Fantasy Advice
The safest RB on the board this time last year crashed and burned for fantasy owners due to injuries - something Taylor never suffered in his career before last season - and a flop of an offense. New coaching staff, new rookie QB who should be starting sooner than later, but is raw and a runner. I'm not super excited to acquire Taylor but I won't shy away from him either. Top tier talent, this seems like a good spot to get your RB1 who should receive and can handle a large workload.

No Practice For Jonathan Taylor Wednesday

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) is still missing from practice on Wednesday. Taylor had thumb surgery on Nov. 29 and missed his first game in Week 13's overtime win over the Tennessee Titans. He's highly unlikely practice or play in Week 14 against the Bengals in Cincinnati this Sunday. The 24-year-old was given a three- to five-week timetable to return from his thumb injury. Fantasy managers should keep Taylor stashed, but he still might not be able to return in time to help you potentially make a run at that coveted fantasy title in 2023. In the meantime, Zack Moss will have RB2 upside in fantasy lineups as Indianapolis' lead back. Moss will have upside this week against a suspect Bengals run defense.

Colts Not Ruling Out Jonathan Taylor

When asked if it's safe to say that Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) will miss a second straight game in Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals, head coach Shane Steichen said, "We'll see." Steichen also said he didn't have any updates on Taylor after he had surgery last week on a thumb injury he suffered in Week 12. The 24-year-old was given a three- to five-week timetable after surgery, so it's highly unlikely Taylor is even in consideration to play this Sunday. Taylor should still be stashed in fantasy leagues in case he recovers quicker than expected, but Zack Moss should be expected to once again carry the load in Indy's backfield in Week 14 against a Bengals defense that is vulnerable against the run.

Jonathan Taylor Expected To Miss 3-5 Weeks

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) will likely miss three to five weeks after undergoing surgery, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The star playmaker had recently been diagnosed with a UCL tear in his right thumb, which was treated with an internal brace during his recent operation. Until he's able to return, Zack Moss will lead the Colts' backfield. Over his four games as the Colts' lead running back earlier this season, Moss was dominant, totaling 445 rushing yards, 74 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. For fantasy purposes, he instantly becomes a solid RB2 option.

Jonathan Taylor Officially Ruled Out

The Indianapolis Colts officially ruled out running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) for the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans after he underwent surgery on his injured thumb on Wednesday. There's no firm timetable on Taylor, but he's expected to miss somewhere between two to three weeks. The Colts are not considering placing him on Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. Fantasy managers must stash the 24-year-old and hope that he's back to full speed in a couple of weeks for postseason play in fantasy formats. With Taylor out, Zack Moss will have RB2 upside in fantasy lineups as Indy's lead back. Trey Sermon will serve as his backup, starting this Sunday against the Titans.

Jonathan Taylor Undergoing Thumb Surgery Wednesday

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) will undergo surgery on his injured right thumb on Wednesday, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Steichen isn't sure how much time Taylor will miss, but he said he hoped the 2021 All-Pro would be back sooner than later, depending on how his rehab process goes. Injured Reserve is not being considered for Taylor, which means he should be able to return in two to three weeks. The biggest concerns for Taylor with the injury are ball security and pass protection. Fantasy managers will need to keep Taylor stashed for now. In the meantime, Zack Moss will serve as Indy's lead back with Trey Sermon backing him up. Moss has 672 rushing yards (10th among RBs) and is averaging almost five yards per carry in 2023.

Jonathan Taylor To Have Surgery, Hoping To Return In 2-3 Weeks

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) will undergo thumb surgery on Wednesday in Los Angeles with the hope that he can return in two to three weeks, according to owner Jim Irsay. We haven't received any other specific details on the nature of Taylor's thumb injury, but it's obviously serious enough to sideline him for at least a couple of weeks. The 24-year-old is coming off a two-touchdown performance in the Week 12 win over the Tampa Buccaneers and has dominated Indy's backfield touches the last four weeks, so it's a big loss for fantasy managers with only several more weeks until the playoffs begin in most leagues. Zack Moss, who was the lead back in Weeks 2-4 with Taylor on the PUP list due to an ankle injury, will now take over primary RB duties for the Colts and will have RB2 upside this weekend against the Tennessee Titans.

