Fantasy Advice
Kadarius Toney is going to be one or the most polarizing players in fantasy football drafts this season. Super talented, never healthy, is his M.O. The Chiefs flirted with DeAndre Hopkins but he did not sign there. Meanwhile, a \"major focus\" of Chiefs training camp is to strengthen the connection between Patrick Mahomes and Toney. While I'm not tripping over myself to acquire Toney in drafts, at a relatively cheap cost, he's worth the risk.

Kadarius Toney Misses Thursday's Practice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (toe) was not on the field for Thursday's practice session. The Chiefs could be shorthanded this weekend with both Toney and Richie James (knee) missing the first two practices of the week. At this moment, both players are trending towards sitting out the Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears. If that happens, Skyy Moore could be in for a high-volume game against one of the worst passing defenses in the league. Toney has been off to a rough start to the season with six receptions for 36 yards through two games. He has potential, but will be a risky flex choice even if he does suit up.

Kadarius Toney Has A Sprained Toe

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (toe) missed practice on Wednesday due to a sprained toe that he suffered in the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It always seems to be something for Toney. After playing 25 percent of the offensive snaps in the season opener, Toney played 28 percent of the snaps last Sunday. Through two contests, he's caught six of his 10 targets for 36 yards. The Chiefs plan all along was to ease the 24-year-old into the fold after he missed most of training camp and the preseason due to injury, and now he's questionable to play in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears this Sunday. Toney has tantalizing upside with the ball in his hands, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy early in his NFL career.

Kadarius Toney Remains Shaky In Week 2

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney brought in all five of his targets for 35 yards in the Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It looked like the 24-year-old was in for a big day after the Chiefs seemed to be making a concerted effort to get him the ball in the first quarter after his Week 1 disaster, targeting him on three of Patrick Mahomes' 11 dropbacks for 41 yards in the period. They mostly went away from him thereafter, but not before Toney lost the ball on a screen and recovered it for a 12-yard loss in the third period. He logged a five-yard catch later that series, but wasn't targeted again. While it was certainly an improvement in the box score, the former first-rounder's playing time could be bordering on thin ice if he doesn't shore up on the mishaps soon. Toney is not yet a reliable fantasy WR3, and he'll be a low-floor proposition in Week 3's home affair with the Chicago Bears.

Kadarius Toney - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney bungled his Week 1 return from late-July knee surgery by dropping at least three of his five targets. The main silver lining behind this debacle was the 24-year-old's ability to command five targets on just 14 routes run (35.7% target rate), plus quarterback Patrick Mahomes endorsed him after the loss. Toney was a deservedly popular fantasy drop candidate amid a busy waiver wire, but it's not as if any other Chiefs WRs truly stepped up to supplant him in Travis Kelce's (knee) stead. The Jacksonville Jaguars defense notably tied for the fourth-most touchdowns permitted (18) to WRs last year. It's worth noting Toney could match up most with Tyson Campbell, who was bested for a 7/94/1 receiving line while mostly defending Michael Pittman Jr. in Week 1. Fantasy managers still can't trust Toney as anything more than a volatile WR4 with Kelce back in Week 2, but the former first-round pick's tantalizing talent leaves him worth stashing on benches.

Kadarius Toney Practices In Full On Wednesday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, per beat writer Nate Taylor. The 24-year-old wideout was limited in practice last week leading up to Thursday's opener due to the same knee issue. While it's encouraging to see him finally practice in full this week, he'll be extremely hard to trust for Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars in Week 2. Toney put together one of the worst games a wide receiver could have in last Thursday's loss to the Detroit Lions. Despite the fact that head coach Andy Reid took the blame for Toney's poor performance, he should be seen as nothing more than a WR4, low-end FLEX play against the Jags this Sunday.

Sep 12 · ESPN Chiefs Kadarius ToneyKadarius Toney Still Has Quarterback's Trust

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney struggled on Thursday night, catching just one of five targets for one yard. He also had three drops, including one that went into the hands of a Lions defender and resulted in a pick-six. Despite Toney's costly mistakes in the 21-20 loss, quarterback Patrick Mahomes emphasized that he still believes in the 24-year-old wide receiver. "I have trust that he's going to be that guy that I go to in those crucial moments," Mahomes said. "He's going to make the catch and win us some seasons like he did last year." For now, Toney is a low-end bench player who can be dropped to waivers in shallower redraft leagues.

