QB # 2 (Tier 1)

Position Rankings

Rank Name Bye Age ADP1 PPG2 Comment
Tier 1
1 Patrick Mahomes, KC 12 26.0 2.10 28.7

Mike's Thoughts: In Superflex, I could see taking Mahomes over CMC. In 1QB leagues, I probably don't draft Mahomes at all unless he falls considerably (4th round).

2 Josh Allen, BUF 7 25.3 3.09 28.5

Mike's Thoughts: It is well documented how much Allen worked after the 2019 season that led to a huge improvement in 2020. So, I'm not expecting him to backslide in 2021. He hasn't got the weapons of Patrick Mahomes (Travis Kelce) and plays in a tougher division, but I don't see the drop-off from Mahomes as that significant. Drafted Allen 4.05 (35) in a 1QB 10-team best ball on 7/20. Drafted Allen 5.08 (56) in RazzBowl on 7/27.

Tier 2
3 Lamar Jackson, BAL 8 24.7 5.03 25.0
4 Aaron Rodgers, GB 13 37.8 5.09 27.2

Mike's Thoughts: Rodgers moves up on the news he is expected to play for the Packers this season. I might move him ahead of Murray, who could run less, but still want to be a bit careful with Rodgers in case the saga takes yet another turn. Not a major concern but the Packers will be motivated to get Jordan Love some game action at some point. Drafted Rodgers 1.12 (12) in 12-team Superflex best ball (FFPC format) in early-August.

  • Josh Allen Could Struggle Against Washington

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has not been able to get into a groove to start the 2021 season. He has thrown three passing touchdowns against two tough defenses, but it won't get easier in Week 3. Allen will face off against the Washington Football Team defense that allowed the second-fewest passing touchdown scores in the league last season. Through two games, Allen has only completed 33.3 percent of his pass attempts. Fantasy managers might have to deal with another dud from Allen before he gets an easier matchup to begin October.

  • Josh Allen Continues Slow Start To Season

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is coming off a tremendous 2020 campaign. That being said, fantasy managers expected Allen to be an elite fantasy option heading into this season. Sadly, Allen has come out of the gate slowly through two games. In Week 2, he completed 17-of-33 passing attempts for 179 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed five times for 35 yards on the ground in the blowout win over the Miami Dolphins. Fantasy managers shouldn't panic since Allen has been given two tough matchups to begin the season. It won't get much easier against the Washington Football Team in Week 3. Fantasy managers might have to deal with at least one more below average performance from Allen.

  • Josh Allen Should Rebound Versus Dolphins

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was fairly average during the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He threw for 270 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the loss. Allen gets another tough matchup against the Miami Dolphins secondary that allowed the second-fewest passing touchdowns last season. Despite that, Allen has a stacked set of wideouts and can get it done with both his run and legs. Fantasy managers should continue to trust Allen, but they shouldn't expect a three-touchdown type of performance out of him.

  • Josh Allen Gets Tough Assignment Week 1

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is no doubt one of the best options to have at QB this fantasy season. However, he'll get a tough matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense in Week 1. A secondary that allowed the third-fewest amount of passing yards in 2020. The Steelers didn't have any major changes on defense over the offseason, so they should remain a tough team defensive. That being said, Allen could have his share of struggles. Despite that, Allen remains a QB1, but fantasy managers might just get a sub-par outing Week 1 against a tough team.

  • Josh Allen Shines In Preseason Finale

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was nearly flawless during Saturday's preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers. Before we get carried away, Allen was facing the Packers second-team defense, so it wasn't the most difficult task for him. Nonetheless, he completed 20-of-26 passing attempts, 194 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in the win. The superstar quarterback doesn't appear to have missed a beat and should remain an elite QB1 for fantasy purposes heading into Week 1.

  • Josh Allen To Suit Up For Preseason Finale

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will play in the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers. Bills head coach Sean McDermott did not specify how long Allen will play in the finale, though. He did say that most of the starters will play, and the time will vary from player to player. This will be the first time Bills fans will watch Allen take the field after coming off his huge contract extension. Although Allen will play in the finale, fantasy managers should avoid him in DFS due to the fact that it's unlikely he'll play for more than a few offensive series. Mitchell Trubisky led the Bills last week to a win against the Chicago Bears and will likely see the field more than Allen on Saturday.

  • Josh Allen To Rest Versus Bears

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will not suit up for the preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed on Friday that the superstar quarterback will sit out the second preseason matchup. That being said, Mitchell Trubisky will get a chance to start against his former team. The former second overall pick signed with the Bills this past offseason to backup Allen. It sounds like a majority of the Bills veteran players and starters will be sitting during Saturday's game.

  • Josh Allen Signs Six-Year Contract Extension

The Buffalo Bills have signed quarterback Josh Allen to a six-year contract extension worth up to $258 million, with $150 million in guaranteed money. Coming off a career-best season, Allen will look to build on his somewhat surprising 2020 campaign where he finished as the overall QB1 in fantasy. With Stefon Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, and Gabriel Davis at his disposal, Allen is due for another monster season in Buffalo. In 2021, the only quarterback that is clearly ahead of him in terms of fantasy value is Patrick Mahomes. Allen is locked in as a top-5 quarterback and could be ranked as high as QB2 going into 2021. His rushing ability gives him a high weekly floor and a heightened ceiling.

  • Josh Allen Not Close To Contract Extension

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen does not appear close to a contract extension with the organization. The Bills exercised their fifth-year option on Allen to keep him under team control through 2022. It sounds like the two sides could break off talks before August 15 and wait until next offseason. Buffalo is likely going to wait and see what kind of extension Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield receive before signing Allen. A deal in the ballpark of $100 million guaranteed doesn't sound insane for an Allen extension down the road.

  • Can Josh Allen Keep Up With The Hype?

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen went above and beyond expectations last season. He threw for 4,544 passing yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Also, rushing 421 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Allen is a player that probably won't make it through the fifth round in most single-quarterback fantasy formats. A dual threat quarterback who was an MVP candidate last season. The Bills offense has slightly improved over the offseason. Allen is an obvious QB1 and fantasy managers might have to reach if they want him. The hype is real and Allen should continue being a top tier quarterback.

  • Josh Allen's Rushing Production May Be Dwindling

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is coming off the board at the start of the fourth round in single-quarterback leagues, but is he worth that cost as the second signal-caller behind Patrick Mahomes? Allen made major improvements as a passer in 2020 that helped elevate him to the elite QB1 level, but as he's progressed as a passer, his rushing production has dwindled. He has only rushed for fewer than 20 yards 13 times in the regular season in his career, and seven of those occurred last year. The 25-year-old is definitely a high-end QB1 after what he did in 2020, but some fantasy managers may prefer to take someone like Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson about a round later and still be guaranteed that rushing production.