Jonathan Taylor Could Go On Injured Reserve

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb) could end up on Injured Reserve after suffering an apparent thumb injury in the Week 12 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Taylor showed no signs of being injured during or directly after the game, but according to Stephen Holder of ESPN, it's a legitimate injury that could sideline him for an extended period of time. Zack Moss becomes a high-priority waiver add, as he was an RB1 in fantasy football through the first six weeks of the season with Taylor out or limited.

Jonathan Taylor's Status In Doubt Going Forward

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (thumb), who had a 91-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Week 12 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, suffered a thumb injury that is requiring further evaluation and puts his status in doubt going forward, according to sources. We'll get you up to speed when we know more on the condition of Taylor's thumb, but fantasy managers already scrambling for players not on bye in Week 13 will want to check to see if Zack Moss is available on your league's waiver wire. At best, Taylor should be considered up in the air to play this Sunday against the division-rival Tennessee Titans, and depending on what tests show on his thumb, he could be forced to miss additional time beyond this week. It could be a big blow to the Colts and to fantasy managers hoping to get into the playoffs.

Jonathan Taylor Looking To Keep High Volume In Week 12

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has begun to take control over Indy's backfield over the past few weeks. In his last game action in Week 10, Taylor saw 24 opportunities for 75 total yards, while also scoring a touchdown in the team's 10-6 win against the New England Patriots. He now faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense in Week 12 who have been pretty stout against the run. They currently allow 90 rushing yards per game, good for the fifth least in the league. Despite the tougher matchup, Taylor's volume makes him a worthy start in most formats. Fantasy managers should look to include Taylor as an RB2 for Sunday's matchup.

Jonathan Taylor Sees 23 Carries And Scores In Week 10 Win

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor assumed bell cow duties for Indy in their 10-6 win against the New England Patriots. Taylor ran the ball 23 times for 69 yards, as well as scoring the team's lone touchdown. He also reeled in his only target on the day for an additional six yards through the air. Taylor took complete control of the rushing game for Indy, seeing 24 total opportunities to fellow running back Zack Moss' one. Taylor and the Colts will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12 after they go on bye in Week 11, and he should be included in all lineups for that contest.

Jonathan Taylor Eyeing An RB1 Outing In Week 10

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had a solid outing in the team's Week 9 against the Carolina Panthers. Taylor ran the ball 18 times for 46 yards, while also catching a ten-yard touchdown pass through the air. Taylor has begun to regain control of the Colts' backfield, gaining 23 opportunities to fellow running back Zack Moss' seven. With his opportunities on the rise, he's a strong start in Week 10 despite a tougher matchup against the New England Patriots. Despite their strong run defense, they have allowed the 14th most points to opposing fantasy running backs this season. As his volume continues to be on the rise, the former rushing champion is a sure-fire starter in Week 10.

Jonathan Taylor Finds The End Zone In Week 9 Win

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gardner Minshew in the team's 27-13 win against the Carolina Panthers. Taylor had a modest day on the ground, carrying the ball 18 times for 47 yards. Taylor also added to his fantasy tally by reeling in all five targets for an additional 22 yards in the air. It's worth noting Taylor out-touched fellow running back Zack Moss by a 23 to seven margin, the biggest disparity between the two backs since Taylor's return in Week 5. The fourth-year back will look to carry the momentum into Week 10 when the Colts square off against a stiff New England Patriots run defense.

