Kenneth Gainwell Inefficient In Return

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell took 14 carries for 43 yards and added one reception for five yards during the team's 25-11 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his return from a rib injury, the 24-year-old took a backseat to D'Andre Swift until the game's final drive, where he was given eight carries while Philadelphia was milking the clock. Gainwell was largely inefficient, averaging 3.1 yards per carry and running straight into defenders once he crossed the line of scrimmage. Swift's second straight performance of over 100 yards has secured him the starting role. However, Gainwell still carries fantasy value in plus matchups and will take over as the clear leader if anything happens to the former Detroit Lion. Consider the third-year back a low-end flex option in Week 4 against the division rival Washington Commanders.

Kenneth Gainwell Off The Week 3 Injury Report

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) is off the injury report and will play in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former Memphis star missed last week's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a rib injury in Week 1. Gainwell played well on opening weekend against the New England Patriots, totaling 14 rushing attempts for 54 yards. The third-year running back also caught all four targets for 20 receiving yards in the win. Last week, D'Andre Swift filled in for Gainwell, totaling 28 rushing attempts for 175 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings. Fantasy players should expect both running backs to get work Monday night.

Kenneth Gainwell Practices In Full On Friday

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) was a full participant during Friday's practice after logging a limited session on Thursday. He has another day to log a full session on Saturday before the Eagles' Monday Night Football battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The third-year running back missed Week 2 with a rib injury that he suffered during a Week 1 win over the New England Patriots. Gainwell worked as the bell cow in that Week 1 victory, dominating the Eagles' running back snaps, albeit inefficiently (14 carries for 54 yards). D'Andre Swift worked as the lead ball carrier--in Gainwell's absence--in a dominating performance (28 carries for 175 yards) during the Week 2 win over the Vikings. In the wake of his impressive game, Swift will likely start against the Bucs but the Eagles' coaching staff like Gainwell and what he brings to the table. The two backs will likely work in a committee, which hampers both of their respective fantasy values.

Kenneth Gainwell Puts In Limited Practice

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) was listed as a limited participant in the team's first practice of the week on Thursday. Meanwhile, fellow RB Boston Scott was held out with a concussion. Gainwell was surprisingly the Eagles' lead runner in the season-opening win over the New England Patriots, but he picked up a rib injury in that contest and was inactive in last Thursday's win over the Minnesota Vikings. The 24-year-old looks to be in good shape to return on Monday night for a Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but there's no guarantee he'll see as much work as he did in Week 1 after D'Andre Swift had 28 carries for 175 yards and a touchdown last Thursday.

Kenneth Gainwell Ruled Out For Thursday Night

The Philadelphia Eagles ruled out running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) for the Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night. Gainwell picked up a rib injury in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday while operating surprisingly as the team's lead back. He was unable to practice all week. Gainwell is still worth a pickup in leagues where he's still available, but he'll have to wait until Week 3 to make an impact. Fantasy managers who were thoroughly disappointed by D'Andre Swift's Week 1 performance in his Eagles debut -- one carry for three yards, one catch for no gain -- should be ready to deploy him in a flex spot with Gainwell out against a bad defense this week. Rashaad Penny should also make his Philly debut after he was a surprise healthy scratch in the season opener.

Kenneth Gainwell Trending Toward Missing Week 2

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) is trending toward not being ready to play in Week 2 on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings, according to sources. The Eagles' final injury report for Thursday's game will be released later on Wednesday. It's likely that Gainwell will be listed as either questionable or out after being listed as a non-participant in walkthrough practices the first two days of the week. The 24-year-old was Philly's leading rusher in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots, so if he's inactive or limited on Thursday night, D'Andre Swift figures to take over the team's committee backfield. Rashaad Penny, who was a healthy scratch in the season opener, will likely make his team debut this week if Gainwell doesn't suit up.

