  • Gus Edwards Doubtful For Week 1

While Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins (knee) was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday, fellow running back Gus Edwards (knee) is the furthest away and is likely doubtful for Week 1 of the regular season. When healthy, Edwards figures to be the No. 2 behind Dobbins, but it looks like he won't be ready to go early in the year. Baltimore also has Mike Davis, rookie Tyler Badie and Justice Hill to pick up the slack behind Dobbins. Like Dobbins, Edwards missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL, but the 27-year-old had 144 carries for 723 yards and six rushing touchdowns in 2020. Edwards will probably go undrafted in standard 12-team leagues to begin the year, but he'll be a handcuff waiver-wire pickup for Dobbins once he's healthy.

  • Gus Edwards Could Miss "Chunk Of Time"

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards (knee) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list prior to training camp, leaving question marks about his status for Week 1. When providing an update about the Ravens backfield, Jamison Hensley of ESPN described teammate J.K. Dobbins (knee) as expected to be ready for Week 1 but Edwards as further behind in his recovery, noting he could miss a "chunk of time" to start the season. Edwards already finds himself in a difficult situation, competing for carries with Dobbins in an offense that does not typically pass to their running backs. Additionally, they recently brought in veteran running back Mike Davis and drafted sixth-round rookie Tyler Badie. It continues to look like Edwards will not be ready for the start of the season, and he may need to earn back his role when he returns if Davis or Badie are productive while he is sidelined.

  • Gus Edwards Considered Questionable For Week 1

Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards (knee), who is on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin training camp, is considered questionable for Week 1 against the New York Jets. Fellow running back J.K. Dobbins (knee), whose ACL tear was accompanied by further damage, is also on the PUP, so the big storyline this summer will be whether veteran Mike Davis will have to open the season as the team's lead back. When the Ravens entire backfield is healthy, Edwards figures to be the No. 2 behind Dobbins as a power runner between the tackles. The 27-year-old has had over 700 rushing yards in each of his three NFL seasons, but his lack of pass-catching chops limits his fantasy upside.

  • Ravens Put J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards On PUP List

The Baltimore Ravens placed running backs J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Gus Edwards (knee), left tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle), outside linebacker Tyus Bowser (Achilles), cornerback Marcus Peters (knee) and safety Ar'Darius Washington (foot) on the Physically Unable to Perform list to open training camp. Both Dobbins and Edwards suffered torn ACLs -- Dobbins also had LCL and meniscus damage -- and missed all of 2021. Dobbins has been adamant that he'll be ready for Week 1, but there's no guarantee that will happen, making him a risky low-end RB2/high-end RB3 for fantasy managers. The 23-year-old should be Baltimore's top backfield option when healthy in a run-first offense, but his health is a big question mark right now. The Ravens signed veteran Mike Davis for depth this offseason.

  • J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards Have A Chance To Be Ready

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said it's too early to say whether running backs J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Gus Edwards (knee) and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley (ankle) will be ready on Day 1 of training camp next month. Harbaugh said they all have "a chance," but he's more "hopeful" for Week 1 of the regular season. Edwards has an easier path to be ready on time, since Dobbins is recovering from an ACL tear and LCL damage to his knee. Assuming both are at full health, Dobbins is the more attractive fantasy option as a risk/reward, low-end RB2. Edwards probably won't be drafted in standard-sized leagues, while former Falcons running back Mike Davis will only be an option if neither Dobbins nor Edwards are ready to go for Week 1.

  • J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards To Have Workloads Managed

Baltimore Ravens running backs J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Gus Edwards (knee) are expected to be somewhat limited early in the season. Both players are coming off season-ending ACL injuries from last season. That being said, the Ravens are going to be cautious with both players, which means they'll likely keep more running backs on the roster. Tyler Badie could very well get some early season action with the Ravens limiting Dobbins and Edwards. He could be someone worth stashing on the bench while this situation gets sorted out. Fantasy managers should prepare for Dobbins and Edwards to have slow starts to the season as the team works them back into the flow.