Kadarius Toney Disastrous In Season Opener

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney caught 1-of-5 targets for one receiving yard and lost a yard on his lone carry in Thursday's 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions. There's no way of sugarcoating it: Toney's 2023 debut was downright brutal. He committed at least three drops, hearing jeers from the crowd on a key fourth-quarter drop late in the game. It was the 24-year-old's first action following late-July knee surgery that cost him the preseason, but Toney's Week 1 showing was mostly inexcusable. Frustrated fantasy managers may be quick to pull the drop trigger after such a discouraging display, but Toney's talent, albeit tantalizing, means he should probably be held on the end of benches before making any rash decisions. However, the enigmatic Toney should be nowhere near fantasy lineups until he establishes some semblance of consistency.

Offseason In Review: Kansas City Chiefs

As partially chronicled on Netflix, the Chiefs secured their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons. Patrick Mahomes is now 3-for-5 in Super Bowl appearances as a starter and is the first quarterback since Otto Graham (1950-55) to begin an NFL career with five straight conference championship games. The two-time MVP gutted through a high […]

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) put in a second straight day of limited practice on Tuesday. Toney missed most of training camp and all of the preseason after having surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his knee, but he's expected to be available to play in the Week 1 regular season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. However, the 24-year-old oft-injured wideout will most likely be on some sort of snap count on Thursday if he's active, which makes him an extremely risky fantasy lineup option to kick off the season. The Chiefs aren't going to risk Toney's long-term health, even if tight end Travis Kelce (knee) is unavailable. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore and Justin Watson could see bigger roles in the passing game early on until Toney gets up to speed.

Kadarius Toney Practices Monday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) was seen practicing on Monday. Head coach Andy Reid said on Sunday that Toney was "good to go" for the regular season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. Even if Toney is officially listed as limited on Monday's practice report, he should be available to fantasy managers for Week 1. The 24-year-old was a risk/reward fantasy selection heading into his first full year in Kansas City. When healthy, he's expected to be the Chiefs' top receiver target (other than Travis Kelce), which obviously gives him tremendous fantasy upside if he can remain on the field. Toney will be an upside WR4/flex play this week against Detroit.

Kadarius Toney Expected To Play Week 1

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) is "good to go" for Thursday night's season opener against the Detroit Lions, head coach Andy Reid told the media. Toney's health has been quite the topic of discussion this offseason, but now we have confirmation that the 24-year-old is on track to suit up Week 1. It's worth noting that Reid later labeled Toney as day-to-day, so don't be surprised if he's still listed on Monday's injury report. Fantasy managers should currently view Toney as a high-end WR5.

Chiefs Optimistic Kadarius Toney Will Be Ready For Week 1

The Kansas City Chiefs remain optimistic that wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) will be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season against the Detroit Lions, according to a source. Toney partially tore the meniscus in his knee at the start of training camp, had to have surgery, and hasn't done anything since. At the start of the offseason, the Chiefs made it clear that he was their clear-cut No. 1 wideout heading into the 2023 season. This week will be big for Toney in terms of practice repetitions. The good news for KC is that if Toney is limited early in the year, they have a deeper group of receivers that can step up to fill the void. The 24-year-old has clear upside with an expanded role in the Chiefs offense, but his injury history means fantasy managers shouldn't too much on him in drafts.

Kadarius Toney Could Practice In A Week

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) could return to practice in "about a week," according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic. Injuries have been an issue over Toney's first two seasons in the league, holding him out of 15 contests. It looks like he might at least be active for Week 1, but his role remains unclear given the fact that he has missed valuable time on the practice field while players like Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, and Rashee Rice have carved out roles. Fantasy managers should consider Toney a late-round flier and will need to be patient if he requires extra time to acclimate post-injury.

Chiefs Not Rushing Kadarius Toney Back From Knee Injury

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney suffered a setback-type injury to his knee just a day before training camp began and hasn't been practicing leading up to Week 1 of the regular season. It sounds like the team is in no hurry to get him back on the field and will be patient with the 24-year-old wideout. "We're not going to rush it. I don't think we have any expectations right now," Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi said. "We're just going to take it day by day and see how he is." Toney has flashed his athleticism in spurts since entering the league in 2021 but has only played in 19 of his 34 possible games. He'll carry plenty of injury risk into 2023 and could be used as merely a gadget player.

Kadarius Toney, Isiah Pacheco Won't Play In Preseason Opener

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) and running back Isiah Pacheco (hand, shoulder) will not play in the team's preseason opener on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Both players have been nursing injuries in training camp, so this shouldn't be any real surprise. The good news is that both Toney and Pacheco are expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 7 against the Detroit Lions. Toney tore his meniscus in the first practice of camp, while Pacheco is recovering from offseason surgeries on his hand and shoulder. If healthy, Toney is expected to be a top receiving target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, while Pacheco is expected to be KC's primary backfield option after taking over starting duties as a rookie in 2022.

