Shaquille Leonard Remains Without A Timetable

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back) does not have a timetable to return to practice, according to head coach Shane Steichen. Leonard missed most of last season after undergoing back surgery before camp. He underwent a second surgery in November to address the same problem. The three-time All-Pro linebacker is a superstar when healthy, but it's uncertain when he'll be back to 100 percent. The Colts haven't done much adding to their linebacker group, so they must expect Leonard to return at some point. The team should give another update on his status when they get closer to camp.

Colts Happy With Shaquille Leonard's Progress

The Indianapolis Colts are optimistic about the progress that linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back) is making after having a second surgery on his back last year. "Shaq has been progressing well," new head coach Shane Steichen said. "I'm not going to put a timetable on his return." Leonard is a three-time first-team All-Pro who is entering his age-27 season as one of the leaders on defense for Indy, but he's also trying to get back to the player he was before two back surgeries in 2022. "Not only are the nerves re-firing, they're just strengthening everything back up now," Leonard said after last season ended. The Colts will likely take it slow with Leonard this summer, but if he can return to his pre-injury form, it will be a huge boost to the Colts defense and for those drafting in IDP leagues.

Shaquille Leonard Feeling Better After Surgery

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back) said he's feeling back to his normal self after having a second back surgery that cut his 2022 season short. "I will be back to the guy on the field who punches the ball out, creates turnovers, leadership, energy, whatever. I have to make sure I remember the times when I was down, remember the people who turned their back to me, take it, put that chip back on my shoulder and continue to prove everybody wrong," Leonard said. The 27-year-old played in only three games last year after being an All-Pro in three of his first four seasons in the NFL. It remains to be seen if Leonard can return to his All-Pro form, but he'll certainly be on the IDP radar if he's fully healthy in 2023.
