  • Dameon Pierce A Low-End Flex Play In Week 3

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce is certainly not a must-start in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The second-year back has struggled with his opportunities in the early going, only rushing 26 times for 69 yards through two weeks. He has also played less than 50% of the team snaps in both games this year. Pierce isn't being utilized in the way we all imagined before the season, and finds himself a part of a three-back committee in Houston. He scored less than seven PPR fantasy points in both weeks and faces a Jaguars defense that has allowed just 83 rush yards per game this season. Pierce is a low-end flex play in Week 3.

  • Dameon Pierce Held To 35 Total Yards

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce was held to just 35 total yards in the team's 31-20 loss against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. Pierce ran the ball 15 times for only 31 yards while also catching two passes for four yards through the air. The second-year back has struggled to get going on the ground this season and finds himself in a running back by committee in Houston. He hasn't totaled over 40 rush yards in a game and hasn't played more than 50% of the team's offensive snaps in either game. Pierce will look to bounce back in Week 3 on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

  • Dameon Pierce - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce is looking to bounce back in Week 2 at home against the Indianapolis Colts following a quiet Week 1. Pierce ran 11 times for 38 yards and played just 45% of the team snaps in the season opener. It was a tough matchup for the second-year running back facing a stout Baltimore defense. But, he'll get a better matchup against a Colts team that allowed 105 yards on the ground in Week 1. It'll be interesting to see if Pierce sees a bigger workload in Week 2. Still, he's an RB2 in fantasy football this week.

  • Dameon Pierce Quiet In Week 1

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce had just 11 carries for 38 yards in Sunday's 25-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He also added two catches for nine yards in the passing game. It wasn't an efficient day for Pierce against a stout Baltimore defense. He averaged just 3.5 yards per carry and wasn't utilized a ton in the receiving game. Pierce also lost a handful of playing time to running backs Devin Singletary and Mike Boone, resulting in a snap share of just 48.6%. He'll look to rebound in Week 2 when the Texans face the Indianapolis Colts at home.

  • Dameon Pierce Draws A Tough Matchup in Week 1

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce will look to start his second NFL season strong in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. Pierce is coming off a solid 2022 rookie campaign, which saw him finish as the RB29 in PPR formats. But he draws a tough matchup to start the year. The Ravens allowed the fifth-fewest rush yards to running backs last season and gave up just 3.9 yards per carry on the ground. Despite the matchup, Pierce is still a low-end RB2 entering Week 1.

  • Dameon Pierce To Be Involved In Platoon?

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce took over as the team's featured back in Week 2 in his rookie season last year and never looked back, finishing with 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns. However, the addition of Devin Singletary, who had 819 yards and five touchdowns for the Buffalo Bills in 2022, could mean a lighter workload for Pierce. He should still start, but The Athletic's Mike Jones writes that it appears as if the Texans plan on going with a platoon backfield with Pierce and Singletary. Jones doesn't think it would be wise to rely on Pierce as your RB1 in fantasy football, but he makes for a strong No. 2. Expect the Texans to run the ball plenty in 2023 to take pressure off first-round quarterback C.J. Stroud.

  • Dameon Pierce Could Be Locked Into Workhorse Role

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce had five carries for 30 yards in Houston's 17-13 win over the New Orleans Saints. More importantly, though, he was the only running back that saw playing time with the first unit. In all nine snaps with C.J. Stroud and the starters, Pierce never came out. Devin Singletary's snaps on Sunday came with the second unit. We shouldn't read too much into a preseason game. However, it is encouraging to see Pierce play every snap with the first team. Pierce is coming off an impressive rookie season in 2022, running for 939 yards and four touchdowns. With the team signing Singletary this offseason, many fantasy managers were worried about split touches for Houston's backfield. However, if Sunday's preseason finale was any indication, Pierce could be locked into a more significant role than some had previously thought. Pierce is a great RB2 on your fantasy rosters in 2023 and could be in for a more prominent role in his second NFL season.

  • Dameon Pierce Struggles In Preseason Debut

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce couldn't get things going in Saturday's 28-3 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins. Pierce finished the day with just six carries and 15 yards in his preseason debut, averaging only 2.5 yards per carry. It was a rough go of it for the second-year running back, but Pierce started with the first-team offense and received the Texan's first carry of the game. The 23-year-old is expected to be Houston's lead back after rushing for 939 yards and four touchdowns over 13 games in 2022. He'll look to rebound in the final preseason game next week against the New Orleans Saints.

