Colts Release RB Deon Jackson

The Colts are moving on from a Week 1 starter. The team is releasing running back Deon Jackson, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Colts are filling the open roster spot with running back Trey Sermon, who will be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. [RELATED: Colts Add RB Trey Sermon […]

The Indianapolis Colts are releasing running back Deon Jackson on Saturday, according to a source, and are bringing up Trey Sermon from the practice squad for the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Jackson got the start for the Colts in the Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars with Zack Moss still recovering from a fractured forearm and sealed his fate with 13 carries for just 14 yards, catching five of six targets for 14 yards and losing two fumbles. Moss returned last week and will work as the leader of this backfield until Jonathan Taylor (ankle) can return from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Rookie Evan Hull (knee) is out for the year with a torn meniscus, leaving Jake Funk and Sermon as the only other RBs on the roster right now.

Colts Willing To Take Less For Jonathan Taylor?

The Jonathan Taylor drama has quieted down a bit since the start of the season, but by no means does that mean it isn’t there. After failing to both 1) reach a long-term agreement with Taylor and 2) find a viable trade partner willing to meet their price for Taylor, the Colts placed him on […]
Sep 23 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Jake Funk Evan Hull Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorEvan Hull Lands On Injured Reserve

The Indianapolis Colts placed rookie running back Evan Hull (knee) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and signed running back Jake Funk to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Hull had just one carry for one yard and had a six-yard reception in his NFL debut in the Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars before getting injured. The fifth-rounder will now have to miss at least the next four games. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list and won't be eligible to return until Week 5. Zack Moss (forearm) missed Week 1 but could return this Sunday against the Houston Texans. Moss will be Indy's starter until Taylor returns, with Deon Jackson also getting some run out of the backfield.

Deon Jackson Struggles On The Run Versus Jags

Indianapolis Colts running back Deon Jackson finished with 13 carries for 14 yards during the loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. The 24-year-old was not as productive on the ground as Anthony Richardson, who had 10 touches for 40 yards. However, he at least had five catches for 14 yards, so things could have gone much worse. In any event, Jackson's reign as the No. 1 option may last just a few more weeks. Zack Moss (forearm) might be back soon, and there's also a chance Jonathan Taylor (ankle) could return sooner rather than later. That said, Jackson needs to prove he can be a reliable runner. Until then, fantasy managers should only start him in deep PPR formats moving forward.

Deon Jackson Ready To Handle The Backfield Duties On Sunday

Indianapolis Colts running back Deon Jackson will presumably enter Week 1 against the Jaguars as the top option out of the backfield. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is on injured reserve, and with Zach Moss (forearm) doubtful, Jackson is expected to see an enhanced role for the Colts. The 24-year-old had the largest workload of his career in 2022, rushing the ball 68 times for 236 yards. He also had 30 catches for 209 yards while totaling two touchdowns. Although Anthony Richardson should get some action on the ground versus Jacksonville, Jackson commands flex attention in deeper fantasy setups, especially for managers in PPR formats.

Offseason In Review: Indianapolis Colts

The Colts’ stunning 2021 season-ender in Jacksonville seems does not exactly seem like it occurred 20 months ago. So much has changed since. Although the batch of Pro Bowlers (minus one well-documented exception) from that talented team remains ahead of the 2023 season, they have observed a chaotic overhaul in the time since that crushing […]

With Jonathan Taylor sitting on the reserve/PUP list for at least the first four games of the 2023 campaign, the Colts backfield is plenty uncertain heading into Week 1. With Zack Moss also nursing an arm injury, it sounds like even the Colts don’t know who will lead the team in carries to start the […]

With roster cutdown day having come and gone, Jonathan Taylor remains with the Colts for at least the time being. As a result, the 2021 rushing champion and the team still have time to find a way to continue their relationship, something general manager Chris Ballard recently spoke about. Indianapolis granted Taylor permission to seek out a trade partner, […]
Sep 3 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorDeon Jackson Expected To Start Week 1

Indianapolis Colts running back Deon Jackson is expected to draw the start in Week 1, according to Aaron Wilson. There was speculation that rookie Evan Hull could also start, and while he should mix in, the lead role ultimately belongs to Jackson. Beyond that, Zack Moss (wrist) will start when healthy, perhaps as early as Week 2, while Jonathan Taylor (ankle) figures to top the depth chart when (or if) the Colts activate him from the PUP list. Jackson is a solid RB3 option in Week 1.

Deon Jackson An Option To Start Early On For Colts

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) wasn't traded and will miss at least the first four games of the season while on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Zack Moss (arm) is the likely starter with Taylor sidelined, but he's not a lock to be ready for Week 1 due to a broken right arm. Deon Jackson started two of the team's three preseason games, so he's an option to start, although rookie fifth-rounder Evan Hull will also be in the mix. Rookie first-round quarterback Anthony Richardson's rushing abilities will allow first-year head coach Shane Steichen to scheme up some more rushing yards as the Colts look to get by without Taylor early on. Unless you're in an extremely deep fantasy league, it's probably best to avoid Jackson or Hull in an offense that could struggle out of the gates with an inexperienced rookie signal-caller.

The latest development in this enduring Colts-Jonathan Taylor drama involves the running back’s attendance. Aug 8 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Kenyan Drake Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorColts Sign Toriano Clinton To Add Depth To RB Room

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss suffered a broken arm on Monday, while star running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is feuding with Colts owner Jim Irsay. To add depth to the position, the team signed former Indianapolis University running back Toriano Clinton. The undrafted rookie posted 4,538 rushing yards and 48 rushing touchdowns on 593 attempts in five collegiate seasons. While his name won't be on the fantasy radar for now, it wouldn't be all that surprising if he climbs the depth chart in Moss' and Taylor's absence. For now, Deon Jackson and fifth-round rookie Evan Hull will likely operate as the team's top two running backs.
