  • Latest On Steelers' QB Situation, Possible Justin Fields Pursuit

    Headshot for Justin Fields

Last week, we heard that the Steelers were interested in re-signing quarterback Mason Rudolph and having him compete with 2022 first-rounder Kenny Pickett to be the club’s starting signal-caller. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that, even if the Steelers are unsuccessful in their pursuit of a Rudolph re-up, the club will not consider […]

The Steelers’ quarterbacks room is already set to look a bit different after the expected recent departure of Mitch Trubisky. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the team is hoping that it won’t change much more as they reportedly aim to keep backup quarterback Mason Rudolph around moving forward. • Steelers Appear To Have Internal Division Over QB Position

    Headshot for Kenny Pickett

The Pittsburgh Steelers will head into the 2024 season with the idea that quarterback Kenny Pickett, who has gone 14-10 so far, will be their No. 1 QB. However, they also won't go in with the same hope they had this time last year when they were encouraged by how Pickett finished his rookie season in 2022. There actually seems to be internal division that Mason Rudolph should be the starter after the way he finished last year by winning the final three regular season games to get the team into the playoffs. The problem is that Rudolph is an unrestricted free agent and may not return. The Steelers' priority is to bring Rudolph back, which would create an open competition between him and Pickett in training camp this summer. Barring some drastic improvement from Pickett this offseason, both QBs appear to be game-manager types, making him low-upside QB options in fantasy.

  • Steelers Not Closing Door On Trade For Veteran Quarterback

    Headshot for Kenny Pickett

In an interview with KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II did not dismiss the idea of the organization trading for a veteran quarterback this offseason. "As we sit here in early February, we're not closing the door on anything," Rooney said. "We have a lot of evaluations to go through, and we'll go through all of the options and do what we need to do to be better this coming season." 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett has been underwhelming, throwing for just 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 25 career games. The 25-year-old dealt with a knee injury late in the season, forcing Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph into action. Even when Pickett was cleared to play, the Steelers opted to roll with Rudolph into the playoffs. The Steelers have remained a competitive team since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, but the quarterback spot has seemingly been the main thing holding the team back. With players like Russell Wilson and Justin Fields potentially being available via trade this offseason, the Steelers could be in the market.

  • Steelers Expected To Hire Arthur Smith As Offensive Coordinator

    Headshot for Najee Harris

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to hire former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith as their offensive coordinator, according to sources. Smith had a top running game as the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator before becoming the Falcons' head coach three years ago. He'll now be coaching Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and company in Pittsburgh. Smith never got his offenses going in Atlanta, mainly because he never figured out the quarterback position. The situation is very similar in Pittsburgh, with Kenny Pickett potentially competing with Mason Rudolph (if he's re-signed) for the starting gig in training camp this summer. In Smith's defense, the Falcons did have the third-most rushing yards in 2022. If anything, the move to hire Smith will be good news for Harris and Warren in 2024.

  • Steelers Interested In Re-Signing Mason Rudolph

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II said the team still believes in quarterback Kenny Pickett, but they need better QB play moving forward and want to re-sign impending free-agent QB Mason Rudolph, who took over the starting job late in the 2023 season. The Steelers are looking to hire a new offensive coordinator that will bring a "fresh approach" after they ranked 28th in total offense. The Steelers went 3-0 with Rudolph as the starter to close out the regular season to squeak into the AFC postseason picture before losing to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round. Rudolph threw for 716 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the final three games of the regular season. He was more efficient than Pickett was, but Rudolph has proven he's nothing more than a low-ceiling game manager for fantasy purposes.

  • Arthur Smith Interviews With Steelers

    Headshot for Kenny Pickett

Former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith interviewed on Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive-coordinator job, according to sources. Smith is on the open market after spending the last three years as the head coach for the Falcons, leading the team to 7-10 finishes all three seasons while directing offenses led by quarterbacks Matt Ryan, Marcus Mariota, Desmond Ridder and Tyler Heinicke. Before going to Atlanta, Smith was the Tennessee Titans' offensive coordinator in 2019 when quarterback Ryan Tannehill won Comeback Player of the Year. He could be an ideal leader for a Steelers offense that lacked consistency under former offensive coordinator Matt Canada. The Steelers will head into the offseason with a potential QB battle brewing this summer between Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph.

  • Mason Rudolph Continues To Receive Endorsements

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph is set to hit free agency heading into the 2024-25 campaign. However, several of Pittsburgh's prominent offensive options, specifically Diontae Johnson and George Pickens, seemingly want Rudolph to remain the team's starting signal-caller moving ahead. It's no secret Kenny Pickett has struggled since entering the league. But after Pickett didn't start late in the year, Rudolph played well enough to lead the Steelers to three consecutive wins and an AFC Wild Card appearance. At any rate, dynasty managers should keep the 28-year-old on the roster, considering there's a chance he'll remain in Pittsburgh. If Rudolph inks a new deal, Pickens and Johnson could also benefit, mainly since the duo played better after Pickett wasn't in the picture.

