Roschon Johnson Expected To See His Role Gradually Increase

The Chicago Bears are shaking up their offense after an 0-3 start. One of the repercussions is that wide receiver Chase Claypool is a healthy scratch for the Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos. Rookie running back Roschon Johnson has impressed through the first three weeks of his NFL career, and the expectation is that he will gradually see an enhanced role alongside Khalil Herbert. Johnson has 17 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown and has added 10 catches for 56 yards. If he continues to look good, he could push Herbert for starter's reps down the road, making him one to pick up in fantasy leagues if he remains on your league's waiver wire.

Roschon Johnson Sees 10 Touches Against Chiefs

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson saw a bit more work than Khalil Herbert in the blowout loss to the Chiefs. The rookie received eight carries for 38 yards and caught both of his targets for 11 yards. His opportunities didn't lead to much production, but the offense as a whole wasn't moving the ball at all. He was, at least, on the efficient side as he averaged 4.8 yards per carry. Despite heading into a Week 4 matchup against the porous Broncos defense, it's hard to trust anyone on this offense until they prove they can move the ball down the field.

Roschon Johnson Tallies Only Six Touches Against Tampa Bay

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson carried the ball only four times for 32 yards in the team's loss to the Buccaneers in Week 2. Johnson ripped off a beautiful 29-yard run in the first half but the running game was abandoned in the second half. Starter Khalil Herbert also ran the ball hard but the Bears struggled to move the chains throughout the game. Johnson has shown glimpses of true talent through two games but is not fantasy viable until the Bears offense gets its act together.

Roschon Johnson - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson's arrow will be pointing up heading into the team's matchup against Tampa Bay. The rookie ran hard with the limited looks he got in Week 1 and even found the end zone for his first professional touchdown. He will face a stout Tampa Bay secondary in Week 2 but has earned more looks in a struggling Bears offense. He will most likely continue to play second fiddle to teammate Khalil Herbert but Johnson's stock is already rising this season.

Roschon Johnson Impresses In Debut

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson impressed in his NFL debut, picking up a his first rushing touchdown and leading the team with six receptions in the team's 38-14 loss to the Packers in Week 1. The rookie registered 55 total yards and ran with purpose during garbage time. Johnson certainly has earned a role in this offense but it may take a few weeks for him to become a reasonable fantasy option as his opportunities increase.

Roschon Johnson Could Have Limited Role In NFL Debut

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson will make his regular season NFL debut in Week 1 against the rival Packers. The rookie has impressed during preseason play and his potential certainly garners playing time. But the Bears backfield will be crowded to start the season, with teammates Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman ahead of him on the depth chart. Johnson has plenty of value in dynasty leagues but fantasy managers may need to wait a few weeks to see what kind of a role can be carved out for the first-year back before blindly throwing him into starting lineups. To stay on the cautious side, Johnson is not a wise fantasy choice for Week 1.

Roschon Johnson Could Quickly Become Bears' Best Back

Right now, Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert is the team's top RB. However, rookie Roschon Johnson could become the team's best back as early as Week 3 or 4, according to The Athletic's Adam Jahns. Johnson has been everything the team said he'd be after taking him in the fourth round this year, from his hard-nosed, downhill style to his pass-blocking. But there remain plenty of questions after he was the backup to Bijan Robinson at Texas. Jahns writes that it's tough to know when to draft any of Chicago's RBs, and quarterback Justin Fields' rushing abilities on designed runs and scrambles must be factored in. Herbert has the edge in fantasy value entering the year as an RB3/flex, but Johnson is a worthwhile handcuff and late-round dart throw as well.

Roschon Johnson Tallies 33 Total Yards Against Buffalo

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson carried the ball nine times for 22 yards and added an 11-yard reception in the team's final preseason game against the Bills. The rookie has taken the lion's share of the carries in the backfield during exhibition play and has flashed his potential at times. With Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman already in the mix, Johnson may struggle to see consistent touches early on in the season. But he is a fantasy option worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses as the rookie has shown an ability to break tackles and make some plays in the passing game during preseason.

Roschon Johnson Has Another Solid Performance In Preseason Loss

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson caught eyes once again in Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss against the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson did play behind D'Onta Foreman but has now outperformed him in two straight preseason games. He finished with seven carries for 32 yards and hauled in an 11-yard catch. Khalil Herbert sat out with the rest of the starters, making it clear that he is the team's RB1. While Foreman has been ahead of Johnson, the fourth-round rookie out of Texas is making a very strong push to become the team's No. 2 back as the season approaches.

D'Onta Foreman Gets The Start In Preseason Loss

Chicago Bears running back D'Onta Foreman played two drives in Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Foreman carried the ball three times for 12 yards and caught one pass for six yards. Foreman has served as the team's RB2 in each of the two preseason games played, but he may be losing some momentum to fourth-round rookie Roschon Johnson. Khalil Herbert is the clear RB1 on the team right now considering he is the only running back that sat out along with the rest of the starters. Foreman and Johnson will continue fighting to be the team's second running back as the season approaches.

Offseason In Review: Chicago Bears

Coming into this offseason with the most cap space, the Bears used it in different ways. In addition to outbidding competitors for Tremaine Edmunds, Chicago filled other needs at guard and defensive end. GM Ryan Poles‘ second draft also is set to include multiple Week 1 starters, but this offseason — and more after that […]

Chicago Bears running backs Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman have more experience, but ESPN's Courtney Cronin suggests rookie Roschon Johnson might have the most potential as a three-down back. Herbert and Foreman have split first-team repetitions during training camp, and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has experimented with using both backs as pass-catchers, a role neither has occupied much throughout their careers. The determining factor in who will become the No. 1 back this year likely will come down to pass protection, a skill that Herbert has focused on improving in the offseason. The 22-year-old Johnson is more of a pass-catcher than early down back, so if he's going to have fantasy value in his first NFL season, it's likely going to be as an RB4/5 in deep PPR leagues.

Roschon Johnson Dealing With Undisclosed Injury

Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson is reportedly dealing with an undisclosed injury at training camp. The former Texas ball carrier missed Monday's practice due to the unknown ailment. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus seemingly likes to keep injury information close to the vest, so fantasy managers will have to wait and see if an update on his status is provided soon. With Johnson out, Travis Homer and Trestan Ebner could see additional reps behind Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman at running back. Johnson could have fantasy value as a committee back in 2023 if he gets back to action in a timely manner.
