Colts Release RB Deon Jackson

The Colts are moving on from a Week 1 starter. The team is releasing running back Deon Jackson, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Colts are filling the open roster spot with running back Trey Sermon, who will be promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. [RELATED: Colts Add RB Trey Sermon […]

The Jonathan Taylor drama has quieted down a bit since the start of the season, but by no means does that mean it isn’t there. After failing to both 1) reach a long-term agreement with Taylor and 2) find a viable trade partner willing to meet their price for Taylor, the Colts placed him on […]
Sep 23 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Jake Funk Evan Hull Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorZack Moss To Make Season Debut This Sunday

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (forearm) is off the injury report completely and will make his 2023 season debut this Sunday against the Houston Texans. After an ineffective start for the team's RBs in the Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and with rookie Evan Hull (knee) on Injured Reserve, Moss could have a shot to handle lead-back duties for Indy this weekend. Deon Jackson flopped with 13 carries for 14 yards while adding five catches for 14 yards in the season opener. He also lost two fumbles. Moss might be slightly eased back in after returning from a fractured arm in training camp, but the 25-year-old now has the most upside of Colts RBs in fantasy after he averaged 4.8 yards per carry on 76 rushing attempts for the Colts in 2022. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) isn't eligible to return from IR until Week 5.

Colts In Communication With RBs Kareem Hunt, Leonard Fournette

With their Jonathan Taylor-less backfield still in flux due to injuries, the Colts remain interested in a free agent addition at the running back spot. As a result, they are in talks with two of the top options still available. Indianapolis has communicated with both Kareem Hunt and Leonard Fournette, reports ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The former met with the […]
Sep 15 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Leonard Fournette Evan Hull Kareem Hunt Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorZack Moss Expected To Be Lead Back If Healthy

The Indianapolis Star's Nate Atkins writes that there is no question Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (forearm) will be the lead back in Week 2 against the Houston Texans if he's healthy. Moss was able to return to practice this week in full on both Wednesday and Thursday, so he appears to be ready to make his season debut this Sunday after missing the season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a fractured forearm he suffered early in training camp. Rookie Evan Hull (knee) is already on Injured Reserve and Deon Jackson had just 28 total yards on 18 touches and also fumbled twice in Week 1 as the lead back. Even though Moss figures to be the starter this weekend, he'll be more of an RB4/flex in deeper fantasy leagues in his 2023 debut.

Zack Moss At Practice Wednesday

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (forearm) is at practice on Wednesday after missing the season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moss suffered a broken arm early in training camp but is trending toward a return soon. In Week 2, the Colts draw a favorable matchup against the Houston Texans, who have struggled to contain fantasy running backs for the last few years. In Week 18 of last season, Moss rushed 18 times for 114 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for seven yards against Houston. He finished the week as the RB2 in half-PPR formats with 19.2 fantasy points. If he's ready to go for Week 2, he should be the primary ball carrier after Deon Jackson struggled immensely last week. Moss could be a strong consideration in fantasy lineups until Jonathan Taylor (ankle) returns.

Evan Hull Lands On Injured Reserve

The Indianapolis Colts placed rookie running back Evan Hull (knee) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and signed running back Jake Funk to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Hull had just one carry for one yard and had a six-yard reception in his NFL debut in the Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars before getting injured. The fifth-rounder will now have to miss at least the next four games. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list and won't be eligible to return until Week 5. Zack Moss (forearm) missed Week 1 but could return this Sunday against the Houston Texans. Moss will be Indy's starter until Taylor returns, with Deon Jackson also getting some run out of the backfield.

Deon Jackson Struggles On The Run Versus Jags

Indianapolis Colts running back Deon Jackson finished with 13 carries for 14 yards during the loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. The 24-year-old was not as productive on the ground as Anthony Richardson, who had 10 touches for 40 yards. However, he at least had five catches for 14 yards, so things could have gone much worse. In any event, Jackson's reign as the No. 1 option may last just a few more weeks. Zack Moss (forearm) might be back soon, and there's also a chance Jonathan Taylor (ankle) could return sooner rather than later. That said, Jackson needs to prove he can be a reliable runner. Until then, fantasy managers should only start him in deep PPR formats moving forward.

