  • Jets Will Listen On Sam Darnold

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that the team is open to listening to trade offers for quarterback Sam Darnold this offseason. "I will answer the call if it's made," Douglas said Wednesday. The Jets could opt to stick with Darnold, draft a replacement at No. 2 overall or pursue Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson if he becomes available. Douglas said he's in no rush to make a decision and downplayed Watson as an option. Since the end of the 2020 season, the Jets have been non-committal on Darnold, who has yet to take the next step. The Jets will evaluate the top QBs in the draft before making a final decision on Darnold. The 23-year-old hasn't had a ton of help around him, but it sounds like the Jets may be moving on soon. Stay tuned.

  • Jets Not Making A Decision On Sam Darnold Yet

The New York Jets plan to complete their evaluations of the top quarterbacks, including Pro Days and interviews, in the NFL draft before making any final decisions on quarterback Sam Darnold, according to sources. The Jets have received real trade interest in Darnold, but they want to get the full QB picture first. New York's offensive line was better in 2020, but the 23-year-old was still wildly mediocre and missed four games due to injury. He threw for 2,208 yards on 364 attempts (59.6 completion percentage) with just nine touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. If Darnold is to remain the team's starter under center, Gang Green needs to get him better weapons to work with if he's to see any real improvement. But at this point after three years of game tape, Darnold is an unattractive low-end QB2 in need of a change of scenery.

  • Teams Inquiring About Sam Darnold Trade

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold could be on the move, with multiple teams reaching out about trading for the former No. 3 overall pick. The Jets pick second in this year's draft, which would give them their pick of two sought-after QB prospects in Ohio State's Justin Fields and BYU's Zach Wilson. There's also rumors swirling about a Deshaun Watson trade. All that has teams circling on Darnold, though there's no guarantee that the Jets end up moving him. In 12 games this season, Darnold averaged just 184 passing yards per game and completed under 60 percent of his passes.

  • Sam Darnold Has Supporters In New Head Coach, OC

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has faced turmoil from all sides as it comes to his role as the team's starting QB in the past 12 months, and that shows no signs of slowing as 2021 kicks off. But it appears that new head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur see their signal caller as having "untapped potential," after watching extensive tape. Darnold has primarily had to battle the possibility of New York drafting a quarterback with the No. 2 overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft, but with Texans QB Deshaun Watson now reportedly available in a deal, Darnold may have a new wrinkle in his path to remaining the starter for the Jets. It's well within the realm that New York tabs Darnold under center in less than eight months time when the new year begins, as a full off-season with LaFleur may be just the ticket his future needs.

  • Jets Hire Robert Saleh As Head Coach

The New York Jets hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their next head coach on Thursday night, according to league sources. The two sides have reached an agreement on a five-year deal. 49ers passing-game coordinator Mike LaFleur is expected to be the first member of Saleh's staff and serve as the offensive coordinator. Saleh has been a highly sought-after head-coach candidate the last two seasons and also interviewed with the Falcons, Lions, Jaguars, Eagles and Chargers for their head-coach vacancies. He was the guiding force behind the Niners transformation on D in the last four seasons. San Fran finished second in yards allowed per game en route to a Super Bowl appearance after the 2019 regular season. Saleh inherits a Jets team that went 2-14 in 2020 and a defense that allowed 28.6 points per game, the third-most in franchise history. The Jets hold the No. 2 and 23 picks in this year's draft and must decide if quarterback Sam Darnold is their future under center.

  • Jets Non-Committal On Sam Darnold's Future

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas, who previously said that quarterback Sam Darnold was untouchable, was non-committal on whether Darnold would be the team's starting quarterback in 2021. Douglas said the team's new head coach will be "a big part of that." The Jets also have the second overall pick in the draft and could select Darnold's replacement. Douglas remains optimistic about Darnold's future, but it was tempered compared to his previous stance on the signal-caller. New York finished 2-14 and Darnold was the NFL's lowest-rated QB (72.7). The former third overall pick in 2018 helped beat the Rams and Browns, but he finished with a two-interception performance in a loss to the Patriots in Week 17. The 23-year-old finished with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 12 games, but he wasn't helped by his offensive line and had a lack of trustworthy receivers all year. Darnold will likely have competition next year and won't be on the radar in single-QB leagues.

