Fantasy Advice

Not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Steelers Nation has their pitchforks at the ready if this offense stumbles out of the gate. Even though the OL was a mess and a rookie QB played in 13 games (12 starts), we expected more last year with the skill players at Canada's disposal. Harris specifically dealt with serious foot issues last season, limiting his mobility. He should be in line for similar high touches, and he can catch. He's just more of a plodder than a dynamic play maker. RB19 in PPG last year is not good, but follow the volume and I think Najee will show the foot played a bigger limiting factor last year than people realize. This is a fair price.

  • Najee Harris Could Surprise In Week 3

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris has just 74 rushing yards through the first two weeks of the season and will hope to turn things around in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders have given up the third-most fantasy points to running backs so far this season, allowing 183 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Jaylen Warren has been involved, primarily as a pass-catcher, but the RB1 duties in Pittsburgh still clearly belong to Harris. It's difficult to rely on the Steelers' offense right now, but in this matchup, Harris can be started in fantasy lineups as a low-end RB2.

  • Najee Harris Picks Up 43 Yards Against Browns

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris turned 10 carries into 43 yards and hauled in one of his three targets for zero yards in a 26-22 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers struggled to get the running game going on Monday night but Harris was able to break away for runs of 21 and 17 yards late in the third quarter. The unfortunate news for fantasy managers is that Jaylen Warren was once again much more effective as a pass-catcher and should continue to see the field for many of the team's third downs. It's difficult to rely on Harris in fantasy lineups right now, but Pittsburgh will face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to running backs through the first two weeks of the season.

  • Najee Harris - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris was given just eight touches in Week 1 but should be more involved in a Week 2 bout with the Cleveland Browns. In four career contests against Cleveland, Harris has four touchdowns and has never finished with fewer than 11 fantasy points. Although the Browns limited Joe Mixon and Cincinnati's offense as a whole last week, they were vulnerable to running back production in 2022 and surrendered the sixth-most fantasy points to the position. Concerns with Pittsburgh's offense make it difficult to consider Harris a must-start, but he should still be viewed as a low-end fantasy RB2 with upside this week.

  • Najee Harris Quiet In Season Opener

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris handled six carries for 31 yards and added two yards on two receptions in the team's 30-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Outside of an impressive 24-yard run towards the end of the first half, Harris was relatively quiet. This was most likely due to the fact that Pittsburgh found itself trailing 20-0 quickly and subsequently attempted 46 passes. Both Jaylen Warren and Anthony McFarland Jr. mixed in for a few touches, but RB1 duties still clearly belong to Harris. Even if the Steelers are unable to take a noticeable step up on offense this season, brighter days should be ahead for the third-year back. Harris will look to bounce back as a fantasy RB2 next week against the Cleveland Browns.

  • Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren To Split Carries Sunday

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are expected to split carries against the San Francisco 49ers, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. While Harris will draw the start and handle plenty of first- and second-down opportunities, Warren will play third downs while also earning snaps on some first and second downs. Fantasy managers should view Harris as a low-end RB2 while Warren is an intriguing RB3/FLEX option if you need running back help in a pinch.

  • Najee Harris Could Struggle In Week 1

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris got off to a slow start in 2022 but will hope to carry the success he found late in the season into the 2023 campaign. Unfortunately, he could have a difficult time doing so in a home matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, who allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs last season. Nonetheless, Pittsburgh's offense is expected to take a step up with quarterback Kenny Pickett entering year two, and Harris will lead the charge in the backfield. He can be started in all fantasy lineups as a volume-based RB2 in Week 1.

  • Najee Harris Not Giving Up Bell-Cow Duties Easily

    Headshot for Najee Harris

The Athletic's Mark Kaboly doesn't think it would be shocking if Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris equals his numbers from a year ago when he had 313 total touches, even with the emergence of Jaylen Warren as a legitimate No. 2 option in the backfield. The Steelers limited Harris in the preseason in order to keep him fresh, but after all, head coach Mike Tomlin is a bell-cow RB coach. Harris had a terrible first half of 2022 while nursing a foot injury, but he was great in the second half, scoring six touchdowns and touching the ball 20-plus times per game. The 25-year-old has back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons to begin his NFL career and has been durable, but his efficiency (3.9 yards per carry) leaves something to be desired. As long as the volume remains high, Harris will be a solid RB2 for fantasy managers, and he could be even more if Pittsburgh's passing attack actually scares opponents.

