  • Nick Mullens Nearly Throws For 400 Yards In Season Finale

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens put on a show in the Week 18 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday by going 30-for-44 for 396 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He was sacked four times for a loss of 37 yards and ran twice for eight yards. Mullens ended up being Minnesota's best option under center down the stretch after Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles, and the 28-year-old QB finished with a 67.57% completion percentage, 1,306 passing yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in five appearances (three starts). He had 300 yards and multiple touchdowns in all three of his starts, although turnovers were clearly an issue. With Cousins' future in doubt in Minnesota, Mullens' late-season performance could at least put him in consideration for the starting job in 2024 if the Vikes move on from Cousins this offseason.

  • Nick Mullens Has Streaming Appeal In Week 18

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens will make his third start over the last four weeks when he returns under center against the Detroit Lions in Week 18. Outside of Jaren Hall's ugly first half last week, Mullens has been Minnesota's go-to quarterback for the final four games of the regular season. He has a tendency to air the ball out and take risks, and while this has led to several turnovers, it also allows the Vikings to deliver big plays and score touchdowns. In Week 16 against the Lions, Mullens tossed two touchdowns and four interceptions, all while amassing 411 passing yards. From a fantasy perspective, the scores and yardage outweigh the poor ball security. The same could be true in this season-ending rematch with the Lions, whose defense has allowed the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2023. Fantasy managers should feel comfortable deploying him as a fringe QB1 option this week.

  • Nick Mullens Named Vikings Starter For Season Finale

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced that Nick Mullens will start for the team in the season finale against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Mullens started in Week 15 and 16 in losses to the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions, but rookie Jaren Hall was named QB1 for the Sunday Night Football loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 17. Hall started the game five-for-ten for 67 yards, an interception, and a lost fumble, leading to O'Connell going back to Mullens. The veteran journeyman averaged over 20 fantasy points per game in his first two starts, so he'll have DFS intrigue in the 2023 season finale.

  • Vikings Have Decided On QB Starter For Week 18

    Headshot for Jaren Hall

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said he has made a decision on the team's starting quarterback for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Detroit Lions, but he didn't announce it during his press conference on Monday. The players aren't in the building on Monday, so O'Connell plans to tell the QBs face to face before announcing the starter. The expectation is that the Vikes will go back to veteran Nick Mullens in a meaningless game after rookie Jaren Hall went 5-for-10 for 67 yards, no touchdowns, an interception and a lost fumble in Sunday night's 33-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Mullens went 13-for-22 for 113 yards and a touchdown in relief of Hall in Week 17 and threw for 714 yards and four TDs in his previous two starts. Both the Lions and Vikings could be resting a lot of notable players in the regular season finale this Sunday.

QB Nick Mullens said Friday that he understands the Vikings' decision to bench him after two games: "To me it's pretty cut and dry. If I turn the ball over, I'm probably not going to be in the game. I feel like I let the team down and that sucks."

The Vikings lost a key divisional matchup in Week 16, in large part due to the turnover-filled performance of quarterback Nick Mullens. In the wake of his rough outing, a change atop the QB depth chart could be forthcoming. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports the Vikings are “taking a long look” at replacing […]

  • Ty Chandler Nearly Craters Week 16 Fantasy Lineups

    Headshot for Ty Chandler

Minnesota Vikings running back Ty Chandler maintained his stay atop the depth chart despite Alexander Mattison's (ankle) return in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Detroit Lions, but he ran for just 17 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Chandler nearly left with a disaster in Week 16 but rushed to the right for a two-yard score in the first quarter, which was about the only notable aspect of his afternoon. His usage was very disappointing, since Mattison went backwards on his two carries. But on a day where Minnesota was playing behind, Nick Mullens recklessly let it rip 36 times for 411 yards, two TDs, and four picks. Fantasy managers can at least hang their hats on Chandler's lead role even with Mattison back in the picture, but it should be said that the Vikings reportedly planned a reduced workload for Mattison from the get-go. As it stands, Chandler is on the RB2 radar in Week 17 versus the Green Bay Packers.

  • Nick Mullens A QB2 Versus Lions

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens will get his second straight start in Week 16 as the Vikings host the Lions. Mullens is coming off a 303-yard performance in his last start versus the Bengals, which puts him on the QB2 radar against a struggling Lions secondary. The Lions have allowed the eighth-most passing touchdowns this season, which bodes well for Mullens who had two passing touchdowns a week ago. With Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, and Jordan Addison at his disposal, the former 49er could do some damage through the air in Week 16.

