  • Baker Mayfield Has Poor Showing In Week 11

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 196 yards and two interceptions in a Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, adding 12 rushing yards on two carries. Mayfield struggled, to say the least, in his first start since Week 5 and did nothing to earn QB1 duties going forward. PJ Walker (ankle) is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and may miss a few more games, but it's becoming increasingly likely that Sam Darnold sees the field at some point this season. If Mayfield retains the starting job next week, he will have to face the stout Denver Broncos defense before a Week 13 bye. He should remain on fantasy waiver wires in most formats.

  • Baker Mayfield Not A Fantasy Option In Week 11

With PJ Walker (ankle) ruled out, Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield will get the start in a Week 11 bout with the Baltimore Ravens. Walker is dealing with a high ankle sprain, opening the door for Mayfield to retain the starting job should he have a strong showing on Sunday. The Ravens have given up the ninth-most fantasy points per contest to opposing quarterbacks, and Mayfield has thrown 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight career games against them. Although this is a matchup Mayfield could exploit, he has been far too inconsistent to be considered anything more than a desperation QB2 in superflex and two-quarterback leagues.

  • PJ Walker Has Ankle Sprain, Baker Mayfield To Start In Week 11

Carolina Panthers quarterback PJ Walker (ankle) has a high-ankle sprain, so Baker Mayfield will get the start in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens. Sam Darnold will serve as Mayfield's backup. Walker apparently suffered the ankle sprain in last Thursday's win over the Atlanta Falcons, and he'll miss at least one week and likely more. The Panthers don't have a timetable for his return, but we won't go on Injured Reserve. Mayfield came in to replace an ineffective Walker in Week 9 and went 14-for-20 for 155 yards and two touchdowns in garbage time, but he hasn't started a game since Week 5. The 27-year-old should give the Panthers offense more upside through the air, but he won't be anything more than a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues in Week 11 against an improving Baltimore defense.

  • Baker Mayfield Plays Second Half, Throws Two Touchdowns

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield took the field for the first time since Week 5 to relieve an ineffective PJ Walker in a 42-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Mayfield started the second half and completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns. With the game well under control by halftime, the Bengals played to protect the lead, but Mayfield was solid nonetheless. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to who is named the starter for the team's Week 10 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Neither quarterback is worth starting in any format, but it's important to note that wide receiver DJ Moore has been far less productive this season with Mayfield under center.

  • Baker Mayfield Replaces PJ Walker In Week 9

Carolina Panthers quarterback PJ Walker has been benched following an atrocious first half against the Cincinnati Bengals. Baker Mayfield took over to open the second half, looking to eat away at a brutal 35-point deficit. Neither player should be viewed as anything more than a QB3 in fantasy football going forward.

  • Latest On Panthers' QB Situation

The Panthers secured their first win of the Steve Wilks era today, doing so despite their unenviable injury situation at quarterback. That could change as early as next week. • Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold Could Return Next Week

Neither Carolina Panthers quarterbacks Baker Mayfield (ankle) nor Sam Darnold (ankle) will play in Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but both have a chance to return next week at the Atlanta Falcons as long as there are no setbacks at practice, according to sources. Darnold remains on Injured Reserve, but he could be activated late next week if the team feels he's ready. The bigger question is who the Panthers would go with as the starter under center if they are both ready to go. Mayfield has underwhelmed in his first five games with the team, completing a career-low 59.9 percent of his 153 pass attempts for 962 yards, four touchdowns and four picks. P.J. Walker is making his second straight start for the Panthers in Week 7 against the Bucs.

  • Baker Mayfield Out, Laviska Shenault Jr. Active

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) is officially inactive for Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (hamstring) is active. Mayfield was doubtful to play this weekend, and it remains to be seen if he'll be healthy enough to return to the starting role under center in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons. With Sam Darnold (ankle) still on Injured Reserve, P.J. Walker will make his second straight start at QB for the rebuilding Panthers. Shenault missed the last two games with a strained right hamstring, but he'll return with more opportunity in the passing attack after Carolina traded Robbie Anderson away this week. Still, Shenault will battling for playing time with Shi Smith, Terrace Marshall Jr. and Rashard Higgins, making him a deep-league dart throw.