Chiefs Expect Kadarius Toney To Be Ready For Week 1

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee), who tore his meniscus in the opening practice of training camp and required surgery, is expected to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season against the Detroit Lions. Toney hasn't returned to practice, but the Chiefs remain hopeful that he can be their leading receiver in 2023 after they acquired him from the Giants at midseason last year. There remains no timetable for the 24-year-old to get back on the field at camp, but it should be soon if he's going to be ready for Week 1. Toney has shown glimpses of his upside since being a first-round pick in 2021, but injuries have held him back so far. He'll be a risk/reward WR4/5 late in fantasy drafts this fall.

Kadarius Toney Not Seen At Sunday's Practice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) was not spotted at Sunday's practice. It's not much of a surprise after the 24-year-old underwent surgery on Monday to clean up cartilage in his knee. Toney also had a cleanup procedure on the same knee earlier this offseason, so it's been a very rocky start for the young wideout. While it's too early to cast determinations, it's fair to believe that Toney could be on the wrong side of questionable for Week 1. The former first-round pick still has plenty of time to get healthy before then. The late-round flier cases for Skyy Moore and Rashee Rice continue to strengthen for however long Toney isn't around.

Kadarius Toney Undergoes Knee Surgery On Tuesday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) underwent surgery Monday morning to clean up cartilage in his knee. He tweaked his knee while fielding a punt on Sunday, aggravating the knee that he already had a cleanup procedure on this offseason. Injuries have been the story of Toney's two-year NFL career, so it's tough to trust him to be available during the 2023 campaign. Head coach Andy Reid said "There's a chance" he'll be ready for the season-opener against the Detroit Lions in early September, so it looks like he's likely to carry a "questionable" tag right away into Week 1. Fantasy managers should be cautious when considering drafting Toney. The path to targets should get easier for Skyy Moore and Rashee Rice if Toney misses any game action.

Kadarius Toney Expected To Be Ready for Week 1

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney aggravated a knee injury while fielding a punt on Sunday and is expected to miss time during training camp. Toney underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee this offseason but finds himself back in the injury headlines. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Toney should at least be ready to play in the team's Thursday night season-opener against the Detroit Lions on September 7. Toney will miss valuable practice reps moving forward, which is obviously concerning since he's far from an established wideout thus far in his career. With Toney out, expect Skyy Moore, Rashee Rice, and Richie James to all get additional reps. Barring an injury setback, Toney will continue to carry a high-risk, high-reward outlook into his first full season with the Chiefs.

Kadarius Toney Not Spotted On Monday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) was not spotted warming up with the team on Monday at training camp. Toney injured his knee during warmups on Sunday and is apparently being held out the next day, which shouldn't really come as a surprise early in training camp. The 24-year-old has elite athleticism and plenty of ability on the football field, but staying healthy early in his NFL career has been hard. In his first two years in the league, he's played in only 19 games (eight starts) for the New York Giants and Chiefs. There is plenty of opportunity for Toney to make a big impact in the Chiefs' passing attack in his first full year with the team in 2022, but injury risk is a real factor when considering his fantasy value. He's absolutely worth a flier as WR3/4 with upside in fantasy drafts.

Kadarius Toney Tweaks Knee On Sunday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee) "tweaked" his knee during a special teams drill on Sunday. As a result, he sat out the remainder of practice. The wideout had the best year of his career in 2022, totaling three touchdowns in seven games with the Chiefs. Kansas City lost JuJu Smith-Schuster, who signed with the Patriots this offseason, meaning the team has high hopes for Toney in 2023-24. However, he hasn't gotten off to a good start. At any rate, there should be an update on his condition soon.

Chiefs Banking On Kadarius Toney Becoming A Star

The Kansas City Chiefs have pushed all their chips in on wide receiver Kadarius Toney becoming their next star receiver after they didn't add Odell Beckham Jr., DeAndre Hopkins or Adam Thielen this offseason. "You saw the upside last year with how special of a talent he can be," quarterback Patrick Mahomes said of Toney in April. "To have him working with coach Andy Reid and how we practice in training camp, I think he'll have his body in the best shape he can possibly be in to be healthy all season long." KC traded for the former first-rounder in the middle of last year, but the 24-year-old had a part-time role the rest of the season. Injuries have held Toney back early in his career, but if he can stay healthy, he's set to play a big role in the Chiefs passing attack this year. His elite speed and athleticism makes him worth a flier as a WR4 in fantasy drafts.
