  • 49ers Won't Ask Too Much Of Trey Lance

The San Francisco 49ers have made it clear that they aren't going to ask too much of quarterback Trey Lance in his first full season as the starter. They have a strong defense, plenty of talent at the skilled offensive positions and a good running game. Lance has been inconsistent in training camp, which will likely carry over to the early portion of the regular season, but his upside is hard to deny, especially because he brings a running element that can offset whatever accuracy issues he has. ESPN's Nick Wagoner said expectations for Lance should be kept in check, but he's certainly not a bad QB2 stash in fantasy football for later in the season. The Niners expect the 22-year-old to get better as the season progresses.

  • Trey Lance Impresses In First Preseason Outing

The Trey Lance Era has officially arrived in San Francisco ahead of the 2022 season. Lance utilized the first two drives of the team's preseason opener against the Packers on Friday to showcase his dual threat abilities, finishing 4-for-5 through the air for 92 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a seven-yard rush to his total. All in all, it was two drives with Lance under center, two scores (one field goal, one touchdown). While Lance did make two starts last year while Jimmy Garoppolo was injured, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft holds the keys to the offense now. His rushing ability on top of his deft deep ball touch makes him a tantalizing QB1 option in redraft formats, while his age and upside make him a potential cornerstone of keepers formats. His next preseason action comes next Saturday vs. Minnesota.

  • Trey Lance Has Been Inconsistent

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance finished Saturday's training camp practice with a flourish, but it didn't carry over to Sunday. He completed just four of his 12 passes on Sunday, which included a bad interception that was forced during the final period of the day. However, according to receiver Brandon Aiyuk, Lance was not fazed by his performance and talked to teammates about the plays he wanted back and how he could improve going forward. It shows Lance's maturity at a young age, but even though the Niners believe he's their long-term answer at the position, they're unsure how well he'll play in his first full year as the starter in 2022. The 22-year-old will surely have his ups and downs, but his dual-threat abilities give him low-end QB1 upside right away.

  • Growing Pains Expected From Trey Lance

The San Francisco 49ers definitely believe they will eventually be better with quarterback Trey Lance, but in the short term, they understand that Lance will have growing pains and lack consistency from game to game. Lance hasn't played a full season since 2019, when he was on the field for 949 snaps at North Dakota State. It's why he sat behind Jimmy Garoppolo last year after being the third overall pick in the draft. The repetitions he receives this year will help him improve for the future. The Niners believe the 22-year-old can be one of the best QBs in the league, but they're entering the 2022 season with a degree of uncertainty about how he'll play. Fantasy managers should have similar view this year, but Lance's dual-threat abilities gives him QB1 upside in the right matchups in his first full year as the team's starter.

  • Trey Lance Not Dealing With Arm Fatigue

Contrary to a previous report, a member of the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff said that quarterback Trey Lance hasn't been dealing with "arm fatigue." "I've never heard anything about that a day in my life," the unnamed staff member said. There have been reports that there are some concerns about Lance's arm health within the organization, but this seems to refute any of that. Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) has yet to be traded this offseason, but it's still expected that the Niners will go with Lance as the starter under center to begin the regular season in 2022. But if training camp begins and Jimmy G is still around, there could be a little QB controversy in San Francisco. Lance is an exciting dual-threat talent both in real life in fantasy, and he'll be a high-end backup option for fantasy managers if he's the unquestioned starter this year.

  • Trey Lance Dealt With Finger Injury Throughout 2021 Season

Trey Lance did not seriously push Jimmy Garoppolo for the 49ers’ starting job last season, with the elder quarterback keeping it despite multiple injury issues. A Lance injury problem looks to have contributed to his low-key rookie year. Although the 49ers undoubtedly wanted to slow-play it with the unique prospect — a Division I-FCS talent […]

  • Trey Lance's Finger Is Feeling Good

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (finger) injured his right index finger in a preseason game last year, and although it didn't keep him from playing in the regular season, he admitted it impacted him when he threw the football. Lance said he focused more on getting healthy this offseason than adjusting any of his mechanics. "But now, I feel like I'm in a great spot, health-wise, and throwing the ball well, and feeling really good," Lance said. It remains to be seen if the Niners will trade Jimmy Garoppolo before training camp, but with Garoppolo still rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Lance will handle all the first-team repetitions during organized team activities and is still expected to be the team's starting signal-caller come Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Trey Lance Drawing Praise From Star Teammate

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance has received plenty of negative press over the last few months. However, despite the unfavorable publicity, tight end George Kittle recently went to bat for the signal-caller. When asked about having Lance under center this season, Kittle was all for it, exclaiming, "it's going to be pretty exciting." The former Bison appeared in six games during his inaugural year, throwing for 603 yards and rushing for 168 yards. He also accounted for six total touchdowns, although he tossed two interceptions and completed only 57.7% of his passing attempts. Nonetheless, while receiving a vote of confidence from Kittle is certainly a good thing for the 22-year-old, it still doesn't mean he'll start this season. But even if he does, he has a way to go before earning the trust of fantasy managers.
