  • Jonathan Garibay The Front-Runner To Win Kicking Job

Dallas Cowboys kicker Jonathan Garibay, who was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent, is the front-runner to be the team's kicker in 2022. The Cowboys recently added Lirim Hajrullahu back to their roster for some training camp competition. But if Garibay can show that he's consistent enough in training camp and the preseason, he'll enter Week 1 as the starting kicker. The Cowboys haven't started a season with a rookie kicker since Dan Bailey in 2011. Garibay, a Texas Tech product, could eventually emerge as a good kicker, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a proven commodity at the position. Hajrullahu is a former CFL player who has kicked in only four regular season games in the NFL, all in 2021.

  • Cowboys Sign Lirim Hajrullahu Friday

The Dallas Cowboys signed free-agent kicker Lirim Hajrullahu in order to provide some competition in training camp for undrafted rookie Jonathan Garibay. Hajrullahu kicked in three games for the Carolina Panthers and one game for the Cowboys last year, making four of his five total field-goal tries and all eight of his extra points. The 32-year-old only has those four games of NFL experience from last year, so either way the Cowboys go, they'll be relying on an inexperienced kicker, at least to open the 2022 season. Fantasy managers will want to stay away from this situation.

  • Jonathan Garibay The Only Kicker On Cowboys Roster

The Dallas Cowboys currently only have one kicker on their 90-man roster, undrafted rookie Jonathan Garibay out of Texas Tech. The Cowboys are likely to add another kicker before training camp begins at the end of July. Dallas could re-sign Chris Naggar, who was released before rookie minicamp in the spring, but he has kicked in only one NFL game. Garibay has shown a strong leg, making multiple kicks from 50 yards during offseason practices, but he also had his misses from 50-plus yards. "You can definitely get a feel for his ability," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "... He's off to a good start. He's just young." Garibay missed just one of his 16 field-goal attempts in college last year and was a first-team All-Big 12 pick, but fantasy managers will want to avoid him if he ends up as the Cowboys primary kicker entering Week 1.

  • Cowboys Expected To Add To K Competition

The Cowboys currently have just one kicker on their roster, but that could change in the near future. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Dallas will, “in all likelihood,” add to the position before training camp next month. The Cowboys signed Jonathan Garibay as an undrafted free agent this offseason, making him the starter by default at this […]