  • Texans Sign Larry Rountree III For RB Depth

    Headshot for Mike Boone

The Houston Texans signed free-agent running back Larry Rountree III to an undisclosed deal on Friday and waived offensive guard Keaton Sutherland in a corresponding move. Rountree, a former sixth-round selection of the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021, will give the Texans more running back depth behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary. The 24-year-old will be competing for a spot on the roster in training camp with names like Mike Boone, Dare Ogunbowale and Gerrid Doaks. In his two seasons with the Bolts, Rountree ran the ball 49 times for 106 yards (2.2 yards per carry) and one touchdown in 16 games (zero starts). He remains far off the fantasy radar.

  • Dameon Pierce Expects To Play In Second Preseason Game

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce isn't sure what his workload will be in the team's second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, but he expects to play after not seeing action in last week's preseason opener against the New England Patriots. The 23-year-old fourth-rounder looked great in his first NFL season last year before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. He finished with 939 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 220 carries (4.3 yards per carry) in 13 starts for Houston. The Texans added Devin Singletary in the offseason, but Pierce remains the team's clear lead back and should see enough volume to make him at least a low-end RB2 in fantasy leagues in an offense that will be run by rookie first-round quarterback C.J. Stroud.

  • Dameon Pierce Won't Play Thursday Night

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce will not play in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots on Thursday night. It's not a surprise that the Texans will keep their top running back out of the first preseason game. Pierce's next chance to play in the preseason will come on Aug. 19 against the Miami Dolphins. The 23-year-old was electric in 13 games in his rookie season in 2022 before he suffered a season-ending ankle injury. In those 13 games, he carried the ball 220 times for 939 yards (4.3 yards per carry) and four touchdowns, adding 30 receptions for 165 yards and another score. Pierce should once again see a heavy workload in 2023, but in an offense led by a rookie quarterback, the overall upside could be limited. Target Pierce as a low-end RB2 in fantasy drafts.

  • Dameon Pierce Wants To Reach 1,000-Yard Mark

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce wants to reach the 1,000-yard rushing mark in 2023 after falling 61 yards short of the mark in 2022 in his rookie campaign. "The expectation is to cap 1,000 yards. That's a goal I have for myself," Pierce said. "That's what I expect from me. [Bobby] Slowik expects that. Everybody around me expects that, and I'm going to try everything in my power to get that." He ranked near the top of the NFL in a few categories before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 13. Houston invested in their offensive line this offseason, and with better health, Pierce could definitely take a step forward in his sophomore season. The 23-year-old's fantasy value will only be capped by a weak Texans offense.

  • Dameon Pierce Noticeably Leaner Heading Into Year 2

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce is noticeably leaner than he was as a rookie heading into Year 2. The 23-year-old running back said he's been working with a nutritionist and working hard to slim down. As a rookie, the University of Florida product rushed 220 times for 939 yards and four touchdowns, adding 30 receptions for 165 yards and a receiving score. Getting into better shape could help him add more speed and reduce his injury risk, so it's a positive development. Pierce will likely have a limited ceiling due to a mediocre Texans offense, but he should handle a significant workload every week, assuming Devin Singletary doesn't outshine him during training camp.

  • Offseason In Review: Houston Texans

    Headshot for Mario Addison

The Texans’ rebuild continues, and it now involves a third head coach in three years. Following in the footsteps of the 1970s and 2010s 49ers in seeing back-to-back one-and-done coaching tenures transpire, the Texans have been the league’s most anonymous on-field operation during the 2020s. GM Nick Caserio generated scrutiny as the losses piled up, but […]

  • Dameon Pierce Improving Pass-Blocking

    Headshot for Dameon Pierce

Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce has been working on his pass blocking this offseason. The 23-year-old put together a strong rookie campaign, but struggled to pick up blitzers and help as a pass blocker. Pro Football Focus graded him as the 128th best pass blocking back in 2022. Texans running backs coach Danny Barrett says Pierce has improved his pass blocking, which should help their offense tremendously. It's worth noting that the Texans signed Devin Singletary who ranked as the fifth-best pass blocker as a back last season. Despite that, fantasy managers shouldn't be worried about Pierce's snap count considering he is improving as a blocker. He should profile as a mid-round value heading into fantasy drafts.
