  • Derek Stingley Looking Good In Training Camp

Houston Texans rookie cornerback Derek Stingley (foot) has looked good early in training camp while coming off a Lisfranc injury that ended his final year in college early. Stingley was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2020 out of LSU, and despite concerns about his foot, Houston took him third overall in this year's draft. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is expecting the 21-year-old to start right away for the Texans in his rookie season. In three games before his injury in 2021, Stingley had eight tackles (3.5 for loss) and a forced fumble. Stingley obviously has an extremely high ceiling at the next level, and the Texans are hoping he'll help turn around what has been an awful secondary in recent seasons immediately.

  • Derek Stingley Expected To Be Ready For Week 1

Houston Texans head coach Lovie Smith said the team is ramping up cornerback Derek Stingley (foot) in training camp, and he's expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. Stingley is trying to return from Lisfranc injury to his left foot and he'll be eased into workouts at camp. The Texans will be careful with the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft. When fully healthy, the 21-year-old has the ability to be an elite cover corner in the NFL. Houston's secondary has been a weak spot for a while, so hopefully Stingley can help start to turn that around.

  • Texans Being Cautious With Derek Stingley Jr.

Houston Texans rookie cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. (foot) didn't appear to have any issues with his surgically repaired foot during organized team activities, but the Texans are being cautious with their first-round pick and limited his workload to individual drills earlier this week. "Coming in, we know he's coming off a major injury, so for Derek and some of our other players, you can see we have quite a few guys that are out right now. Some are getting no reps, some are getting a limited amount of reps," head coach Lovie Smith said. Stingley missed most of his final year in college due to a Lisfranc injury, but he should be a full-go in training camp, putting him on track to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Texans Agree With First-Rounder Derek Stingley Jr.

The Houston Texans agreed to terms with first-round cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. on a four-year, fully guaranteed rookie deal with a fifth-year option on Friday, according to a source. The former LSU cornerback was taken with the third overall pick, and he'll receive a $34.65 million deal that includes a $22.38 million signing bonus. The 20-year-old was a first-team All-American twice, but his final two seasons in college were marred by injuries. Stingley missed most of the 2021 season due to a foot injury, but he has since been cleared and should be ready for his rookie campaign. The addition of Stingley will go a long way in fixing Houston's perennially bad secondary.
