  • No Return Imminent For Cardinals' Kyler Murray

    Headshot for Joshua Dobbs

Players who began the 2023 season on the PUP list are eligible to be activated as early as Week 5. That will not be the case for the Cardinals as it pertains to their starting quarterback, however. Kyler Murray is not expected to resume practicing in the coming days, and his return is believed to […]

  • Jonathan Gannon Thinks Clayton Tune Is Ready

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Clayton Tune and Joshua Dobbs remain in a competition for the starting job under center to begin the 2023 regular season with Kyler Murray (knee) still recovering from a torn ACL. Tune has flashed strong athleticism and pocket presence, while Dobbs knows offensive coordinator Drew Petzing's system better than anybody on the roster thanks to their previous time together in Cleveland. When head coach Jonathan Gannon was asked if he thought Tune was prepared to be a starter, he said, "Yeah, very. He went in there yesterday and operated accordingly." Dobbs' experience makes him the front-runner, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 24-year-old win the job, either. Whoever wins the QB job in Arizona should be considered a desperation QB2 in superflex leagues.

  • Cardinals Won't Name Starting QB Ahead Of Week 1

    Headshot for Joshua Dobbs

The Arizona Cardinals cut veteran quarterback Colt McCoy on Monday, but head coach Jonathan Gannon said he won't name a starting QB ahead of the team's Week 1 contest against the Washington Commanders. Gannon is trying to gain a competitive advantage for a Cardinals team that is going to struggle this year, at least until Kyler Murray (knee) is able to return from a torn ACL he suffered late last year. The Cardinals will be choosing between Joshua Dobbs and rookie Clayton Tune for the starting gig under center in 2023 until Murray is healthy enough to make his return. Tune has more immediate upside, but either way, the QB situation in Arizona should probably be avoided by fantasy managers, even in two-QB superflex leagues.

  • Clayton Tune Rushes For 35 Yards In Preseason Loss To Chiefs

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Clayton Tune completed 12 of 24 passing attempts for 133 yards and rushed six times for 35 yards in Saturday's 38-10 loss to the Chiefs. He is competing with Colt McCoyto be Arizona's backup quarterback and is looking to take over as a starter whileKyler Murray (knee) is recovering. Tune's rushing ability could get him there. McCoy started the game, and Tune came in after McCoy went just 15 plays, completing five of eight passes for just 25 yards. The fifth-round rookie isn't quite Murray when it comes to scrambling, and he has things to work on (timing, footwork), but he has shown the ability to get out of trouble when needed. Tune will be on the fantasy radar in superflex leagues if he can beat McCoy for the starting job while Murray is sidelined.

  • Clayton Tune Shows Mobility In Loss to The Chiefs On Saturday

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

The backup to Colt McCoy is looking to take over as a starter while Kyler Murray is recovering, and his legs could get him there. The Cardinals lost to the Chiefs 38-10 Saturday night, with McCoy starting the game and Tune coming in after McCoy went just 15 plays, completing five of eight passes for just 25 yards. The fifth-round rookie isn't quite Murray when it comes to scrambling, and he has things to work on (timing, footwork), but he has shown the ability to get out of trouble when needed. Tune finished 12-of-24 for 133 yards and rushed six times for 35 yards.

  • Offseason In Review: Arizona Cardinals

    Headshot for Budda Baker

The Kyler Murray homework clause showed signs the team’s recommitment to its previous nucleus may not work out, but it was difficult to predict just how far the Cardinals would fall. Murray struggled through his worst season, one that ended with an ACL tear, and the Cardinals bailed on the Kliff Kingsbury and Steve Keim […]

  • Clayton Tune Has Worked With First and Second-Team Offense

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Clayton Tune has seen reps with the first and second-team offense during training camp, and Tyler Drake of AtoZSports said he "has easily been one of the main standouts from camp." The fifth-round selection of the 2023 NFL Draft threw 40 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions last year at the University of Houston and looks to be in the mix for the starting quarterback job as long as Kyler Murray (knee) is sidelined. While he could have the lowest floor as a rookie, the Cardinals could find it advantageous to see what he can do instead of rolling out Colt McCoy or David Blough for Week 1.

  • Clayton Tune's Mobility Could Give Him A Chance

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

Arizona Cardinals veteran quarterback Colt McCoy is expected to open Week 1 as the starter under center with Kyler Murray (knee) still recovering from a torn ACL. However, if Murray takes a while to come back, ESPN's Dan Graziano wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals take a look at rookie fifth-rounder Clayton Tune, whose mobility may help him fit the team's offensive system better than McCoy. McCoy has been with the team for two years and has started three games in each season, but Arizona has a new front office, coaching staff and offense, so his experience may not give him much of a leg up over Tune. Many people around the league think the Cardinals have the worst roster on paper and are focused on the future, so don't be surprised if Tune makes some starts before Murray returns.

  • Plenty Of Hype Surrounding Clayton Tune

    Headshot for Clayton Tune

There has been plenty of hype surrounding Arizona Cardinals rookie fifth-round quarterback Clayton Tune this offseason. Kyler Murray (knee) isn't expected to be ready for Week 1 after tearing his ACL late last year. Veteran Colt McCoy is considered the front-runner to start under center early on, but David Blough and Tune will get opportunities to impress in training camp and the preseason. "What I like about him is he's not scared," said head coach Jonathan Gannon. The 24-year-old impressed in college at Houston and has plus athleticism, although he's unlikely to wow anyone with his arm. While Tune does have a shot at starting early in his rookie year if he beats out McCoy and Blough, he'd eventually head to the bench in favor of Murray. He's merely an intriguing late-round draft pick in dynasty/keeper leagues.
