Rashaad Penny Used Sparingly In Week 2 Victory

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny took three carries for nine yards and added one reception for five yards during the team's 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings. After being a healthy scratch last week against New England, the 27-year-old was able to make his way onto the active roster after Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) was ruled out Wednesday. However, it led to only four total touches as D'Andre Swift dominated the snap share out of the backfield to the tune of 181 total yards. Boston Scott (concussion) was given carries before Penny, and he could have taken them all if he had not exited the game early. The former Seattle Seahawk is buried on the depth chart and can safely be dropped to the waiver wire unless injuries occur ahead of him. We will have to wait and see if he will be active for the Eagles' next game against Tampa Bay.

Rashaad Penny Active For Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny is active for Thursday's Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The 27-year-old was a healthy scratch for the season opener. However, the injury to Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) has opened a door for Penny to make an impact on the active roster. The assumption is that D'Andre Swift will be the lead back with Penny and Boston Scott mixed in as well. It's unclear how the Eagles plan on splitting up the workload between the trio. That being said, Penny shouldn't be started in fantasy leagues until he has a legitimate role for himself.

Rashaad Penny Expected To Be Active Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny is expected to be active for Thursday Night Football with fellow backfield mate Kenneth Gainwell (ribs) ruled out. Penny was a healthy scratch for the Eagles during Week 1. The team opted to play Gainwell, D'Andre Swift, and Boston Scott. Swift profiles to lead the backfield in opportunities in Week 2. Penny should not be started in fantasy football until it's shown that he's being given consistent touches.

Rashaad Penny Officially Inactive Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny (coach's decision) is officially inactive for Sunday's season opener against the New England Patriots. Indeed, an early-morning report that Penny would be a scratch has come to fruition. D'Andre Swift is a fringe top-24 fantasy back while Kenneth Gainwell has FLEX appeal in deeper leagues. Of course, Jalen Hurts will also handle a significant number of rushing attempts in Week 1.

Rashaad Penny Expected To Be Inactive Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny is expected to be a healthy scratch in Week 1, per Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Enquirer. This is a surprising development considering Penny was a candidate to start and handle the bulk of Philadelphia's carries. Instead, they'll likely deploy a mix of D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell against the Patriots on Sunday. Swift is a mid-to-high RB3 in fantasy football while Gainwell could also be worth starting in deeper leagues.

Rashaad Penny A Risky Flex Option In Week 1

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny will open the regular season on the road against the New England Patriots this Sunday. The former Seattle Seahawk will rotate into the offense with projected starter D'Andre Swift and fellow backup Kenneth Gainwell. While Swift has upside in this matchup due to his pass-catching ability, Penny is a far riskier option. We do not know how often Philadelphia will rotate their backs, and New England was one of the toughest matchups for the position last season. Penny should see most of the goal line work, but he will have to compete with Swift and quarterback Jalen Hurts for touches inside the 20's. The 27-year-old can be started as a flex option in Week 1, but he is touchdown-dependent this week, so manage your expectations.

Kennedy Brooks Leads Eagles In Carries Thursday Night

Philadelphia Eagles running back Kennedy Brooks took seven carries for 26 yards and caught his lone target for a four-yard gain during the team's 18-18 preseason tie with the Cleveland Browns. Brooks did not see the field until the second half but ended up leading the team in total carries by the end of the night. The 24-year-old floated around the Eagles practice squad last season but has little to no chance of making the final 53-man roster, especially after a less-than-stellar showing against the Cleveland third-string defense. With the Eagles running back room packed by the likes of Rashaad Penny, D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell, Trey Sermon, and Boston Scott, Brooks will be lucky to land on the Philadelphia practice squad by the time the regular season kicks off. He should see some run during the Eagles' final preseason game next Thursday.

Rashaad Penny Leads Team In Carries During Preseason Opener

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny took nine carries for 34 yards during the team's preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The 27-year-old also drew a target but failed to haul it in. Some may be concerned to see Penny playing with the third-string offense, but both he and D'Andre Swift were given carries in this game. Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott got the day off, likely due to their familiarity with the offense, leaving Penny, Swift, and Trey Sermon as the three main backs this week. Swift looked much better in the early goings of this contest, but the run game never really got going for any Eagles back behind the backup offensive lineman. It will be interesting to see who draws the start next week when the Eagles take on the Cleveland Browns, but we may not have a clear answer as to who will be the "lead back" in this crowded running back room before the regular season starts.

Like Doug Pederson, Nick Sirianni led the Eagles to a Super Bowl in his sophomore HC effort. The endings proved different, as Philadelphia’s defense could not stop Patrick Mahomes in a shootout, but the Eagles went from 9-8 in 2021 to the NFC’s best team. While this represents considerable progress after the team did not […]

Philadelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny saw the first carry of training camp practice on Wednesday with the first-team offense. This news should be taken with a grain of salt early in camp, as Penny should be splitting plenty of time with D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell in Philly's backfield in 2023. The 27-year-old former first-rounder of the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 is recovered from a broken leg that limited him to only five games in 2022. Penny has averaged a healthy 5.8 yards per carry in five seasons, but he hasn't played in more than 14 games in a single season due to various injuries along the way. He'll have plenty of upside if healthy in the Eagles' offense, but his injury issues and a likely timeshare in Philly will make him a boom/bust RB3/flex in fantasy.

Latest On Eagles' RB Situation

The Eagles will have a new running back group in 2023 after seeing Miles Sanders depart in free agency. A by-committee approach will be used, but some roster trimming will likely be necessary between now and Week 1. Philadelphia will likely make one or more moves aimed at lowering the number of backs on the roster, […]