    Headshot for Jaren Hall

The Vikings’ playoff prospects took a hit on Saturday, but a quarterback change does not appear to be imminent. • Vikings Confirm Nick Mullens Will Start In Week 16

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell confirmed on Monday that quarterback Nick Mullens will make the start in Week 16 on Sunday against the division-rival Detroit Lions. Mullens earned a second straight start by throwing for 303 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-24 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, although he did also have two costly interceptions. The 28-year-old did enough to convince the Vikings coaching staff that he's still the better option over Joshua Dobbs under center as the team fights for a chance at the postseason. The Lions defense has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game (22.7) to opposing quarterbacks in the last five weeks, so Mullens will certainly have some streaming appeal in two-QB superflex leagues for those in need of help at the position.

  • Nick Mullens Expected To Start Again In Week 16

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens will pick up his second consecutive start against the Detroit Lions in Week 16, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The veteran threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns against Cincinnati on Saturday but struggled with turnovers, including one bad interception in the red zone. Mullens is probably the best passer of the quarterbacks in Minnesota, which boosts the value of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson. He'll be a midrange QB2 against a Detroit secondary that is weak against opposing quarterbacks.

  • Nick Mullens Throws For 303 Yards In Week 15 Loss

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens completed 26-of-33 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns in the team's 27-24 loss to the Bengals on Saturday. Mullens turned the ball over twice with two interceptions in his first start of the season. Despite the turnovers, the former San Francisco 49er also added 10 yards on the ground in what ended up being a decent showing in terms of fantasy production. With a solid supporting cast, Mullens figures to be in the low-end QB2 discussion moving forward.

  • Nick Mullens A Risky Play In Week 15

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens will take over as the starter in Week 15 as Joshua Dobbs heads to the bench for the Vikings. Mullens came into the game in relief of Dobbs in Week 14 as he threw for 83 yards, as the Vikings offense failed to score a touchdown en route to a 3-0 win over the Raiders. Mullens has some appeal in a matchup against the Bengals defense who have given up the sixth-most passing yards this season, as the former 49er has the supporting cast to be successful in this one. He should have Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, and Jordan Addison at his disposal, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited. Mullens is a QB2 option at best this week.

  • Nick Mullens Replacing Joshua Dobbs As Vikings Starting Quarterback

    Headshot for Joshua Dobbs

The Minnesota Vikings are making a change at quarterback, with Nick Mullens replacing Joshua Dobbs under center for the Week 15 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, according to sources. Mullens replaced the struggling Dobbs in the fourth quarter of Week 14's 3-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and has 17 career NFL starts under his belt. He also knows the Vikings system and is fully healthy after being on Injured Reserve in October. The 28-year-old went 9-for-13 for 83 yards and led the Vikings on their only scoring drive of the game on Sunday. Mullens has experience, but Saturday will be his first start since 2021 and he isn't going to have much fantasy upside at all against Cincinnati on the road. At best, he'll be a low-end streamer in two-QB formats in Week 15.

  • Vikings To Make Decision On Quarterback Later In The Week

    Headshot for Joshua Dobbs

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said that the team's decision on the starting quarterback will be made later in the week as they prepare to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 15 on Saturday. Minnesota considered benching Joshua Dobbs going into their Week 13 bye but stuck with him in the Week 14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders for three quarters before benching him in favor of Nick Mullens after Dobbs went 10-for-23 for just 63 yards in the eventual 3-0 win. Mullens went 9-for-13 for 83 yards and led the team to the lone scoring drive in the entire game. With how badly Dobbs has played in his last two starts, it would be a surprise if the Vikes didn't turn to Mullens at this point. Mullens may be better at avoiding turnovers, but his ceiling won't be much higher as a low-end QB2 option in superflex fantasy leagues.

  • Nick Mullens Takes Over In Week 14

    Headshot for Nick Mullens

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens threw for 83 yards off 9-for-13 passing in the three-point win over the Raiders on Sunday. Joshua Dobbs couldn't get anything going offensively, so Mullens took over late in the contest to lead the team to a win. There's a chance the 28-year-old journeyman signal-caller will be under center for the Week 15 encounter with the Cincinnati Bengals. However, neither Mullens nor Dobbs are worth starting in any fantasy scenario, especially if wide receiver Justin Jefferson (chest) and running back Alexander Mattison (ankle) aren't healthy enough to suit up.
