Fantasy Advice
The difference between T.J. Hockenson with the Lions and the Vikings last season isn't as significant as I thought. Weeks 1-8 (Lions), TE4 at 10.1 PPG. Weeks 9-17 (Vikings), TE2 at 10.9. Good. Definitely improved, thanks to Kirk Cousins peppering Hockenson with targets. He went from 43 first half to 85 second half, but his yards per reception dropped from 15.2 to 8.5. The addition of a good second receiver in rookie Jordan Addison, and K.J. Osborn still around as a team's more suitable WR3, has me not overly excited about Hockenson for fantasy. Ranked appropriately as TE3, but still pricey to draft.

T.J. Hockenson An Elite Option Versus Chargers

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to build off his two-touchdown performance against the Eagles in Week 2, as the Vikings take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Hockenson is positioned for another strong outing in this one, as the Vikings figure to keep up their pass-happy offense against the Chargers' secondary that has allowed the most passing yards this year. The former Detroit Lion has been the clear No. 2 option behind Justin Jefferson during his time in Minnesota, so fantasy managers can treat him as an elite TE1 on a weekly basis.

T.J. Hockenson Nets Two Touchdowns Despite Loss

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson came down with 7-of-8 targets for 66 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday's 34-28 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old made a couple of nice grabs during a second-quarter drive, topped off with a tackle-breaking five-yard score to get Minnesota on the board after their lethargic first period. Hockenson wasn't turned to much, until another three-catch 39-yard series saw him hit paydirt once more on Minnesota's final drive of the evening. The two-time Pro Bowler has now collected 15-of-17 targets across his first two contests, picking up right where he left after pacing for a 100-catch season upon landing with the Vikings last year. Hockenson is a high-end TE1 in Minny's pass-centric offense for Week 3's date with the Los Angeles Chargers.

T.J. Hockenson - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson finished second on his team with eight receptions in a Week 1 loss, but he only turned those catches into 35 receiving yards. He will look to get more done down the field in Week 2's Thursday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles allowed New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry to log a big game in Week 1 as he finished with five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Hockenson is on the board as a top-four fantasy TE for Week 2.

T.J. Hockenson Hauls In Eight Catches In Season Opener

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson ended up in the top three fantasy scorers at the position through Sunday's afternoon games. He finished with eight catches on nine targets and 35 yards but failed to find the endzone. PPR leagues made Hockenson's performance look better than it actually was as he only averaged 4.4 yards per catch. Overall, the week was rough for tight ends and Hockenson at least found a way to score some fantasy points. He'll move forward to Week 2 to face a tougher defense in the Philadelphia Eagles.

T.J. Hockenson An Elite TE1 Option Versus Buccaneers

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson will look to build on his strong finish to the 2022 season after being acquired by the Vikings midseason from the Detroit Lions. In 10 games after being traded, the 26-year-old posted 60 receptions on 86 targets for 519 yards and three touchdowns. Hockenson has cemented himself as an elite option at a thin TE position due to his undeniable talent and the fact that he is a big part of a pass-heavy offense. The Iowa product is a must-start in all formats against a Bucs' defense that allowed 29 passing touchdowns a season ago. Fantasy managers can treat Hockenson as a high-end TE1.

T.J. Hockenson Not On Week 1 Injury Report

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (back) wasn't listed on the team's first official injury report on Wednesday heading into a Week 1 meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Hockenson had an injury-filled training camp with an ear infection and a lower-back ailment, but he's fully healthy heading into this weekend and will be a must-start, high-upside TE1 in Minnesota's pass-happy offense as long as he's on the field. Rookie first-round receiver Jordan Addison will take away some targets this year, but the 26-year-old tight end is still a top-three fantasy tight end. After being acquired from the Detroit Lions at midseason in 2022, Hockenson put up 60 receptions on 86 targets for 519 yards and three scores in 10 games for the Vikes.

Vikings, T.J. Hockenson Agree On Extension

11:01am: This move, in fact, will lead to Hockenson becoming the NFL’s highest-paid tight end. The Vikings are giving their starter a four-year, $68.5MM deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. That will make the AAV $17.13MM, which checks in just north of Waller’s previous position record. Hockenson’s guarantees dwarf Waller’s, however, with Schefter adding this extension […]
Aug 31 · Pro Football Rumors Vikings T.J. HockensonVikings Expect T.J. Hockenson To Be Available For Week 1

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said he feels "very good" about tight end T.J. Hockenson's (back, ear) availability for Week 1 of the regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hockenson, who also signed a massive extension to become one of the league's highest-paid tight ends on Thursday, has missed most of training camp drills due to an ear infection and lower-back stiffness. The missed time is a bit of a concern, but as long as he's ready to go for Week 1, fantasy managers shouldn't really have any hesitations about taking him as a top-five TE1 in upcoming drafts. After coming over in a trade from the Detroit Lions last fall, the 26-year-old caught 60 passes for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games for Minnesota.

