  • Trey Lance On Schedule In His Recovery

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he thinks that quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) is "right on schedule with everything" in his recovery from a broken right ankle he suffered in Week 2. However, the Niners don't expect him back for the playoffs. San Francisco was expected to trade Jimmy Garoppolo this year after naming Lance the starter going into the 2022 campaign, but they ended up keeping Jimmy G, so the Niners could have a tough decision heading into next year with Garoppolo set for free agency and Lance going into his third year. Lance, a first-rounder in 2021, has ditched crutches and a walking boot and should be ready for the start of next season, but it remains to be seen if the 49ers are fully committed to him.

  • 49ers Remain Committed To Trey Lance

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) has a timetable of four to six months after he broke his fibula and tore the deltoid and sesamoid ligaments in his ankle. The expectation is that Lance won't return this season. However, the 49ers remain committed to Lance as the future of the team under center. At the moment, Jimmy Garoppolo will start under center and is a capable option for this offense. The upside is certainly there with Lance. Dynasty fantasy managers should ride this out because it could pay off in the end. However, fantasy managers in re-draft leagues can probably safely drop Lance for an active quarterback.

  • Garoppolo advising Lance to try to stay positive

Jimmy Garoppolo said Thursday he has spoken with Trey Lance a couple of times this week and has advised him to try to remain as positive as possible as he recovers from his season-ending ankle injury.

  • Trey Lance Avoids Compound Fracture

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) had successful surgery on Monday morning for a fractured and dislocated ankle, according to a source. The good news is he avoided a compound fracture like Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's a few years ago. Lance will still miss the rest of the 2022 season after getting injured early in the Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The 22-year-old officially suffered a fractured fibula and ligament disruption to his right ankle. The Niners are confident that he'll recover and be ready for the 2023 campaign. In the meantime, San Francisco is happy they ended up hanging onto Jimmy Garoppolo, as he'll return to starting duties the rest of the way. Fantasy managers in need of a QB upgrade in two-QB leagues should absolutely look at picking Jimmy G up off waivers this week.

  • Trey Lance Possibly Done For The Year

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) was carted off the field early during the Week 2 matchup against Seattle due to an ankle injury. Most were hoping for good news. However, the update isn't good, with NFL insider Adam Schefter reporting the team believes the signal-caller suffered a "significant ankle injury." As a result, Lance is expected to undergo surgery, likely ending his season. The 22-year-old was named the Niners' starter in the offseason and was projected to take a step forward in his progression. Yet, now that he's presumably done for the year, the team will likely turn to a familiar face in Jimmy Garoppolo, who may be under center for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

  • Trey Lance Ruled Out For Rest Of Week 2

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) will not return to Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The signal-caller suffered an ankle injury early in the contest, requiring his leg to be placed in an air cast before leaving the field on a cart. Although there could be a positive update regarding Lance's condition, things aren't looking good, so fantasy managers should prepare for the worst. With that said, Jimmy Garoppolo is in under center and will likely remain the team's starter while Lance is out.

  • Latest On 49ers' Quarterback Situation

Going into just his second game as a full-time 49ers starter, Trey Lance is not in a situation that compares to the ones most high-level quarterback prospects have encountered upon entering the NFL. Jimmy Garoppolo‘s restructured deal to stay with the team has undoubtedly shortened Lance’s leash, creating what could be unusually high Week 2 […]

  • Trey Lance Has Rushing Floor In Week 2

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance will attempt to quiet the doubters when the Seahawks come to Levi's Stadium for a Week 2 divisional matchup. Lance struggled last week against the Bears, finishing as the QB27, but Soldier Field was a sloppy mess from heavy rain. It is likely to rain in San Francisco, too, but it can't be worse than it was last weekend. The Seahawks are also ranked as a significantly poorer defense against the pass last season than did the Bears. They allowed the second-most passing yards in the league. The absence of injured starting RB Elijah Mitchell (MCL) could increase Lance's role in the running game. With a high floor built on rushing yards, Lance just needs to do a little in the passing game to be a QB2.

  • Trey Lance Throws For 164 Yards, Adds 54 Rushing Yards

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance completed 13 of 28 passing attempts for 164 yards and one interception in his team's season-opening loss to the Bears on a rain-soaked Soldier Field. He also carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards, leading the team. The Niners took a 7-0 lead after Lance drove the team 52 yards at the beginning of the second quarter, then they added a field goal to start the third quarter. But Chicago responded with two consecutive touchdown drives, and Lance threw an interception in the Niners own territory on the next drive that set up Chicago for its final touchdown. Growing pains are to be expected for the young quarterback, whom the Niners traded up to draft third overall last year. It was encouraging to see his arm strength on display, as Lance completed a 44-yard pass to Jauan Jennings, a 31-yard pass to Brandon Aiyukand a 20-yarder to Ray-Ray McCloud III. Lance's fantasy managers should be ready for more disappointments this season, but his Week 2 matchup against the Seahawks could be smoother sailing.

  • Trey Lance Has No Leash In Week 1

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance is not being held back as he begins his journey as the team's starter. As Ian Rapoport of notes, Lance has "no leash" heading into Week 1 versus the Chicago Bears. He has significant upside as a potential QB1 finisher in 2022, but his value could be capped on Sunday due to terrible weather in the Chicago area. For this week, Lance is a mid-to-high QB2 who should be left on most benches in single-quarterback leagues.

  • Trey Lance - Week 1 Outlook For Fantasy Football

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance's highly anticipated first game as a starter comes this Sunday in Chicago, a matchup that could establish the redshirt prospect as a top 12 fantasy quarterback. The highly-athletic second-year QB showed flashes early on in preseason, but by the end of preseason a narrative began to develop that the 49ers might not be confident in him. The Niners' offensive line has new faces, and the Bears ranked sixth in sacks last season. The Bears' pass defense ranked in the middle-to-bottom tiers in various statistical categories. They allowed a relatively high yards per pass attempt, but opposing offenses mostly ran the ball on the Bears. With the 49ers emphasizing a strong run game and deep backfield, they could focus on running the ball, too. That wouldn't be altogether bad for Lance's fantasy prospects, given his own rushing ability, and it could help him finish inside the top 12 QBs Week 1.

  • 49ers Expect Trey Lance To Struggle?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance is likely to struggle in his first full season as the starting QB, and even some of the team's recent public comments indicate they think as much. The Niners have question marks at four of the five starting offensive line spots. The defense is one of the best in the league, which should take some pressure off Lance, but there are enough questions at key spots on offense to make things difficult for the 22-year-old signal-caller in 2022. Lance is still the team's unquestioned future, even with Jimmy Garoppolo sticking around as the backup this year, but fantasy managers should expect growing pains. His dual-threat abilities at the position give him a higher floor than most, but he's better off being selected as a high-end QB2 with upside in fantasy drafts.