Zack Moss Officially Inactive Sunday

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (forearm) is officially inactive for Week 1 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was expected after the team downgraded him to doubtful over the weekend. Deon Jackson is expected to start in his absence and should be viewed as an RB3/FLEX in fantasy football. Rookie Evan Hull will see some touches, too.

Zack Moss Officially Questionable For Week 1

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) is listed as questionable for Week 1 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was limited in practice all week long. At this point, Moss' status is up in the air, and he could be a true game-time decision. If Moss does play, he's expected to operate in a committee that also features Deon Jackson and Evan Hull, making it hard to trust any of the three in fantasy football. However, if Moss isn't able to suit up, Jackson could be a low-end RB3/FLEX given his experience and pass-catching upside.

Offseason In Review: Indianapolis Colts

The Colts’ stunning 2021 season-ender in Jacksonville seems does not exactly seem like it occurred 20 months ago. So much has changed since. Although the batch of Pro Bowlers (minus one well-documented exception) from that talented team remains ahead of the 2023 season, they have observed a chaotic overhaul in the time since that crushing […]

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) will practice on Wednesday. The Colts said earlier this week that Moss was progressing nicely from a broken right arm that he suffered early in training camp, and while he remains up in the air for the Week 1 regular season opener this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, it's a positive sign that the 25-year-old is getting back on the practice field. The Colts could still opt to play it safe with Moss and hold him out this weekend, but when he's ready, he will be serving as the team's lead back until Jonathan Taylor (ankle) comes off the Physically Unable to Perform list. If Moss doesn't play this Sunday, Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull will likely share backfield duties.

Latest On Colts' Backfield; Team Worked Out James Robinson

With Jonathan Taylor sitting on the reserve/PUP list for at least the first four games of the 2023 campaign, the Colts backfield is plenty uncertain heading into Week 1. With Zack Moss also nursing an arm injury, it sounds like even the Colts don’t know who will lead the team in carries to start the […]
Sep 6 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Evan Hull Deon Jackson Zack Moss James Robinson Jonathan TaylorZack Moss Progressing Well

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that running back Zack Moss (arm) was at the team's walkthrough practice on Monday and is "progressing well" ahead of the Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It's unknown how much exactly Moss did on Monday, though, and he should still be considered very questionable for the first week of the regular season. But even if he sits out in Week 1, it seems likely that Moss will return for a Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans. If the 25-year-old doesn't play this weekend, Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull will likely split the backfield work against Jacksonville. When healthy, Moss is expected to be Indy's lead rusher until Jonathan Taylor (ankle) returns from the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Colts GM Chris Ballard Addresses Jonathan Taylor Situation

With roster cutdown day having come and gone, Jonathan Taylor remains with the Colts for at least the time being. As a result, the 2021 rushing champion and the team still have time to find a way to continue their relationship, something general manager Chris Ballard recently spoke about. Indianapolis granted Taylor permission to seek out a trade partner, […]
Sep 3 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorZack Moss Could Potentially Return In Week 2

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (forearm) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from surgery and could be back in Week 2 against the Houston Texans or Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens, at the latest. The fourth-year running back broke his forearm in late July and underwent surgery but has recovered quicker than expected. Deon Jackson will be the starting running back in Week 1 for the Colts and is a low-end RB3 option against the Jaguars. Once Moss returns to action, he and Jackson will share the workload until Jonathan Taylor (PUP) returns to the team.

Zack Moss Trending In The Right Direction

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) suffered a broken arm on July 31 that required offseason surgery. However, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said the 25-year-old running back's recovery is going well. "He's trending in the right direction," Steichen said. "Hopefully he'll be out there Week 1." If healthy, Moss is expected to be the lead back in the absence of Jonathan Taylor (ankle) who is on the Physically Unable to Perform list and will be out for at least four games. That said, Moss' upside could be mightily limited by a poor overall offense. Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will also likely vulture rushing touchdowns near the goal line. If Moss misses Week 1, Deon Jackson and Evan Hull are expected to split backfield duties.

