  • Jonathan Gannon Addresses Kyler Murray's Return Timeline

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

All-Decade-teamers Adrian Peterson and Chris Harris rebounded from late-season ACL tears by Week 1 en route to All-Pro honors. More recently, Seahawks linebacker Jordyn Brooks made his way back from a New Year’s Day tear to start in Week 1. But these major knee are different, producing asymmetrical recovery timelines. Kyler Murray is now more […]

  • Cardinals HC: As Long As I'm Here, Kyler Murray Can Be Here

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Back in February, newly-hired Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said he would not have taken the job if not for the presence of quarterback Kyler Murray, and he discussed his plans to maximize Murray’s talents. Murray, who was one of the players consulted in Arizona’s HC search, has likewise spoken highly of Gannon. Of course, […]

  • Kyler Murray Could Return Midseason

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) could return around midseason, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. The team is reportedly "pleased with the work ethic, rehab, and study habits" of its star quarterback as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last season. When Murray returns, he'll be a fantasy QB1 while also elevating the stock of his teammates. For the time being, though, Arizona's outlook is bleak as Joshua Dobbs opens the season at quarterback.

  • Kyler Murray Expected To Play This Season

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

After Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will play when healthy, he told a local Arizona radio station on Tuesday that Murray will suit up this season. The Cardinals' quarterback tore his ACL in Week 14 against the New England Patriots and will begin the 2023 season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. He will miss at least the first four games of the year and remains without a set timetable. With an expected return later this season, Murray is a great fantasy quarterback stash in all formats.

  • Cardinals Plan To Play Kyler Murray When He Is Healthy

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) suffered a torn ACL in December of the 2022 season and is beginning the 2023 campaign on the PUP (Physically Unable To Perform) list. There's been speculation that the Cardinals will hold him out of games even when he does return to full health, but Kyle Odegard reports the franchise will play him when he's cleared. Murray was recently named a team captain for 2023 and reportedly has full support from the new coaching staff and front office in Arizona. Murray still has no targeted return date, and it remains to be seen if the Cardinals will still be interested in starting him if the team has a poor record when he's fully healed. For fantasy football, he's an intriguing bench stash for late-season upside.

  • Cardinals To Keep Kyler Murray Out All Year?

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

The Arizona Cardinals have a legitimate business reason for keeping quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) off the field for the entire 2023 season. Murray has millions in injury guarantees that will become fully guaranteed in the not-too-distant future. If a player can't pass a physical on the date the guarantees convert, the team cannot avoid the financial commitment. If Arizona is contemplating a future without Murray, it makes good business sense to keep him on the Physically Unable to Perform list the entire season. A trade after 2023 would shift much of Murray's money to a new team, but they might not want to take on nearly $67 million fully guaranteed. It's clear the Cardinals are tanking, and they are going into the start of the regular season with either Joshua Dobbs or rookie Clayton Tune as their starting quarterback.

  • Kyler Murray Will Stay On PUP List To Begin Season

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will not be activated off the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list at the start of the 2023 regular season. Since Murray will remain on the PUP list, he is not eligible to play during the team's first four games of the season. This is not a surprise after Murray suffered a torn ACL in Week 12 against the New England Patriots last season, but now it's official. The former No. 1 overall pick still has no timetable to return. He could return as soon as Week 5 or even miss the entire regular season. All options are on the table as Arizona goes through a rebuilding year.

  • No Timetable For Kyler Murray's Return

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) said there is currently no timetable for his return from a torn ACL in mid-December of last season. The 25-year-old signal-caller is taking rehab one day at a time. "Obviously, me being the competitor I am, do I want to miss any time? No," Murray said. "It's not on my mind, but we're not even in August yet. So, I'm taking it one day at a time." That said, it's unclear how much of the 2023 season Murray will miss. Cardinals pass-catchers Marquise Brown, Rondale Moore, Trey McBride, Zach Ertz (knee), and others will likely struggle whether Colt McCoy, Clayton Tune, or David Blough is under center to begin the 2023 campaign. For now, fantasy managers should be cautious about drafting Murray, but he could have late-season value if his rushing upside isn't limited by his damaged knee.

  • Kyler Murray Focused On Learning New System

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) began training camp on the PUP list. However, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the signal-caller has "dug in hard" to learn the new system. It's a new era in Arizona, with the team hiring former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. In addition, Multi-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins is gone, meaning Murray will have to recover from a severe knee injury, comprehend a new playbook, and be productive without his top wideout in 2023-24.

  • Kyler Murray Starts Training Camp On PUP List

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to a source. Murray has been recovering from a torn right ACL in mid-December of last year, making the designation to start camp not surprising at all. He hasn't taken part in any offseason work and will be on the sidelines this summer as he tries to make it back around midway through the 2023 campaign. With Murray not expected to be ready for Week 1, his fantasy value will obviously take a big hit in 2023, especially after a somewhat disappointing year in 2022 before his injury. Veteran signal-caller Colt McCoy is the favorite to start for Arizona under center when the regular season gets underway.

  • Kyler Murray Aims To Be Ready For Week 1

    Headshot for Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) continues to rehab from a torn ACL he suffered on Dec. 12 last year, but he's set a personal expectation of being ready to return to action by Week 1 this fall. "When you look further down the line, it seems like we got a long way to go. Ideally, I want to be back by Week 1," Murray said. "That's the goal. At the end of the day, that's the goal, but I can't really look that far ahead. Got to take it one day at a time." When healthy in 2022, Murray completed 66.4% of his passes for 2,368 yards, 14 TDs and seven interceptions while adding 418 yards and three TDs on the ground in 11 starts. Despite the 25-year-old's goal to be ready by Week 1, fantasy managers need to be a bit more realistic. It's more likely that he'll miss at least the first quarter of the 2023 season.