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 22 of his 39 pass attempts for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He added 16 rushing yards on two carries. Pittsburgh's offense struggled with turnovers early on in the contest and quickly trailed 21-0 soon after Rudolph was picked off Buffalo's end zone. The 28-year-old battled back, however, and led the Steelers on three scoring drives. He connected with wide receivers Diontae Johnson and Calvin Austin III on short touchdown passes that brought the team within seven points of the Bills in the fourth quarter. Although his efforts ultimately came up short, Rudolph was solid in his postseason debut. The Steelers will need to figure out numerous things this offseason, including their plans for the quarterback position in 2024.

  • Mason Rudolph Draws Tough Matchup In First Playoff Start

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph ended the regular season going 3-0 as a starter and will lead the team against the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round of the playoffs. Sunday's contest is not projected to feature much scoring as gusting winds and snow are expected in Buffalo. Even if Rudolph manages to overcome the harsh weather conditions, he will also need to conquer a stout Bills' pass defense to make an impact for fantasy purposes. Buffalo has surrendered the seventh-fewest yards through the air and the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing signal-callers this season. Fantasy managers should make an effort to avoid Rudolph in all formats this weekend.

  • Steelers Sticking With Mason Rudolph At Quarterback

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the team is sticking with quarterback Mason Rudolph as their starter for Sunday's wild-card playoff game at the Buffalo Bills. Tomlin said the team is "sticking with the hot hand." Kenny Pickett has recovered from tightrope surgery on his ankle, but Rudolph has earned the starting gig heading into the postseason after leading the Steelers to three straight wins to secure the seventh and final playoff spot in the AFC. While he's been a stabilizing force for the Steelers offense, he hasn't really been great for fantasy purposes, going 53-for-71 for 716 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in his three starts down the stretch. On the road in likely frigid conditions in a hostile environment in Buffalo this weekend isn't going to make him an attractive DFS play, even at a low cost.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 18 of his 20 pass attempts for 152 yards and one touchdown in a 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Weather conditions in Baltimore made things difficult for the 28-year-old, who fumbled three times in the contest. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, only one resulted in a turnover. Big plays were difficult to come by on Saturday, but Rudolph did complete a strike over the middle of the field to Diontae Johnson for a 71-yard score early in the fourth quarter. Following a 0-3 run that mostly featured Mitch Trubisky at quarterback, the Steelers are now 3-0 over the past three weeks with Rudolph under center. It is safe to assume that Rudolph will retain QB1 duties should Pittsburgh make it into the playoffs.

  • Kenny Pickett Off The Week 18 Injury Report

    Headshot for Kenny Pickett

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett (ankle) was a full participant during Thursday's practice session and doesn't carry an injury designation into the Week 18 regular season finale on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite Pickett looking healthy, the Steelers will stick with Mason Rudolph in a must-win game in Week 18. Rudolph has led this team to a 2-0 record with 564 yards and two touchdowns in his two starts. Pickett struggled throughout most of the season before going down with an ankle injury that required surgery. It's not shocking to see head coach Mike Tomlin sticking with the hot hand in Rudolph. The good news is that Pickett doesn't appear to be injured anymore, but he's going to have to win back the starting job in 2024.

  • Mason Rudolph To Start In Week 18

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that quarterback Mason Rudolph will make a third straight start in Week 18 against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens, while also noting that Kenny Pickett's (ankle) health isn't in question. Rudolph looked good again in the 30-23 Week 17 win on the road in Seattle over the Seahawks on Sunday, going 18-for-24 for 274 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. While it wasn't really all that notable from a fantasy perspective, the 28-year-old has now led the Steelers to two important wins in a row and will keep the starting gig for the regular season finale despite the fact that Pickett has recovered from ankle surgery. Pittsburgh will likely continue to lean on their ground game and defense, making Rudolph a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers in superflex leagues that will still be playing for something in Week 18.

  • Mason Rudolph Throws For 274 Yards In Victory

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 18 of 24 pass attempts for 274 scoreless yards in a 30-23 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He also added five rushing yards on six carries. Although Rudolph did not find the end zone himself, he effectively led Pittsburgh's offense and did not turn the ball over. The Steelers are now 2-0 with Rudolph starting under center and have scored at least 30 points in two straight games. That said, the 28-year-old has certainly made his case to remain the starter regardless of Kenny Pickett's (ankle) availability next week. If Rudolph does retain QB1 duties, he'll have a difficult matchup against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens in Week 18.

