  • Michael Carter's Roster Spot Secure?

    Headshot for Michael Carter

New York Jets running back Michael Carter rested in the team's preseason game last weekend, a sign that his roster spot is already secure. Meanwhile, Zonovan Knight started and played 29 snaps (11 touches) and struggled. The addition of Dalvin Cook during training surely killed most of Carter's fantasy value entering the 2023 regular season, but it won't necessarily mean that Carter will be out of a roster spot completely. The 24-year-old Carter should be on the active roster in Week 1, but he's not going to be worth rostering in the majority of fantasy leagues unless Cook or Breece Hall go down with an injury.

  • Jets Activate RB Breece Hall

    Headshot for Michael Carter

One day after making a high-profile addition to their running back corps, the Jets’ backfield is now at full strength. The team announced on Tuesday that Breece Hall has been activated from the PUP list. The long-anticipated deal sending Dalvin Cook to New York may have signaled that Hall was not as far along in his recovery as […]

  • Michael Carter Productive On Six Touches In Preseason Win

    Headshot for Michael Carter

New York Jets running back Michael Carter turned four carries into 19 rushing yards and two receptions into 34 yards in the team's 27-0 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Carter was the first back to take the field for New York and should be considered the early favorite to handle RB2 duties behind Breece Hall (knee). Four of his six touches came on the first drive alone, including a 25-yard reception off a short pass from quarterback Zach Wilson. It's worth noting that fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda also turned in an impressive performance on Saturday and could compete with Carter and Zonovan Knight for snaps in the regular season. Fantasy managers should view Carter as an interesting potential handcuff in what projects to be an explosive offense.

  • Jets Still Eyeing Dalvin Cook; Team Has Little Interest In Other RB Additions

    Headshot for Israel Abanikanda

Throughout the more recent stages of his free agent process, the Jets have been the team most closely connected to Dalvin Cook. A deal sending the veteran back to New York is still possible, but no other veterans at the position are on the team’s radar at the moment. [RELATED: Patriots Leaning Toward Elliott, Away From […]

  • Michael Carter Motivated After Down Year

    Headshot for Michael Carter

New York Jets running back Michael Carter had a strong rookie year in 2021, but by the end of his rookie season last year, he was viewed as a cautionary tale after then-rookie Breece Hall (knee) replaced him at the top of the RB depth chart. The Jets need Carter to return to the form he showed as a rookie as they cautiously work Hall back up to full speed as he recovers from last October's torn ACL. The 24-year-old knows many fans and media have written him off already, so he's motivated to prove them wrong in Year 3. The Jets have been happy with what they've seen out of Carter so far, with him taking the majority of RB reps early in training camp. Carter should be involved plenty early on with Hall being eased back in, but he's going to have to hold off impressive rookie Israel Abanikanda all year.

  • Breece Hall Lands On The PUP List

    Headshot for Israel Abanikanda

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Jets placed running back Breece Hall (knee) on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Wednesday. The 22-year-old finished his rookie season by accumulating 463 yards off 80 carries while amassing 19 catches for 219 yards. He also found the end zone five times, including running for a touchdown in four consecutive games. Unfortunately, Hall's year abruptly ended after suffering a season-ending ACL tear. The 2022 second-round pick can come off the PUP list at any time during training camp. But if Hall stays on it to start the 2023-24 campaign, he'll need to miss at least the first six weeks, meaning Michael Carter, Israel Abanikanda, and Zonovan Knight would battle for the starting job, although all three may get work.

  • Michael Carter The Favorite To Handle Backup Role

    Headshot for Michael Carter

New York Jets third-year running back Michael Carter has put together a good offseason and is the favorite, for now, to handle the backup job to Breece Hall (knee) if the Jets don't sign free agent Dalvin Cook or another veteran before training camp. Carter showed promise in his rookie season in 2021 but had a reduced role last year, carrying the ball 114 times for 402 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. He also caught 41 of 54 targets for 288 yards in 16 games (10 starts). The 24-year-old could have a decent early season role early on as the team eases Hall back into the fold, but eventually, Carter doesn't figure to be anything more than a rotational pass-catching back for the Jets. He'll also have to hold off impressive rookie Israel Abanikanda.

  • Jets Set To Hold RB2 Battle

    Headshot for Israel Abanikanda

The Jets are working with a deep, young running backs room, forcing each back to prove his mettle early and often. Michael Carter answered that call as a fourth-round rookie in 2021. Last year was supposed to be the takeover of rookie second-round pick Breece Hall, but a torn ACL ended his season after only […]