Vikings, T.J. Hockenson Agree On Contract Extension

The Minnesota Vikings and tight end T.J. Hockenson agreed to terms on a contract extension on Thursday that makes him one of the league's highest-paid tight ends, according to sources. The Vikings acquired Hockenson from the Detroit Lions last fall, and he excelled in 10 games with the team, catching 60 passes for 519 yards and three touchdowns on 86 targets. The eighth overall pick in the 2019 draft out of Iowa set career-highs in receptions (86) and receiving yards (914) in 2022 and enters the 2023 campaign as an easy top-five fantasy tight end in a pass-happy offense in Minnesota. The 26-year-old missed some time with an ear infection and a back injury, but there are no indications that he'll be in danger of missing Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Offseason In Review: Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings rode another dominant Justin Jefferson season to one of the most improbable 13-win showings in NFL history. After going 13-4 with a negative point differential, Minnesota completed a bit of a retooling effort. Some Mike Zimmer-era mainstays and standouts who helped Kevin O’Connell‘s first team are gone. Aug 25 · Pro Football Rumors Vikings T.J. HockensonVikings, T.J. Hockenson Far Apart In Contract Talks

The Minnesota Vikings and tight end T.J. Hockenson are far apart on a long-term contract extension, according to league sources. Hockenson wants to reset the market with a historic contract extension for tight ends and is heading into the final year of a four-year, $19.82 million deal. The two-time Pro Bowler has missed most of training camp with an ear infection and now back soreness, but he's not expected to be out for much longer. After being acquired from the Detroit Lions at midseason in 2022, Hockenson had 60 receptions for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games for the Vikings. He was targeted more than all but six pass-catchers in the NFL in the final weeks of last season. If fully healthy, the 26-year-old is a top-five TE1 in fantasy. If they don't sign him to an extension, Hockenson could be a candidate for the franchise tag next March.

T.J. Hockenson Day-To-Day With Back Stiffness

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (back), who has been dealing with an ear infection during training camp, missed most of practice on Wednesday with lower-back stiffness. Hockenson's ear infection has gotten better, but now he's dealing with a back injury that has him listed as day-to-day. The Vikings aren't ruling out a return for Hockenson as early as Thursday for a joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals. "We're at that time," head coach Kevin O'Connell said, "where we just want to be smart with guys we know we're going to be relying on and make sure that their preparation for [the regular season] is what we want." As long as the 26-year-old is ready to roll for Week 1 of the regular season, fantasy managers should consider him a top-five tight end in Minnesota's pass-happy offense.

T.J. Hockenson Does More At Practice

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ear) was doing a little more in Tuesday's training camp practice and looked fluid, according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis. Hockenson has been limited in practices since earlier this month due to what he's calling an ear infection. It's something worth watching, but the 26-year-old looks to be improving and should be just fine for the start of the 2023 regular season in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Vikings added first-round receiver Jordan Addison to their passing attack this year, but Hockenson should remain heavily involved in this pass-happy offense heading into his first full year with the team. Fantasy managers should consider him a top-five tight end.

T.J. Hockenson Remains Limited With Ear Infection

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ear) has been limited in training camp practices since Aug. 3 with what he's calling an ear infection. There's still plenty of time for Hockenson to get past his ear infection before the start of the regular season, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on his progress at training camp. It remains to be seen if the 26-year-old will play in Minnesota's preseason finale on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. Hockenson was acquired midseason from the Detroit Lions in 2022 and finished with 60 catches (86 targets) for 519 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games (seven starts) with the Vikings. As long as he's healthy, he's a top-five fantasy tight end in Minnesota's pass-happy offense.

T.J. Hockenson Battling Ear Infection

According to ESPN's Kevin Seifert, Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (illness) has battled an ear infection since training camp began. The 26-year-old hasn't practiced much, recently prompting speculation that he would participate in a limited capacity while seeking a new deal. However, that doesn't appear to be the case, with Hockenson reporting the ailment has impacted his equilibrium. The 2019 No. 8 overall pick is coming off a productive year, totaling 86 catches for 924 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games with the Lions and Vikings. The issue seems to be clearing up, so it's unlikely to keep Hockenson out of the lineup for Week 1, assuming things continue to trend in a favorable direction. But unless fantasy managers hear something negative about his health, he remains a top option at the tight end position heading into the 2023-24 campaign, regardless of his contract situation.

T.J. Hockenson Misses Saturday's Practice

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson did not suit up for practice on Saturday. There have been rumors of Hockenson possibly sitting out until he gets a new deal. The 26-year-old is set to play under his fifth-year option and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. It's uncertain whether his absence was injury or contract related. It's worth noting that he wasn't in pads and present on the sideline. Possibly, it was just a rest day for Hockenson. Fantasy managers will have to wait and see what comes of this.