  • Mason Rudolph Officially Named Week 17 Starter

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin officially named Mason Rudolph the starting quarterback for Week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Kenny Pickett (ankle) is nearing full health after requiring surgery for a sprained ankle, but the Steelers have elected to go with the hot hand and keep Rudolph as the starter under center after they beat the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals convincingly last Saturday. Rudolph went 17-for-27 in Week 16 for 290 yards and two touchdowns without any turnovers. If the 28-year-old plays well again against Seattle and picks up another win, it's possible the Steelers stick with Rudolph over Pickett heading into their Week 18 regular season finale against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens. While Rudolph did look good last weekend, he should still be considered more of a desperation QB2 in superflex leagues in Week 17.

  • Mason Rudolph Scheduled To Start Again In Week 17

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph is "scheduled to be the quarterback for the week," according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Similar to last week, the Steelers will see where Kenny Pickett (ankle) is as his ankle injury progresses. Pickett was listed as limited in Wednesday's practice. He had tightrope surgery on his ankle and has missed the last three games, so fantasy managers in two-QB leagues shouldn't be banking on him returning for a Week 17 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. The 28-year-old Rudolph looked good in his first start of the year in the Week 16 win over the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, going 17-for-27 for 290 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He'll face a test on the road in Seattle in his second straight start and should be considered a desperation QB2 in superflex league championship matchups.

  • Mason Rudolph Will Remain Starter In Week 17

    Headshot for Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph will draw his second consecutive start in Week 17 versus the Seattle Seahawks, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Pittsburgh has started three different quarterbacks this season with subpar results. Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett has taken most of Pittsburgh's reps at quarterback but hasn't played since Week 13 due to an ankle injury. Mitch Trubisky replaced Pickett but was eventually benched due to poor performance. That prompted Pittsburgh to roll out Rudolph for last Saturday's game against the Bengals. He led the Steelers to an upset victory, completing 17 passes for 290 yards, two touchdowns, and zero turnovers. It's worth noting that even if Pickett is cleared to play this week, Rudolph will start. The starting job is his to lose with two weeks left in the regular season and Pittsburgh still in the playoff hunt.

The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to extend head coach Mike Tomlin's contract this offseason, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. While Tomlin's job security has been a point of discussion in recent weeks, he and the team are reportedly preparing to spend several more years together. In fact, Florio notes that the veteran head coach has already been involved in roster planning for 2024 and 2025. The team's willingness to involve Tomlin in these decision-making processes corroborates the report that he'll be back for next season and beyond. Of course, it also helps that Tomlin's Steelers remain in the playoff hunt, especially after winning Saturday's divisional game against the Cincinnati Bengals with Mason Rudolph at quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 17 of his 27 pass attempts for 290 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a 34-11 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He added four rushing yards on two carries. Rudolph was sharp but aggressive on Saturday and frequently took shots down the field. The 28-year-old connected with George Pickens for scores of 86 and 66 yards and led Pittsburgh on two additional touchdown drives. With this performance, Rudolph became the first Steelers signal-caller to throw for 250 yards and two touchdowns since Ben Roethlisberger in Week 14 of the 2021-2022 campaign. It remains to be seen if Kenny Pickett (ankle) will be healthy enough to suit up next week, but Rudolph certainly played well enough to get the start against the Seattle Seahawks.

With Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett (ankle) officially being ruled out for Week 16, Mason Rudolph will make his first start of the year on Saturday against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals with Mitch Trubisky backing him up, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. The Steelers were leaving the door open for Pickett to return after missing the last two games due to a high-ankle sprain, but he just wasn't ready to go this weekend. This will be the 28-year-old Rudolph's first start in two seasons, so fantasy managers desperate for a second QB in superflex leagues shouldn't be expecting too much. Pickett will be hoping to make more progress and be cleared to start for the Steelers in a Week 17 matchup in Seattle against the Seahawks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will start quarterback Mason Rudolph on Saturday against the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. Mitchell Trubisky will be benched after a second straight poor performance in Week 15's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and regular starter Kenny Pickett (ankle) is still out due to injury. Rudolph entered in relief of the struggling Trubisky late in the fourth quarter on Saturday and went 2-for-3 for three yards. The 28-year-old will be making his first start of 2023. He's made only 10 starts in the NFL in his four seasons, with eight of them coming in his rookie year in Pittsburgh in 2019. There's no guarantee that Rudolph moves this offense any better than Trubisky did, so fantasy managers can't bank on the QB switch in Pittsburgh being a boost to any of the team's offensive skill players against the Bengals.
