Alec Pierce Has Low-End Flex Value

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce is coming off a fairly decent rookie campaign. The 23-year-old finished with 41 receptions for 593 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games (12 starts) with the Colts last season. That's a decent performance considering the below average options the Colts were using at quarterback. The hope is that this team is better going forward with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson under center. The connection between Pierce and Richardson might not be there right away. However, the Colts don't have a ton of options on offense, so Pierce should receive plenty of targets. Michael Pittman Jr. remains the focal point in the receiving game. That being said, Pierce will probably be a secondary option, which makes him at best a low-end flex choice for Week 1.

Offseason In Review: Indianapolis Colts

The Colts’ stunning 2021 season-ender in Jacksonville seems does not exactly seem like it occurred 20 months ago. So much has changed since. Although the batch of Pro Bowlers (minus one well-documented exception) from that talented team remains ahead of the 2023 season, they have observed a chaotic overhaul in the time since that crushing […]

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce failed to haul in his only target in Saturday's preseason opener on the road against the Buffalo Bills in a 23-19 loss. Pierce's failed connection with rookie first-round quarterback Anthony Richardson near the goal line was a drop after it hit his hands. It was a tough first preseason showing for Pierce, but he should be a starter for the Colts heading into his second NFL season next to Michael Pittman Jr. In his first year in 2022, the 23-year-old caught 41 passes for 593 yards and two touchdowns on 78 targets over 16 games (12 starts) with pretty bad quarterback play. As a deep target with a rookie passer, Pierce will no doubt have his ups and downs while being unpredictable and inconsistent in fantasy.

Alec Pierce Looking To Expand Route Tree

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce has reportedly looked good during training camp after an up-and-down rookie season. The 23-year-old wideout caught 41 passes for 593 yards and two touchdowns in his debut campaign. According to James Boyd of The Athletic, he's looking to expand his route tree. "(Pierce) has caught a few mid to deep crossing routes (during camp) that have been a nice change of pace from just throwing it deep and having him go get it," Boyd wrote. "He still has that ability, but you can see he's trying to expand his route tree." The Colts wide receiver group has a true No. 1 receiver in Michael Pittman Jr., but Pierce will compete with Josh Downs and Isaiah McKenzie to capture the No. 2 wideout role. However, his upside could be limited by rookie growing pains from quarterback Anthony Richardson.