Zack Moss Still Not Practicing

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) still isn't practicing, but he also doesn't have a brace/cast on his right arm and was seen throwing and catching with his injured right arm on Thursday. Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is starting the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list and will miss the first four games. When healthy, Moss is the likely starter for the Colts, but we just don't know yet if he'll be available for the season opener on Sept. 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. If the 25-year-old isn't ready to go, Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull will split the backfield duties in Week 1. Only fantasy managers in deep leagues should be considering drafting anyone in the Colts backfield not named Taylor.

Zack Moss Likely The Starter If Healthy

With Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) set to miss the first four games of the 2023 regular season while on the Physically Unable to Perform list, Zack Moss (arm) is the likely starter when he returns from a broken right arm he suffered early in training camp. His recovery is lined up almost exactly with the team's season opener in Week 1, so he could be available to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 10. However, even if the 25-year-old is active in Week 1, Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull are expected to be involved, making all three RBs tough to rely on in fantasy outside of the deepest leagues. Moss had surgery on his arm on Aug. 1 and was expected to be sidelined four to six weeks.

Aug 8 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Kenyan Drake Deon Jackson Zack Moss Jonathan TaylorZack Moss Has Surgery Tuesday

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) had surgery on his broken arm on Tuesday, according to a source. Moss will need around six weeks before he can return to action, which is right around Week 1 of the regular season. The 25-year-old finished last year with 334 yards and 4.8 yards per carry over his final four games with the Colts after being acquired from the Buffalo Bills in a midseason trade. Before his arm injury in training camp this week, he was on track to contribute right away in 2023 as a complement to Jonathan Taylor (ankle). With both Moss and Taylor unable to practice, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, Jake Funk and Zavier Scott are going to see increased opportunities to prove themselves in camp and the preseason. When both players are fully healthy, Moss will be the primary handcuff option for fantasy managers that take a chance on the injured and disgruntled Taylor as an RB1.

Colts Sign Toriano Clinton To Add Depth To RB Room

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss suffered a broken arm on Monday, while star running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is feuding with Colts owner Jim Irsay. To add depth to the position, the team signed former Indianapolis University running back Toriano Clinton. The undrafted rookie posted 4,538 rushing yards and 48 rushing touchdowns on 593 attempts in five collegiate seasons. While his name won't be on the fantasy radar for now, it wouldn't be all that surprising if he climbs the depth chart in Moss' and Taylor's absence. For now, Deon Jackson and fifth-round rookie Evan Hull will likely operate as the team's top two running backs.

Jul 31 · Pro Football Rumors Colts Zack MossZack Moss Suffers Broken Arm, Expected To Miss Six Weeks

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (arm) suffered a broken arm at training camp practice on Monday, according to a source. He's expected to miss around six weeks. It's brutal news for Indy's backfield with Jonathan Taylor (ankle, back) also out and requesting a trade over the weekend. Moss will now be very iffy for the start of the regular season and will miss out on valuable repetitions in camp and the preseason after coming to the Colts at midseason of last year in a trade. An already thin Colts backfield just got a lot thinner, with Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, Jake Funk and Zavier Scott the only current healthy RBs on the roster. When healthy, Moss is expected to serve as Taylor's primary backup in 2023.

Zack Moss Injures Wrist Monday

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss (wrist) slammed his helmet down and grabbed his wrist after a rushing repetition during 11-on-11 work on Monday. Moss eventually left the practice field at training camp with a couple of the team's trainers. It's unclear exactly how serious the injury is, but it's something we'll be keeping an eye on this week. With all of the drama surrounding lead back Jonathan Taylor, Moss' health, and the rest of the Colts' backfield, has added importance during training camp and the preseason. Behind Taylor and Moss, the Colts have a lot of inexperience in rookie Evan Hull, Jake Funk an Deon Jackson. The 25-year-old Moss looked good in eight games with Indy last year and is the favorite to be Taylor's primary backup in 2023.
