  • Pierre Strong Jr. Trending Down Following Preseason Opener

New England Patriots running back Pierre Strong Jr. was among Chad Graff's list of players trending down following Thursday's preseason loss to the New York Giants. Although the rookie led the team in rushing, most of his usage came on the final drive with the lowest reserves, which isn't ideal. Graff also notes that "Strong missed the start of training camp due to injury, and so far, it doesn't seem like he's caught up." He's competing with Ty Montgomery, J.J. Taylor, and Kevin Harris in the backfield. Strong likely won't be released, but his path to fantasy relevance looks bleak in 2022.

  • Pierre Strong Jr. Leads Pats In Rushing On Thursday

New England Patriots running back Pierre Strong Jr. rushed six times for 25 yards and caught his only target for no gain in Thursday's 23-21 preseason loss to the New York Giants. He led the Patriots in rushing with 25 yards, but came on the field after J.J. Taylor and Kevin Harris. James White retired on Thursday, opening up vital third-down role. Strong was solid on Thursday, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. The fourth-round pick will look out a role in New England's backfield, but will need to beat out Ty Montgomery, Kevin Harris, and Taylor for a spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Pierre Strong Jr. Could Be James White's Successor

New England Patriots fourth-round running back Pierre Strong Jr. was highly productive on the ground in his time at South Dakota State, as he averaged 7.2 yards per carry in his career and had 1,000 yards rushing in each of his three full seasons while scoring 40 career rushing touchdowns. However, with Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson forming an early down duo in New England, Strong projects as a complement and a potential long-term replacement for pass-catching back James White, who has yet to fully recover from hip surgery. "I would say from a Patriots perspective, yeah, I think he starts working a lot more on those third-down roles, maybe as more of a pass-blocking option to James White's pass-catching option, and then slowly eats into that. But don't be surprised if they also work him heavily in the rotation," Shrine Bowl director of operations and player personnel Eric Galko said.
