as the No. 3 wideout behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Has Been The Star Of Training Camp

Seattle Seahawks rookie first-round wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been the star of training camp so far while seemingly making a highlight-reel catch or two every day. "He looks like he's already been here for two, three years with the way he runs his routes and the way he's picked up the offense," fellow wideout DK Metcalf said. "Every day at practice, how he tracks balls and how he runs his routes, everything. I think he's going to be an exceptional player." Quarterback Geno Smith called him "a natural receiver." ESPN's Dan Graziano thinks the team has real plans for him and that he won't necessarily be brought along slowly. He also thinks Smith-Njigba is a legitimate sleeper for Offensive Rookie of the Year. All accounts of the 21-year-old have been glowing, which is inevitably going to raise his ADP in fantasy drafts considerably.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Continues To Impress

Seattle Seahawks first-round rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has had at least a highlight play or two in every training camp practice so far and has had some good battles with fellow first-round cornerback Devon Witherspoon. "He's really a gifted athlete," head coach Pete Carroll said, "Timing, hand-eye (coordination), body control, extraordinary natural quickness, and he makes things look really easy. I couldn't imagine him not being part of the mix right from the beginning. It just comes too easy for him. We're looking for the spots we can put him in, how to move him around, and see how much he can handle. There's nothing that's holding him back. He's hitting it off with Geno Smith really well right now." The 21-year-old is going to have an immediate role in 2023, but consistent targets on a weekly basis may be hard to come by while working behind both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Impressing Early In Camp

Seattle Seahawks first-round rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was taken 20th overall in this year's draft, was mostly a spectator in spring practices as he learned from afar. He missed all but 2 1/2 games last season at Ohio State due to a hamstring injury, and the Seahawks didn't want to rush him into the fold. Smith-Njigba was full-go for minicamp in June and showed his smooth, precise route-running. And the young wideout is already impressing in training camp. "He's so impressive," quarterback Geno Smith said. "Very smooth route-runner. Natural hands. Also, the game is not too big for him. You can see he's got that self-confidence that you look for." The 21-year-old has already apparently won the No. 3 job behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, which was expected to happen eventually.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Acts Like A Pro Already

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba brings sky-high expectations with him into the NFL, especially after his college teammates Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave had huge rookie campaigns. The No. 20 overall pick is apparently built to handle those expectations, according to fellow wideout DK Metcalf. "He acts like a pro already," Metcalf told FOX Sports. "He knows how to run routes already. He's a veteran when he steps on the field and just understands defenses and route-running so that the coaches don't really have to teach him anything. He can just go out there and play and be himself." Ohio State has become known for producing NFL-ready wide receivers, so Smith-Njigba could have legitimate WR2-3 value in his debut season -- even with the stiff target competition presented by Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