  • Baker Mayfield Doubtful For Week 7

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) is listed as doubtful on the team's final injury report for a Week 7 bout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mayfield was able to practice in a limited fashion on both Thursday and Friday, so although a return is near, it is unlikely to be on Sunday. Even if Mayfield is surprisingly active, he will only be available as a backup with head coach Steve Wilks already announcing PJ Walker as the starter. Mayfield will hope to start in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, but he can be left on the waiver wire in one-QB redraft fantasy leagues.

  • Baker Mayfield Doesn't Practice On Wednesday

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) didn't practice on Wednesday. While he was seen recently without a walking boot, his absence from practice isn't an encouraging sign regarding his availability for Week 7 against the Buccaneers. Fantasy managers should prepare for P.J. Walker to make his second consecutive start. The 27-year-old threw 60 yards of 10-for-16 passing while rushing for negative yardage off his lone attempt before exiting due to injury. With that said, no one should consider Walker a suitable replacement for Mayfield, although neither of them belongs on fantasy rosters at this point.

  • Baker Mayfield Not In Walking Boot Monday

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) was not in a walking boot when he came into the team's locker room on Monday. Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 5 and was inactive for the Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. It's highly unlikely that he'll be active in Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, either. Sam Darnold (ankle) continues to rehab from an ankle injury of his own and remains on Injured Reserve, so it's fully expected that P.J. Walker will make his second straight start this weekend against Tampa. In his first start of the season against LA, Walker went 10-for-16 for just 60 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He'll be a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues if he makes another start against the Bucs.

  • Baker Mayfield Inactive Sunday

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) is officially inactive against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6. This comes as no surprise considering he had been listed as doubtful. P.J. Walker will start in his place. Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore are the only Carolina players with legitimate fantasy relevance this Sunday.

  • Baker Mayfield Doubtful To Play In Week 6

The Carolina Panthers have listed quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) as doubtful for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams. Mayfield did not take part in an official practice on Friday, and even if he's active on Sunday, he would serve as the backup to P.J. Walker in Week 6 action. The 27-year-old suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and it wouldn't be a surprise at all if he missed multiple games. If Mayfield is inactive, the Panthers would likely elevate Jacob Eason from the practice squad to serve as Walker's backup. Mayfield has played poorly in his first five games with the Panthers and isn't guaranteed to get his starting job back once he's healthy.

  • Baker Mayfield Misses Practice Wednesday

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) was listed as a non-participant in practice on Wednesday. This shouldn't come as a surprise at all after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Mayfield will avoid surgery on his ankle and isn't being ruled out for Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams, but he's highly unlikely to play this weekend. With Sam Darnold (ankle) still on Injured Reserve, P.J. Walker is in line to start under center for Carolina. With Walker set to play in Week 6, fantasy managers need to downgrade all of the Panthers offensive skill players against a tough Rams defense.

Oct 12 · Source via Panthers Baker Mayfield
  • Panthers Not Ruling Baker Mayfield Out For Sunday Just Yet

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) suffered a high-ankle sprain and will avoid surgery. However, the Panthers are leaving the door open for him to return to action as soon as this week. The injury typically sidelines players for multiple weeks, but the organization noted that he played the entire second half of Sunday's game against the 49ers despite the ailment. While the probability of the 27-year-old suiting up this week remains low, it does bode well for a possible return next week, or at least sooner rather than later. Fantasy managers are best to move forward under the assumption that P.J. Walker will be under center, which means a slight downgrade for the offensive weapons.

Oct 12 · Source via Panthers Baker Mayfield
  • Baker Mayfield To Avoid Surgery

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) received second opinions on his high-ankle sprain that confirmed he's not dealing with major damage and no surgery is needed, according to sources. Mayfield will not go on Injured Reserve as of now, leaving open the possibility that he could return within four games. Sam Darnold (ankle) isn't ready to come off Injured Reserve with an ankle injury of his own, so it will be P.J. Walker starting under center for the Panthers in the first game without head coach Matt Rhule in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams. Walker will be making just his third NFL start, so all of Carolina's offensive weapons should be downgraded by fantasy managers. Mayfield could be facing competition from Darnold for the starting job once he's ready to return from his high-ankle sprain.

