  • Brett Rypien Does Little In Loss To Jets

As expected, Denver Broncos backup quarterback Brett Rypien didn't light up the box score in the 16-9 loss to the New York Jets in Week 7 with Russell Wilson (hamstring) sidelined. Rypien finished the game 24-for-46 for 225 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He was sacked one time and carried the ball three times for just nine yards. Nobody was expecting Rypien to be a savior for a Broncos offense that entered the weekend as the lowest-scoring unit in football. But he was able to keep the Broncos in the game against a surging Jets team and led a potential game-tying drive that fell just short in the fourth quarter. It remains to be seen if Wilson will return from a partially torn hamstring for the London game in Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but if Rypien makes another start, he'll be nothing more than a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues.

  • Brett Rypien A Desperation QB2 Option In Week 7

Denver Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien will make the start in Week 7 against the New York Jets with Russell Wilson (hamstring) being ruled out. It will be Rypien's second career start, with his first coming in 2020 against the same Jets. Denver's offense ranks dead last in points per game entering Week 7, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect Rypien to come in and suddenly be a savior. The 26-year-old should only be an option for fantasy managers that are desperate for a warm body in two-QB superflex leagues. The Jets defense/special teams, on the hand, will be a popular streaming option this weekend. We wouldn't blame fantasy managers for outright benching all of Denver's offensive skill players, including top receiver Courtland Sutton.

  • Russell Wilson Won't Play In Week 7, Brett Rypien To Start

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson (hamstring) will be held out of the Week 7 game against the New York Jets to allow him to heal and prevent a lingering injury, according to sources. The nine-time Pro Bowler wanted to play and did everything he could to be ready for Sunday, but head coach Nathaniel Hackett wants to play it safe. Brett Rypien will make his second career start this weekend. It's more bad news for a Broncos offense that ranks dead last in points per game (15.2) through six weeks. The 33-year-old Wilson hasn't looked like himself at all, throwing for 1,442 yards and only five touchdowns in six games. With Rypien now under center for at least this week, fantasy managers need to downgrade all of Denver's offensive skill players, mainly receiver Courtland Sutton.

  • Broncos Preparing Brett Rypien Just In Case

Denver Broncos backup quarterback Brett Rypien took most of the walkthrough repetitions at practice on Wednesday, according to sources. It doesn't mean that Russell Wilson (hamstring) won't start in Week 7 against the New York Jets, it just means that the Broncos are getting Rypien ready just in case Wilson cannot go on Sunday. Rypien has made one NFL start in his career against the Jets in 2020. Wilson had an MRI exam on Tuesday after tweaking his hamstring in the Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but the results didn't show any structural damage and he was limited in Wednesday's practice. Barring a setback, the 33-year-old should have a good shot at playing against the Jets, although he's fallen off the QB1 radar due to a rough start in his first six games in Denver.