  • Jaylen Warren Not Surpassing Najee Harris

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Steelers.com's Dale Lolley writes that the narrative that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is going to "surpass" Najee Harris as the team's lead back isn't true. Both Harris and Warren will have their roles in Pittsburgh's backfield this year. Harris is the No. 1 and Warren is the third-down back, writes Lolley. Both backs will be valuable, but he disputes the belief that Warren will eventually push past Harris. Harris, a first-rounder in 2021, has back-to-back seasons of 1,000 rushing yards in his first two NFL seasons, although he's averaged just 3.9 yards per carry on 579 attempts. The 25-year-old isn't going anywhere, but Warren could start to see the field more if he continues to look more explosive. In fantasy drafts this weekend, target Harris as an RB2 and Warren as a handcuff or worthwhile RB4/flex in the later rounds.

  • Najee Harris Finds End Zone In Preseason Finale

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris handled four carries for 18 yards and a touchdown and added one reception for 16 yards in a 24-0 preseason win over the Atlanta Falcons. Pittsburgh's starters took the field for just two offensive drives, but Harris made his presence known on both. The 25-year-old ripped off a strong 12-yard run before eventually powering his way in for a one-yard score on the team's first possession and found daylight on a screen pass to open their second drive. Harris is expected to cede some opportunities to Jaylen Warren this season, but should still return value for fantasy purposes in an improved offense.

Improvement in the passing game is expected for the Steelers in 2023, Kenny Pickett‘s first full season as the team’s starting quarterback. • Najee Harris Not Involved In Timeshare

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris remains the team's unquestioned No. 1 back heading into the 2023 regular season. "Najee is our '1.' I don't think there's any doubt about that," offensive coordinator Matt Canada said when asked if the timeshare at RB will change this year. Harris' relative light training camp/preseason workload has been about preserving him for the entire 2023 season. The 25-year-old is going to lose some offensive snaps to pass-catching back Jaylen Warren, but Harris remains Pittsburgh's primary ball-carrier. Harris has two straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons to begin his NFL career with 20 total touchdowns (14 rushing, six receiving). He's on the RB1/2 borderline for fantasy purposes.

  • Najee Harris Quiet In Preseason Victory

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris handled two carries for six yards in the team's 27-15 preseason victory over the Buffalo Bills. As expected, Harris' time on the field was limited, but he was undoubtedly outshined by second-year back Jaylen Warren, who turned his only attempt into a 62-yard touchdown. To this point, much of Harris' fantasy value has been predicated on the volume of opportunities he has received. Harris should continue to produce as Pittsburgh's lead back, but his upside could be capped if the explosive Warren takes on a larger role in 2023.

  • Steelers Utilizing Two-Back Sets With Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are reportedly getting snaps together in two-back sets during training camp. The team utilized this package a few times late last season, so it will be interesting to see if it becomes a core piece of its offense. If so, Jaylen Warren could see an uptick in his snap share, which surely won't hurt his chances to have a little bit of value in fantasy football leagues of all sizes. At worst, Warren seems to have locked down the RB2 role in Pittsburgh and should be stashed as an intriguing handcuff RB in 2023.

  • Najee Harris Still A Workhorse Back For Steelers?

    Headshot for Najee Harris

Since his 2021 rookie season, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris leads the NFL with 579 carries and 694 touches. The numbers, and offensive coordinator Matt Canada's propensity to give the ball to Harris, suggest the 25-year-old will continue to be a workhorse for Pittsburgh in 2023. He has seen 40.8% of the team's touches the last two years -- the highest percentage in the league. Harris' 2,234 yards are the most rushing yards in a player's first two seasons in Steelers history. However, he's averaged only 3.9 yards per carry, which is the fewest in the NFL among 36 players with 250-plus carries. Harris has also forced 160 missed tackles -- second-most in the league. Defenses caught on last year and smothered Harris, so the rest of Pittsburgh's offense needs to step up to take some pressure off their RB. Better health will also be key in 2023. Harris is currently on the RB1/2 borderline in fantasy.
