Jalin Hyatt May Not Have Substantial Role

The Athletic's Dan Duggan writes that New York Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, who was taken in the third round (73rd overall) of this year's draft, may struggle to find a substantial role in the offense immediately due to the team's crowded receivers room and the need for him to develop his all-around skill set. However, the 21-year-old should be featured as a deep threat from Day 1. Hyatt will likely have sporadic production in his first NFL season, but he'll receive a huge boost if his big-play ability translates to the next level. Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins are the favorites to start on the outside for the Giants in 2023, so Hyatt will likely need an injury to one of them in order to see more consistent playing time.

Jalin Hyatt Signs Rookie Deal

New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt signed his four-year rookie deal that is worth $5.625 million on Monday. The Giants took Hyatt in the third round of this year's NFL draft. The 21-year-old speedster from the University of Tennessee injured his hamstring at the scouting combine, but he should be healthy enough to be available for training camp at the end of July. Hyatt has gained some weight recently and should challenge Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins for playing time on the outside immediately in 2023. Still, New York also has wideouts Parris Campbell, Sterling Shepard and Wan'Dale Robinson, so it could be tough for Hyatt to carve out consistent production for fantasy managers in Year 1 in the NFL.

Jalin Hyatt Looking To Beef Up

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt said he's around 180 pounds right now and would like to get to and play at around 190 pounds in his first season in the NFL in 2023. Hyatt also isn't worried that a little more weight will mean less speed. "Nah. That speed's gonna stay with me. I was born with it," Hyatt said. The Giants selected the 21-year-old pass-catcher in the third round of this year's draft to help beef up their receiving corps. Because of his high-end speed, Hyatt is expected to work mostly as a downfield threat to stretch opposing defenses out. Hyatt certainly has an opportunity in his first NFL season, but the G-Men also have Wan'Dale Robinson, Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton and Parris Campbell in the fold at receiver, so it's likely that Hyatt will be inconsistent in his production for fantasy managers in single-year leagues.

Giants Continue To Stockpile Receivers With Jalin Hyatt

The New York Giants selected wide receiver Jalin Hyatt out of Tennessee with the No. 73 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night. As a potential round-one selection, it's an excellent bargain for the G-Men, who continue to add depth to their receiving corps. Like many of the other pass-catchers in this draft class, Hyatt is smaller than the prototypical wideouts but finished with over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns in his final year. It's a crowded depth chart, but nothing is stopping him from establishing a meaningful role early in his career.

Jalin Hyatt, Matt Bergeron Could Go In First Round

Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, Michigan cornerback D.J. Turner and Syracuse offensive tackle Matt Bergeron are three players that could vault into the first round of Thursday night's NFL draft as surprises, according to NFL executives. Up to six cornerbacks could be taken in the first round, starting with Illinois' Devon Witherspoon and Oregon's Christian Gonzalez. Up to five receivers could sneak into the first round, including Boston College's Zay Flowers, Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba, TCU's Quentin Johnston and USC's Jordan Addison. It's also very possible that the first pass-catcher off the board on Thursday night is Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid.