Jonathan Taylor An RB1 Option In Week 9

Indianapolis Colts running back is coming off a strong outing in the team's Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Taylor ran the ball 12 times for 95 yards and reeled in one of his two targets on the day. While it looks like the former rushing champion is getting back to form, fellow running back Zack Moss (heel) has stayed equally involved in the backfield up to this point. Despite Moss being removed from the team's most recent injury report, Taylor is still in line for a large workload when Indy faces off against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers' defense has been kind to opposing fantasy running backs, allowing the second-most points of any team to the position. On top of that, Carolina is allowing the fourth-most rushing yards to teams this season. Indy will look to rely heavily on the run game against a stingy Panthers' pass defense, elevating Taylor to an RB1 for the matchup.

Jonathan Taylor Potentially Eyeing A Bigger Workload In Week 8

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is coming off his best performance of the 2023 season. He carried the ball 18 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in the team's 39-38 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Now, with fellow running back Zack Moss (elbow, heel) questionable for Sunday's matchup, Taylor could see his highest volume output of the season so far. The New Orleans Saints defense does provide a tough matchup for Taylor, as they have allowed the fourth least points per game to opposing fantasy running backs this season. That being said, Taylor can still be considered an RB1 candidate if Moss can't go and is viewed as an RB2 if Moss is active for Sunday's matchup.

Oct 17 · Pro Football Rumors Indianapolis Colts Gardner Minshew Zack Moss Anthony Richardson Jonathan TaylorJonathan Taylor To Be Ramped Up In Week 6

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that running back Jonathan Taylor will be ramped up more in his second game of the year in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Taylor missed the first four weeks of the regular season while on the Physically Unable to Perform list for an ankle injury that required offseason surgery. In his 2023 debut in the Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans, he played just 10 offensive snaps and took a back seat to Zack Moss. Taylor saw six carries for 18 yards and caught his only target for 16 yards. Moss isn't going to just go away, especially if he continues to be efficient, but the 24-year-old Taylor should eventually gain control of this backfield in Indy.

Oct 10 · Pro Football Rumors Indianapolis Colts Jonathan TaylorJonathan Taylor A Non-Factor In Season Debut

After a long offseason of contract negotiations and a stint on the Physically Unable to Perform List, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) made his 2023 debut in Sunday's 23-16 win against the Tennessee Titans. However, Taylor was primarily not involved in Sunday's win, carrying the ball only six times for 18 yards. The 2021 rushing yard leader took a backseat to fellow backfield member running back Zack Moss , who toted the ball 23 times in Sunday's contest. It is still being determined how long the Colts intend on keeping Taylor limited in his return from injury. Still, fantasy managers should pay close attention to any incoming announcements made by HC Shane Steichen ahead of their matchup in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Barring any additional insight from the Colts coaching staff, fantasy managers can look to include Taylor as an RB2 in that matchup.

Jonathan Taylor, Zack Moss To Split Snaps Sunday

Indianapolis Colts running backs Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss are expected to split snaps in Week 5 versus the Tennessee Titans, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Taylor is a mid-range fantasy RB2 while Moss is a fine RB3/FLEX play this week.

Jonathan Taylor Signs Three-Year, $42 Million Extension With The Colts

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has signed a three-year, $42 million contract extension with the team, according to Adam Schefter. The 24-year-old back gets $26.5 million guaranteed as part of the deal. This marks the first time since 2021 that a running back has received a long-term deal worth more than $10 million per year (Nick Chubb), Schefter noted. This deal also makes Taylor the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL behind San Francisco's Christian McCaffrey and New Orleans' Alvin Kamara. Taylor will now hit free agency in 2026 when he is 27, which gives him a path to signing another lucrative deal if he continues his stellar play. The former Wisconsin Badger was also activated off the PUP list and will make his 2023 debut on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. It's a good day to be Jonathan Taylor.

