Chase Brown Could Have Big Role Early On

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown could leapfrog Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams for the No. 2 RB spot behind Joe Mixon eventually in 2023, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. The fifth-rounder from Illinois has impressed throughout training camp and the preseason, particularly with his pass-catching. It's not out of the question that Mixon will have to serve some sort of suspension this year despite being found not guilty on aggravated menacing charges, which would open up opportunities for all of the other Bengals RBs. The 23-year-old will have to keep impressing in the regular season. He's not draft-worthy in 12-team leagues going into the season, but he's certainly one to keep on your watch list in PPR setups.

Offseason In Review: Cincinnati Bengals

Following their run to the Super Bowl in 2021, it came as no surprise that the Bengals were once again a force in the AFC last year. A last-minute loss to the Chiefs in the conference title game ended their season but confirmed Cincinnati's status as one of the league's heavyweights. This offseason saw the […]

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown ran for 39 yards off 11 carries during the loss to the Washington Commanders on Saturday night. He added two catches for negative yardage. Chris Evans (undisclosed), who didn't suit up for this one, is rumored to see third-down work this season. However, it appears Brown should at least hold a spot on the depth chart heading into the Week 1 opener versus the Cleveland Browns. That said, unless Joe Mixon or Evans suffers an injury during the 2023-24 campaign, Brown won't see much action, although he's worth a stash in dynasty formats.

Chase Brown Draws Praise From Front Office

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown drew praise from director of player personnel Duke Tobin on Saturday. "He's developing before our eyes," Tobin said during an appearance on the Bengals' broadcast. The fifth-round pick is on track to open the season as Joe Mixon's backup thanks to his impressive results on the field, as well as injuries to Trayveon Williams (ankle) and Chris Evans (undisclosed). Fantasy managers should view him as a low-end RB4 and one of the position's most appealing handcuffs in 2023.

Chris Evans To Be Primary Third-Down Back?

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans has just 95 touches for 266 yards in two seasons since being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, it could be his time to contribute after the departure of Samaje Perine. Paul Dehner Jr. of the Athletic believes he will be the "starting passing-down back." Fellow running back Trayveon Williams (ankle) and rookie Chase Brown have been competing with Evans for the RB job behind Mixon, but it looks like Evans has the edge. If so, he will be one of the most valuable handcuff running backs in fantasy football as a part of a high-powered offense.

Chase Brown Finds The End Zone On Friday

Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown had nine carries for 18 yards and a touchdown during Friday's preseason tie with Atlanta. The 2023 fifth-round pick amassed just 2.0 YPC in this one. But he at least found the end zone, scoring on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter. The rookie has struggled on the ground this preseason. While Brown has shown promise as a pass-catcher, he'll need to do more to work his way up the depth chart. Until then, Trayveon Williams (ankle) and potentially Chris Evans are ahead in the pecking order.

Chase Brown Locking In On Receiving Skills

Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Chase Brown was a high-end pure rusher at the University of Illinois, but he caught just 58 passes in five collegiate seasons and knows he needs to improve in that area. "We're a pass-first offense. I have to make sure I'm locked in on pass protection. Being physical at the point of attack, Brown said. "And being a good pass catcher as well. There are a lot of plays to be made in that aspect. I'm locked in there." If Brown can perform as at least an average pass-catcher, he will have plenty of value as Joe Mixon's primary handcuff -- assuming he beats out Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans. Samaje Perine had a couple of spike weeks last season in the absence of Mixon in a high-powered offense, so Brown could follow suit in 2023.
