  • Texans Will Add To Quarterback Position

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said the team plans to add to the quarterback position this offseason through free agency and the draft. "We have one quarterback on the roster. We have to add at that position and we'll do it thru free agency and the draft. We have to add two guys to our roster. I think the system is built around the quarterback as opposed to trying to fit a quarterback into a certain system," Ryans said. Davis Mills is the only QB the Texans currently have on roster. It would be a surprise if Houston didn't take a signal-caller in the first round of April's draft, and they will also address the position with a veteran in free agency. It would be a pretty big surprise if Mills is the team's starter to open the 2023 campaign.

  • Texans Expected To Draft QB With No. 2 Overall Pick

The Houston Texans have every intention of drafting a quarterback with the second overall pick in this year's draft, according to league sources familiar with the Texans' plan. It's pretty obvious, as Davis Mills is the only current signal-caller on the roster heading into the new league year. Mills finished tied for the league lead in interceptions with 15, while also leading the NFL in fourth-quarter picks. The next QB must fit new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's system. He spent last year as the pass-game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and will run a West Coast offense similar to the Niners. The most popular QB options in the draft are Alabama's Bryce Young, Ohio State's C.J. Stroud and Kentucky's Will Levis. The Chicago Bears have the first pick and are set at QB with Justin Fields, but they could also trade the pick to another QB-needy team.

  • Texans Planning To Add At QB Position

New Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was non-committal on a plan at quarterback during his introductory press conference, but he did say that the team plans to add to the position this offseason. Davis Mills was benched for two games in 2022 and replaced by Kyle Allen before regaining the starting role to close out the year. But Mills regressed in his second NFL season, completing 61% of his passes for 3,118 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Houston will have salary cap space and the second and 12th overall picks in the first round, so they could take a signal-caller early in the draft. Mills is currently the only QB under contract with Allen and Jeff Driskel set to be free agents in March. Depending on what the team does at the position, Mills could be headed for backup duties in 2023.

  • Davis Mills Throws Three Touchdown In Week 18

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills threw a season-high three touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, completing 22-of-38 pass attempts for 298 yards. He was picked off twice and added six rushing yards. It was arguably the best game of Mills' season, though a pick-six does mar the stat line somewhat. Mills heads into the offseason with a lot of uncertainty about his role with the team, as the Texans hold the No. 2 pick in a draft class with multiple high-end quarterbacks available.

  • Texans Expected To Trade WR Brandin Cooks In Offseason

The Texans are expected to accommodate wide receiver Brandin Cooks‘ standing trade request this offseason, as Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com reports. Houston received trade interest in Cooks prior to the 2022 trade deadline, but no one was willing to meet the club’s asking price. As Wilson confirms, the Texans wanted at least a second-round pick […]

  • Davis Mills A Risky Option In Week 18

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills remains a risky fantasy option heading into the team's season finale against the Indianapolis Colts. Last week, Mills threw for 202 yards in a 31-3 loss to Jacksonville, his most passing yards since Week 10. Since Week 4, Mills has just three games where he's thrown for over 200 yards, and he's also had five starts this season where he didn't throw a touchdown. Week 18 tends to be a little weird, but fantasy managers don't need to overthink Mills. Leave him on the waiver wire if you're playing for a fantasy title this week.

  • Davis Mills Fails To Find End Zone In Week 17

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills was 22-for-40 for 202 yards in Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also added four carries for a team-high 33 yards. The Texans continued to sprinkle in Jeff Driskel, who threw four passes and had two carries. Mills will have one more chance to show he can be part of Houston's future plans next week against the Colts, though Houston would guarantee itself the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft with a loss, which the Texans would likely use on a quarterback.

  • Davis Mills A Risky Play In Week 17

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills is a risky fantasy play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17. The second-year QB has failed to throw for 200 yards in four consecutive starts, and in two of those games, he didn't throw a touchdown either. He was held to 140 yards earlier this season in Houston's 13-6 win over the Jags. Over the last three games, Mills has also ceded snaps to backup quarterback Jeff Driskel, further limiting his fantasy upside. With a fantasy title on the line this week, managers shouldn't have interest in Mills outside of a deep, superflex league.

  • Davis Mills Throws Touchdown In Week 16 Victory

Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills was 17-for-28 in Saturday's win over the Tennessee Titans, throwing for 178 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The team still used a second QB on occasion, with Jeff Driskel throwing four passes and carrying the ball twice, but it was mostly Mills under center. He's played better lately, but the nature of this offense just doesn't offer many chances for Mills to put up yardage, as he's now been held under 200 yards in four consecutive starts. He shouldn't be on the fantasy radar against the Jaguars next week, as Jacksonville held Mills to 140 yards and no touchdowns in their first meeting.
