  • Jets Take Zach Wilson At No. 2

The Jets selected BYU quarterback Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The 21-year-old has plenty of hype after spending multiple seasons at the collegiate level. However, he truly made his mark during the 2020 campaign after compiling 3,692 yards through the air to go along with 33 touchdowns and just three picks. He also had 10 rushing touchdowns and completed nearly 74 percent of his passes. While the lack of quality competition for the Cougars during Wilson's breakout season raises some concerns regarding his true effectiveness under center, the young signal-caller has plenty of talent surrounding him to be one of the most efficient rookies in the league. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats should keep him on the radar since the upside is there, although reaching for him is not recommended.

  • No Issues With Zach Wilson's Shoulder

BYU quarterback Zach Wilson (shoulder) had shoulder surgery back in 2019, but the New York Jets, who many believe will select Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, feel confident in his shoulder based on information they've received from trusted medical sources. There are zero issues with Wilson's shoulder, which is why the Jets didn't need to wait for his physical in Indianapolis. The Jets recently traded former No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold, signaling that they are ready to take their future franchise QB at No. 2 overall later this month. Wilson threw for 3,692 yards, 33 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2020 and impressed at his Pro Day workout. Extremely accurate all over the field and while on the run, Wilson has plenty of upside at the next level, but he won't be very attractive in single-year formats in 2021.

  • Panthers Sign Micah Simon After Pro-Day Workout

The Carolina Panthers signed wide receiver Micah Simon, who went undrafted in 2020, to an undisclosed deal after they saw him work out at BYU's Pro Day last week. Simon caught passes from quarterback Zach Wilson and ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash. He had 1,109 receiving yards in his four-year career at BYU, which included a switch from defensive back to receiver to begin his sophomore season. Simon had his best season in his senior year, catching 51 passes for 616 yards and two touchdowns in 2019. He is listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds and will join a group of pass-catchers in Carolina that includes Robby Anderson, D.J. Moore and David Moore, among others. Simon will be battle to make the team's final roster in training camp this summer, but he could very easily wind up on the practice squad.

  • Zach Wilson Electric In Pro Day Workout

BYU quarterback Zach Wilson didn't take part in any physical testing at his school's Pro Day on Friday after tweaking his hamstring a few weeks ago, choosing to stick with a throwing session and measurements. Wilson was electric during his workout and impressed with his ability to throw accurately on the run. He measured 6-foot-2 1/8 and 214 pounds with a hand size at 9 1/2 inches, which is big enough not to raise any concerns. "(He) made some incredible off-platform throws. To the right, to the left," said NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to go first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars in this year's draft, while Wilson is firmly in play at No. 2 overall if the New York Jets decide to move on from Sam Darnold this offseason. If The Jets pass on Wilson, the San Francisco 49ers would be in position to take him as their QB of the future after their blockbuster deal with the Miami Dolphins on Friday.

  • 49ers Acquire Third Overall Pick From Dolphins

The San Francisco 49ers are acquiring the No. 3 overall pick in next month's draft from the Miami Dolphins on Friday in exchange for the No. 12 overall pick, a 2022 third-round pick (San Fran's compensation pick for the Robert Saleh hiring) and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023, according to sources. The move is a blockbuster one that will have ramifications for both teams for years to come. The 49ers are moving up into the top-five picks, presumably to take their quarterback of the future. It's certainly not good news for incumbent Jimmy Garoppolo, who has struggled to stay healthy in his NFL career. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence is expected to go first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars. BYU's Zach Wilson, Ohio State's Justin Fields, North Dakota State's Trey Lance and Alabama's Mac Jones are the other potential first-round signal-callers.
