Fantasy Advice

Best pure runner in the NFL? That is what the experts say, but it doesn't equate to top fantasy points because of the lack of catches. He hit 27 last year, second highest of his five-year career. Kareem Hunt is gone but we can't expect an increase in workload for Chubb after 302 carries in 2022. His previous high, 298 in 2019, led to missed games in 2020. Always some risk with a high touch back. Counterpoint: Chubb is in his prime. A solid, consistent contributor to anchor your backfield after starting stud WR in the first round.

  • No Timetable For Nick Chubb's Return

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

While Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb (knee) has been working hard in the weight room, there's no timetable yet for his return in 2024. "I don't know that we'll go past today and this week at least that's the way I'm looking at it," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "I can promise you he's working very hard early in the morning. He's here, he's attacking his rehab. That's the best way I can put it. When he's ready, he'll be ready." The 28-year-old suffered a gruesome season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of last year. While he'll be sticking around with the team in 2024, it's unclear if he'll be ready by training camp this summer or if the Browns will be forced to ease him into the fold in the opening portion of the 2024 campaign. Because of the uncertainty around how Chubb will bounce back, it will make him an extremely risky RB1 in fantasy.

  • Browns, Nick Chubb Agree To Reworked Contract

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

The Cleveland Browns and star running back Nick Chubb (knee) agreed on a reworked contract for the 2024 season on Thursday to lower his base salary of $11.775 million, according to sources. Chubb will have a chance to earn it back via incentives after working his way back from a gruesome season-ending left-knee injury that he suffered in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 28-year-old isn't going anywhere, but he won't be as much of a sure thing as an RB1 in fantasy leagues after tearing his ACL, MCL and meniscus in 2023. Even if he's ready to go for Week 1 this fall for the Browns, Cleveland could choose to ease Chubb in and give more touches to Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines. We'll keep a close eye on Chubb's recovery this offseason.

  • Nick Chubb Expected To Start Load Running Next Month

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb (knee) is expected to begin load running in April, according to general manager Andrew Berry. The 28-year-old suffered a torn MCL and damaged ACL in the Week 2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last season in what looked to be a potential career-ending injury. However, he is looking to bounce back and play again, but there is a lot of time before the start of next season. This will be an ongoing development worth following ahead of fantasy drafts for the 2024 campaign. Cleveland has Jerome Ford on the roster and recently signed veteran D'Onta Foreman, and if Chubb is limited upon his return, he could be utilized as a committee back moving forward.

  • Browns Nearing Extensions With Kevin Stefanski, Andrew Berry

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam said on Monday that they are close to reaching contract extensions with both head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry. In the last four seasons with Stefanski and Berry at the helm in Cleveland, the Browns have made the postseason twice and even won a playoff game against the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns have gone 37-30 in the regular season since both men were hired. They've gone 1-2 in the postseason but advanced to the playoffs last year despite season-ending injuries to key players like Deshaun Watson, Nick Chubb, Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills. It remains to be seen how long their new contract extensions will be, but both Stefanski and Berry have earned the right to stick around longer.

With the new league year not far away, many teams around the NFL have begun restructures and cost-shedding releases to become cap compliant. In the case of the Browns, many have pointed to running back Nick Chubb as a potential cap casualty. Chubb has one year remaining on his deal, and he is due a non-guaranteed base […]

  • Nick Chubb Could Be Salary Cap Casualty

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

The Cleveland Browns want to keep running back Nick Chubb (knee) around, but he's also recovering from two surgeries on his injured knee this offseason and is due to carry a salary cap charge of just under $16 million in 2024, the final year of his contract and his age-28 season. The Browns would take on around $4 million in dead money if they were to cut Chubb. The Athletic's Zac Jackson points out that Chubb's contract was structured long before his injury. When healthy, Chubb has been one of the league's best RBs, but the Browns also need to account for every penny on their salary cap now and into the foreseeable future. Chubb will mostly likely be back in 2024, but he'll be a risk/reward fantasy selection coming off a gruesome knee injury early last year.

  • Browns Expected To Extend HC Kevin Stefanski, GM Andrew Berry

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

The Browns dealt with a slew of injuries on offense in particular during the 2023 campaign, but they still managed to qualify for the postseason. In the wake of that performance, continuity on the sidelines and in the front office is expected. Head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry are each in line for extensions this offseason, […]

  • Kevin Stefanski Wins Coach Of The Year

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was named the 2024 NFL Coach of the Year on Thursday. It was the second time in his career that he's won the award. The 41-year-old beat out Houston Texans first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans on a tiebreaker. Stefanski led Cleveland to an 11-6 record in 2023, which was pretty impressive, considering the team lost quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) and running back Nick Chubb (knee) to injuries during the year. They also lost their top three offensive tackles but still managed to make the postseason before losing to the Texans in the wild-card round. The Browns started five different QBs last season, ultimately finishing with veteran Joe Flacco, who was named the league's Comeback Player of the Year.

  • Browns Intend To Bring Nick Chubb Back

    Headshot for Nick Chubb

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the intention is to bring running back Nick Chubb (knee) back for the 2024 season despite his contract situation and serious knee injury. The Browns have an out in Chubb's contract this offseason for only a $4 million dead salary cap hit, and he would carry a $15.8 million cap hit for 2024. If the two sides are intent on running it back, it's likely they'll come to an agreement on a contract restructure for next season. The 28-year-old suffered a torn left ACL early in the 2023 campaign but is no longer using crutches and could be ready to go for the start of the 2024 regular season, barring any setbacks this offseason. If Chubb is ready to go for the start of next season, he'll be a bit more risky as an RB1 in fantasy coming off his serious knee injury.
