  • Offseason In Review: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Headshot for Shaquil Barrett

Sticking with their all-in approach around Tom Brady a year too long, the Buccaneers still benefited considerably from their 2020 free agency coup. The franchise added a second Super Bowl title and saw Brady display better form in 2021. Brady’s unretirement helped the Bucs stay atop the NFC South, but it took a historically terrible […]

  • Kyle Trask Continues His Strong Play

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask continued to step up and deliver despite being named the backup to open the season. The 25-year-old spent a majority of the preseason competing with Baker Mayfield for the starting gig in Tampa Bay. The Bucs ultimately decided to go with Mayfield as their starter. Despite that, Trask continued his strong preseason versus the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday. Trask completed 19-of-31 passing attempts for 192 yards and a touchdown in the win. He has been able to limit the turnovers and make some big plays on offense. The former second-round pick is set to backup Mayfield, but will be the next man up off the bench.

  • Kyle Trask To Open Season As Backup

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask lost his battle for the starting job under center to Baker Mayfield, as head coach Todd Bowles announced on Tuesday that Mayfield will open the 2023 regular season as the team's starter. It doesn't mean that Trask won't play meaningful snaps under center for the Bucs this year, but he won't get the starting nod on Sept. 10 against the Minnesota Vikings. Mayfield was the favorite all along, but Trask impressed the coaching staff in training camp and went 20-for-28 for 218 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's preseason win over the New York Jets. If the second-rounder in 2021 does end up starting games for Tampa at some point this year, he'll be a low-end QB2 option for those in superflex leagues.

  • Kyle Trask Surprises In Win

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask was tasked with making the start under center versus the New York Jets on Saturday. The 25-year-old served as the QB2 during the preseason opener, but appeared as the starter this time around. Trask was able to do his job and take care of the football during this game. He completed 20-of-28 passing attempts for 218 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Jets. Baker Mayfield remains the favorite to win the starting job, but Trask has made this a legitimate competition after his performance on Saturday.

  • Latest On Buccaneers' QB Competition

    Headshot for Baker Mayfield

With Anthony Richardson having won the starting job for the Colts, the quarterback competition in Tampa Bay is the lone remaining one around the league where the winner cannot at least be comfortably assumed. Plenty is yet to be determined regarding where Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask emerge in the pecking order. At the onset of training camp, the Buccaneers split […]

  • Kyle Trask Takes A Step Back

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask came in to relieve Baker Mayfield during Friday's preseason opener versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 25-year-old threw an interception on his first drive. It didn't get much better from there as he took three sacks over the next three series. He completed 6-of-10 passing attempts for 99 yards and zero touchdowns during the loss. After one game, it appears Mayfield has the edge in the battle for the starting QB gig. However, it's worth noting that Trask was named the starter for their second preseason contest. Hopefully, things will go better for the former second-round pick during that game.

  • Kyle Trask To Start Second Preseason Game

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told media members that quarterback Kyle Trask will start the team's second preseason game against the New York Jets. The Bucs have yet to name a Week 1 starter at QB between Trask and Baker Mayfield. Bowles is giving the more experienced option (Mayfield) the first start in Friday's preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers; he has 69 starts, 1,386 completions, 102 TDs and 64 interceptions under his belt. Trask has just nine pass attempts to his name in the NFL. Offensive coordinator Dave Canales said coming into training camp that Mayfield had the slight edge because of his command of the offense, but Trask has made things more interesting in the QB competition this summer. Preseason games could end up being the deciding factor in this battle.

  • Kyle Trask Has Closed The Gap In QB Competition

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

At mandatory minicamp seven weeks ago, it looked like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback job was Baker Mayfield's to lose by a wide margin. However, Kyle Trask has come to training camp considerably improved. He's much more decisive with the ball, is making quick decisions and big plays each day and is closing the gap between himself and Mayfield considerably. Mayfield and Trask are alternating first-team repetitions and will do the same for preseason starts before the team comes to a decision eventually during the preseason. Mayfield has the experience edge in the NFL, but Trask has a better understanding of the offense. Either way, whoever wins the job to begin the season will be nothing more than a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues with a low fantasy ceiling.

  • Buccaneers QBs Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask Splitting First-Team Reps

    Headshot for Baker Mayfield

The Buccaneers are continuing the evaluation process of their quarterback competition, one which has not been met with much fanfare considering the pedigree of Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask compared to predecessor Tom Brady. Both of the candidates are receiving considerable looks with the first-team offense. Tamp Bay is alternating Mayfield and Trask with the starters and backups during practice, […]

  • Kyle Trask Closing The Gap In QB Competition?

    Headshot for Kyle Trask

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask is reportedly closing the gap on Baker Mayfield in the team's competition for the starting quarterback role. According to Bailey Adams of PewterReport, com, Trask has taken care of the football and is looking impressive during training camp. "While Mayfield may have been the early favorite because of his experience in the NFL and his familiarity with (offensive coordinator) Dave Canales' style of offense, Trask has made strides and closed the gap in the last few days," Adams wrote. "What he lacks in experience, he's made up for by being decisive and not turning the ball over." Mayfield has reportedly thrown five interceptions at camp, while Trask has thrown just one. If Trask can win the starting job, he could be a fantasy football sleeper with two stud receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

  • SirVocea Dennis Battling For Third Inside Linebacker Job

    Headshot for Lavonte David

Tampa Bay Buccaneers fifth-round rookie linebacker SirVocea Dennis got ESPN.com's Jenna Laine's attention this offseason for a defense that has struggled to get interceptions. Dennis is known more for his pass-rushing ability than his coverage skills in college at Pittsburgh, but he had two pick-sixes during offseason practices -- one in rookie minicamp and one off quarterback Kyle Trask at mandatory minicamp. The 23-year-old will be battling for the third inside linebacker job at training camp this summer behind Devin White and Lavonte David. Dennis produced 36 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in his final three seasons at the collegiate level and could really become a nice player for Tampa if he continues to produce in coverage as well as a pass-rusher.