Jonathan Taylor Removed From Injury Report, Will Play Sunday

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) has been removed from the injury report after being activated from the PUP list earlier this week. That means all systems are a go for Taylor, who missed the first four weeks of the season with an ankle injury, to play in Week 5. There's a good chance that the 24-year-old back could be on a snap count and he will likely share the Colts' backfield with Zack Moss, who has carried the load well in Taylor's absence. It's also a tough matchup against Tennessee's pass-funnel defense but if you have Taylor on your roster, he should be in your starting lineup on Sunday. Injuries limited Taylor to just 11 games last season when he put up 1004 total yards on 220 touches to go along with four touchdowns. However, in 2021, he was arguably the fantasy MVP when he compiled 2171 total yards and 12 touchdowns on 372 touches.

Jonathan Taylor Questionable To Play In Week 5

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) was a full participant in practice this week but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans. Taylor is still on the PUP list, but if he's activated, that will be a very strong indication that the team expects him to play. Tennessee has a solid run defense and Taylor might need a week or two before he's back to full game speed, but the 24-year-old should still be started in most fantasy leagues. He's a fantasy RB2 with immediate RB1 upside.

The Colts opened the 21-day window on Wednesday to activate Taylor from the Physically Unable to Perform list, but it still remains to be seen if he'll officially be activated in order to make his season debut in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. The 24-year-old said he is physically ready after having right-ankle surgery in January and missing all of the offseason program, training camp and the first four weeks of the regular season. Taylor appears committed to playing for Indy despite his trade request in August, and he should eventually be their bell-cow back. However, he'll be a risky fantasy play this weekend if he's active because of the possibility that the Colts ease him back in.

Jonathan Taylor Physically Ready To Play

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) said he is physically ready to play after missing the first four games of the season while on the Physically Unable to Perform list. "It feels really good to be healthy. The main goal was to be healthy and play football," Taylor said in his first public comments since June. The 24-year-old had surgery on his ankle early in 2023 and missed the entire offseason program, training camp and the preseason, so there's a good chance he'll be eased into the offense whenever he makes his season debut. The Colts opened the 21-day window to activate Taylor from the PUP list this week, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be active in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts have opened the 21-day window to activate Taylor from Injured Reserve, and he could make his 2023 debut this weekend against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. The 24-year-old's chances of being active this weekend will improve if he can continue to practice in full on Thursday and Friday. But even if Taylor is active against the Titans on Sunday, the Colts could opt to ease him into the offense after he missed the entire offseason, training camp, the preseason and the first four weeks of the regular season. Still, the fact that he's back at practice this week is good news for fantasy managers that took the leap on him in drafts.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) will practice for the first time this year on Wednesday, and there's a chance he could make his 2023 debut this Sunday in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. Taylor last played in an NFL game last Dec. 17 before a lingering right-ankle injury forced him to Injured Reserve. The Colts have opened Taylor's 21-day window to return from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Jonathan Taylor To Practice Wednesday

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is expected to practice on Wednesday. The former rushing champion began the 2023 season on the PUP list after an offseason full of drama, including a public dispute with team owner Jim Irsay and a trade request. However, it appears Taylor is going to return and play for the Colts. If he is active for the game against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4, he'll face a tough matchup with a defense that has not allowed a running back to surpass 67 rushing yards through four weeks. He also could be eased back into action and begin the season on a snap limit. Ultimately, some fantasy managers will still want to roll the dice on him, as running back production is often scarce in fantasy football.

Jonathan Taylor To Begin 21-Day Practice Window

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) will have his 21-day practice window opened following the conclusion of Week 4, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. At any point when a player is eligible to return from the PUP list, the team can trigger their practice window, giving them 21 days to activate the player or rule the player out for the rest of the season. Assuming the Colts don't want to sideline Taylor for the year, it's looking like he'll return sometime over the next three weeks. Rapoport notes that Taylor is "fully healthy," which means he could be back sooner rather than later. He also writes that "there have been no recent trade talks between the Colts and other teams" surrounding Taylor, who voiced his displeasure with ownership and requested a trade this past summer.