Kenneth Gainwell Given Another DNP At Practice

The Philadelphia Eagles listed running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) as a non-participant on their estimated practice report on Tuesday after they conducted a walkthrough. It's the second DNP that Gainwell has picked up this week, meaning he should be considered very questionable to play in Week 2 on a short week this Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles probably aren't going to push the 24-year-old to play since they also have D'Andre Swift, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny at their disposal at the position. If Gainwell doesn't play or is limited, Swift figures to be Philly's lead back after seeing just one carry for three yards in his Eagles debut in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. As of right now, Gainwell profiles as a shaky RB3/flex for Week 2.

Kenneth Gainwell Uncertain For Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (rib) is dealing with a rib injury and remains a wait and see for the team's Week 2 game on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings. Gainwell was listed as a non-participant on the team's estimated injury report on Monday, so his status is one to keep an eye on this week, especially after he served as the leader of the team's backfield in their Week 1 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. If the 24-year-old is unable to play on Thursday or is limited in any way, D'Andre Swift, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny, who was a healthy scratch in the season opener, would form some sort of three-man committee backfield for Philly.

Kenneth Gainwell Dealing With Rib Injury

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) was listed on the Week 2 estimated injury report on Monday and did not take part in practice. This is more of a story after Gainwell surprisingly led the Eagles' backfield in the Week 1 win over the New England Patriots. D'Andre Swift served as the No. 2 and Boston Scott was the No. 3, with Rashaad Penny being a healthy scratch on Sunday. With a short week against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night in Week 2, Gainwell's availability could be in question if he isn't able to return to practice in the next two days. If Gainwell is out or limited this week, Swift figures to be the leader of a committee backfield for Philadelphia.

Kenneth Gainwell Dominates Backfield Touches In Win Over New England

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell took 14 carries for 54 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 20 yards during the team's 25-20 victory over the New England Patriots. In a surprise twist, Rashaad Penny was a healthy scratch, and D'Andre Swift handled just one carry on the night. Gainwell accounted for 81.8 percent of the running back touches Sunday. The usage was fantastic, but he failed to find the end zone and averaged fewer than four yards per carry. Whether or not the backfield is rotated more often over the next few weeks remains to be seen, but it is safe to assume that the third-year back is the No. 1 option for Philadelphia moving forward. Gainwell should be considered a fringe RB2 against Minnesota this upcoming Thursday.

Kennedy Brooks Leads Eagles In Carries Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kennedy Brooks took seven carries for 26 yards and caught his lone target for a four-yard gain during the team's 18-18 preseason tie with the Cleveland Browns. Brooks did not see the field until the second half but ended up leading the team in total carries by the end of the night. The 24-year-old floated around the Eagles practice squad last season but has little to no chance of making the final 53-man roster, especially after a less-than-stellar showing against the Cleveland third-string defense. With the Eagles running back room packed by the likes of Rashaad Penny, D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell, Trey Sermon, and Boston Scott, Brooks will be lucky to land on the Philadelphia practice squad by the time the regular season kicks off. He should see some run during the Eagles' final preseason game next Thursday.

Kenneth Gainwell In A Featured-Back Role?

Philly Voice's Shamus Clancy writes that Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell appears to be promoted to a "feature" back spot in training camp recently, with D'Andre Swift emerging as the pass-catching back who will be on the field in third-down and two-minute situations. Gainwell has frequently been the team's early down back when he's getting touches as a runner, and he's undoubtedly had a stronger camp than the oft-injured Rashaad Penny. Gainwell scored three touchdowns in short-yardage, goal-line situations in Wednesday's practice. Clancy's current guess is that Gainwell is the team's top back, with Swift, Boston Scott and Penny behind him in that order. Swift certainly has the most appeal as an RB3/flex in PPR leagues, but Gainwell could begin to gain steam as a late-round flier over Penny in standard-scoring leagues if this momentum lasts.

Kenneth Gainwell Getting Work In Two-Minute Drills

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenneth Gainwell has been the featured back during two-minute drills during training camp. This shouldn't be surprising considering that has been his role in each of the last two seasons. The Eagles traded for D'Andre Swift this offseason and the hope was that he'd take on a majority of the passing downs. If Gainwell takes over that role that could be bad news for Swift's overall value. The Eagles also have Rashaad Penny who figures to get a majority of the running downs. Out of the trio, Swift has the highest upside, but Gainwell could have sneaky value next season.
