Fantasy Advice

I don't know what to think about Etienne really other than to believe he's been overvalued since he got to the NFL. His first season was a write-off. He had some big games last year on the much improved Jags, with three Top 6 finishes, but otherwise a 12th, 15th, and worse from there. Doesn't catch the ball enough. Rookie Tank Bigsby and D'Ernest Johnson look to turn the Jags running game into more of a committee. Good offense but Etienne is tough-ish to rely on.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Still A High-End RB1 Vs. Texans

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. gets a sweet Week 3 matchup against the Texans after disappointing fantasy owners last Sunday. Etienne opened the season on a positive note with 21.4 PPR points in Week 1, but stalled last game in an all-around disappointing effort from the entire Jags offense. The Houston defense has been the cure-all for running back woes the past couple of years and that hasn't changed through two games. Fantasy afterthought Zack Moss ran for 88 yards and a touchdown (4.9 YPC) on them last week, so Etienne owners should be salivating at the potential for an eruption in this one. Lock in the former first-round pick as a top-five back this week.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Healthy Heading Into Week 3

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. (cramps) was not listed on the first injury report of Week 3 on Wednesday after putting in a full practice. Etienne dealt with some cramping and had to come off the field late in the sweltering heat in the Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he should be more than fine to suit up for a Week 3 contest against the visiting Houston Texans this Sunday. So far, the 24-year-old ball-carrier has seen the lion's share of the backfield work through two weeks of the season, and that should continue in an inviting matchup this weekend. Keep Etienne in all starting fantasy lineups for Week 3.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Totals 42 Yards In Loss Vs. Chiefs

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne had 12 carries for 40 yards against Kansas City, adding two catches for two yards. With this game turning into a surprise defensive battle, the Jaguars offensive pieces struggled for the most part, and Etienne was no exception. After putting up 21.4 PPR points in Week 1 and starting off the year as the RB7, Etienne could only muster 6.2 in this one. The return of Chris Jones clearly made life tough for the Jaguars, especially in the running game, as the Chiefs only gave up 74 total rushing yards on the day. While it was a letdown for Etienne owners, he will still be a top option heading into next week against the Texans and their ultra-vulnerable rush defense.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr.heads into a juicy Week 2 matchup vs. the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday. The sophomore running back had a great opening week against Indianapolis, rushing 18 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also added five catches for 27 yards through the air. The Chiefs sport an OK run defense and will get a significant boost with DT Chris Jones back in the lineup after inking a new deal this week. Still, with the offensive output expected in this one and a guaranteed ~20 touches for Etienne, he's a surefire smash at the running back position in Week 2.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Puts Up Great Week 1 Performance

    Headshot for Tank Bigsby

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. rushed 18 times for 77 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He also added five receptions for 27 yards, helping the Jags secure a Week 1 victory over Indianapolis. The sophomore running back was having a modest game until he broke off a beautiful 26-yard touchdown run that could have easily been a loss of a few yards. Etienne showed off that rare blend of balance and acceleration that made him a first-round pick a few years ago. Rookie running back Tank Bigsby scored the Jags' only short rushing TD of the day and got a few opportunities in the red zone, signifying that the coaching staff may lean on the Auburn product in short-yardage situations. Etienne still out-touched the rookie 23 to 7, so fantasy managers should not be concerned about the RB1's workload. He will be a borderline top-five option next week against the Chiefs.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. A Safe RB1 Play At Indianapolis

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. will look to continue the momentum built last season after rushing for 1,125 yards and five touchdowns. Etienne wasn't a bonafide elite RB1 in fantasy drafts this offseason because the Jaguars selected Tank Bisgby in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. This raised some question marks behind Etienne's ability to be a true workhorse like he was in college. However, Etienne will still be the featured back, and against a bottom-10 rush defense last season in Indianapolis, the former Clemson standout should feast in Week 1. Bigsby might be a vulture this season, but Etienne was sneakily fifth in red zone touches among running backs last year, meaning the Jaguars do trust him in that department. The former first-round pick is a borderline RB1 against the Colts for Week 1.

  • Doug Pederson Wants Travis Etienne Jr. To Create Chunk Plays

    Headshot for Tank Bigsby

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. missed his entire rookie campaign due to injury, then impressed in 2022 with 1,441 total yards and five total touchdowns. Head coach Doug Pederson thinks he can take his game to the next level in Year 3, specifically by getting downhill faster to pick up more chunk gains. "That's the next step for him, I mean it was his rookie year," Pederson said. "You don't just hand a guy a ball and let him go run, sometimes that happens but there's that skill and ability to anticipate a hole. We always talk about speed through the hole, not to the hole type of thing. He's really embraced that this training camp. That, to me, is the next step for him and that 11-12-13, now the yards start creeping up, and maybe he's pushing 1,600-1,700 yards as a rusher." It sounds like the former Clemson running back should continue to have a huge touch share in 2023, but rookie Tank Bigsby, who has been impressing in short-yardage situations, could eat up some of the offense's goal-line work.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Impressing With His Hands

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. wasn't utilized much in the passing game a year ago -- he had 35 catches for 316 yards on 45 targets in his first NFL season -- but he has caught nearly everything thrown his way so far in training camp this summer. If Etienne is able to live up to his potential in the passing game in 2023, the Jags could have the potential to hurt opposing defenses at every level of the field on offense. Despite the obvious upside in a rising Jaguars offense, fantasy managers may want to temper expectations for the 24-year-old Etienne after Jacksonville used a third-round pick on Tank Bigsby in this year's draft. Etienne is still the best fantasy option in the Jags backfield, but expecting RB1 production is leaving yourself open to disappointment.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Expected To Be Involved More Than Ever

    Headshot for Travis Etienne

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. missed his entire inaugural campaign with a foot injury. Fortunately, he bounced back and was productive in 2022, his first active year in the league, rushing for 1,125 yards and five touchdowns off 220 carries. However, with a season under Etienne's belt, head coach Doug Pederson expects more "big plays" from the former Clemson Tiger, especially since he has his unofficial rookie season behind him. The Jaguars offense has plenty of weapons, specifically Christian Kirk, Calvin Ridley, and Evan Engram. As a result, opposing defenses won't have the luxury of making Etienne the focal point, which may allow him to be more productive for fantasy managers this season.
