Irv Smith Jr. Has Three Catches In Week 1

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. recorded three catches for 17 yards during the loss to the Browns on Sunday. Surprisingly, the former Viking was one of the Bengals' top producers in Week 1. However, considering Cincy accumulated only three points in this one, that's not saying much. Fantasy managers should at least be glad Smith got five targets from Joe Burrow. While he probably won't be a reliable fantasy option moving ahead, he may have a few decent performances this season. That said, Smith is undoubtedly a risky fantasy option in Week 2 versus the Baltimore Ravens.

Irv Smith Jr. Set For Bengals Debut In Week 1

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. will debut with his new squad on Sunday against the Browns. The 25-year-old spent the last four seasons in Minnesota, compiling 91 catches for 858 yards and nine touchdowns. However, he's battled various injuries throughout his career, including ankle and knee issues. But after signing a one-year deal with Cincinnati in March, Smith has a chance to turn things around and could benefit from the Bengals' high-powered offensive approach, assuming he remains on the field this season. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should consider starting him for the potential high-scoring AFC North showdown with Cleveland.

Irv Smith Jr. Continues To Get Attention

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Irv Smith Jr. continues to receive rave reviews. "Irv is good in space," said offensive coordinator Brian Callahan. "He's different than the tight ends we've had before. He has a real ability to separate and win after the catch." It appears Smith is adjusting well with the Bengals, who he signed with back in March. While the 24-year-old had nine touchdowns during his tenure in Minnesota, he was never a reliable offensive option. But Smith has a chance to have his best year to date, assuming Joe Burrow (calf) is the guy throwing him the ball throughout the 2023-24 campaign. Fantasy managers searching for a tight end late in drafts should look in Smith's direction, primarily since he could exceed expectations.