  • Sam Darnold Avoidable In Regular Season Finale

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is not having the type of season that many were hopeful to happen in 2020. In fact, Darnold has only finished with 200 passing yards or more in three games this season. He played well against the Cleveland Browns secondary last week, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect it to happen again. The New England Patriots secondary has allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. It's best to avoid using Darnold for this Week 17 matchup.

  • Sam Darnold Efficient In Win Over Browns

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold looked fairly decent during the Week 16 victory over the Cleveland Browns. He completed 16 of 32 passing attempts for 175 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. The Jets officially give up on the Trevor Lawrence tank train and get their second win of the season. Darnold has now played three straight games without an interception. However, he won't have much fantasy appeal against the New England Patriots in Week 17.

  • Sam Darnold Could Have Streaming Appeal

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has put together a fairly below average performance this season. However, he did look decent against the Los Angeles Rams last week. He threw for 207 yards with one touchdown and helped the Jets get their first win of the season. Darnold might be in line for another decent performance against the Cleveland Browns secondary in Week 16. A secondary that is bottom-10 in pass defense this season. Possibly, Darnold could have cheap DFS appeal or possibly a streaming option versus the Browns this week.

  • Sam Darnold Throws Touchdown In Win

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold looked decent during the Week 15 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. He completed 22 of 31 passing attempts for 207 yards and one touchdown with zero interceptions in the win. Darnold didn't look amazing out there, but did what he needed to in order to get the win. However, it's unlikely that Darnold is a favorable fantasy candidate for the rest of the season. He'll get a matchup against the Cleveland Browns next week, so it's tough to imagine Darnold having great value for that one.

  • Sam Darnold A Borderline Unusable Option In Week 15

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has a total of five touchdown passes on the season, which should be enough to show he's heavily struggled. To be fair, Darnold has not been given much talent to work with this season. Nonetheless, Darnold has look awful under center most weeks and that will likely be the case once again in Week 15. The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best defenses in the league right now. They've given up the fewest amount of fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Honestly, Darnold might be the worst quarterback option for Week 15.

  • Sam Darnold Eyes Sticking With Jets Beyond 2020

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold's confidence has not wavered in the midst of an 0-13 season, at least not publicly. The quarterback reasserted Monday that he believed he was the long-term solution for the team under center and that he wanted to be a Jet "for life," but also recognized the position that the team was in entering the 2021 NFL Draft, where Clemson's Trevor Lawrence likely awaits. Darnold's numbers have taken a severe dip in '20, although how much of that is due to his team's offensive line play and lack of offensive weapons is up for interpretation. Other organizations have reportedly shown interest in the 23-year-old, who undoubtedly will only see his fantasy value increase if he is moved to a new organization. Down the stretch, Darnold is a tough sell even in two-QB leagues due to the Jets' wholesale struggles.

  • Sam Darnold Quiet In Week 14 Loss

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was not been an ideal fantasy option all year long. However, there was some hope that he could be a viable option against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14. Sadly, that was not the case as Darnold was basically invisible on the field during this one. He completed 14 of 26 passing attempts for 132 yards without a touchdown or interception in the loss. It was an uneventful week for Darnold, but that can be said just about every week. He'll remain an avoidable option against the Los Angeles Rams next week.

  • Sam Darnold A Desperation Option For Week 14

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was finally able to find the end zone last week for the first time since Week 3. He completed 14 of 23 passing attempts for 186 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Honestly, Darnold played well enough to win, but head coach Adam Gase found a way to lose them the game. Darnold has not been a viable fantasy option all year, but this might be his only and best chance to have value this season. He'll be facing a Seattle Seahawks secondary that has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. The Seahawks can't stop the passing game, but it's the Jets, so they will find a way to mess it up. Darnold is a possible low-end streaming option, assuming fantasy owners have no one better to start in Week 14.

  • Sam Darnold Throws Two Touchdowns In Loss

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold surprisingly didn't play completely awful during the Week 13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 14 of 23 passing attempts for 186 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. This game was the first time that Darnold has thrown a passing touchdown since Week 3. Finally, Darnold shows some signs of life, but it wasn't enough to get them the win. He'll get a decent matchup against the shaky Seattle Seahawks secondary next week. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect much out of Darnold despite a solid matchup.