  • Baker Mayfield To Miss Time With Ankle Sprain

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, according to sources. It means that he'll have to miss some time, but how much will be determined by more tests and opinions. With Sam Darnold (ankle) still not ready to return from Injured Reserve, P.J. Walker is in line to start in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams and their tough defense. Mayfield has a career-low 71.9 QB rating through his first four games in Carolina with 962 passing yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions on 153 attempts through five games. There's a chance the Panthers could go back to Darnold if he recovers from his ankle injury before Mayfield is able to return from his high-ankle sprain.

  • X-Rays Come Back Negative On Baker Mayfield

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (foot) had X-rays on his left foot after the Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but the X-rays came back negative. He will undergo an MRI exam on Monday to determine the extent of the injury after he left the stadium in a walking boot on Sunday. The 27-year-old signal-caller had another rough game against a tough Niners defense, going 20-for-36 for 215 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in the 37-15 loss. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to play in Week 6 against another tough defense in the Los Angeles Rams. If Mayfield isn't cleared, it would most likely be P.J. Walker under center for the Panthers. Sam Darnold (ankle) isn't likely to be ready to come off Injured Reserve in Week 6.

  • Baker Mayfield Dealing With Ankle Injury

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield (ankle) was spotted wearing a walking boot following the team's blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Mayfield was replaced by veteran backup PJ Walker late in the contest and stated afterward that he was in pain but unsure of the severity of the injury. An MRI will be performed early this week to determine if the fifth-year signal-caller will need to miss any time. With Sam Darnold (ankle) still likely a few weeks away from returning, Walker would be in line for his first start of the season against the Los Angeles Rams if Mayfield is sidelined next week.

  • Baker Mayfield Benched In Week 5 Loss

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 215 yards and one interception in a 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Mayfield was also sacked four times before being pulled for PJ Walker in the fourth quarter. The 27-year-old has been putrid on the field and for fantasy purposes so far this season. Many fans are calling for the Panthers to fire head coach Matt Rhule, but Mayfield's job security has to be in question at this point as well. Although Sam Darnold (ankle) is reportedly not close to returning, it seems possible that Walker could be named the starter if the team runs out of patience. Mayfield should not be rostered in any single-quarterback fantasy formats.

  • Baker Mayfield Should Be Avoided In Week 5

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield has been unproductive for fantasy so far this season and could struggle to turn things around in a Week 5 bout with the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco has been the most difficult matchup for opposing quarterbacks through four weeks this season as they are allowing fewer than 10 fantasy points per game to the position. Mayfield has failed to exceed 200 yards passing or one touchdown in three straight games and the Panthers could opt to start Sam Darnold(ankle) when he is activated from Injured Reserve. Mayfield is only worth a roster spot in superflex or two-QB fantasy formats, and he's a desperation low-end QB2 in starting lineups this week.

  • Panthers Sticking With Baker Mayfield

Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule told reporters on Monday that he's sticking with Baker Mayfield as his quarterback after the Week 4 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Rhule added that Sam Darnold (ankle) is still not ready to return from his high-ankle sprain. Darnold reportedly isn't close to coming off Injured Reserve, so the struggling Mayfield will have a little more leash as the starter under center. The 27-year-old has gone 64-for-117 for 747 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in his first four games with the Panthers. Mayfield is averaging a career-low 6.4 yards per attempt and 186.8 yards per game. He'll remain a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues going forward, and if he's still struggling when Darnold is healthy enough to return, the Panthers could be compelled to make a switch.

  • Baker Mayfield Continues To Struggle In Week 4 Loss

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 22 of his 36 pass attempts for 197 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 26-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He also lost a fumble in the second quarter. Despite throwing and completing the most passes he has all season, this was the third consecutive game in which Mayfield failed to reach 200 yards through the air. Mayfield had a soft matchup on paper as the Cardinals were bottom-10 in the league against fantasy quarterbacks heading into the week. This performance further cements Mayfield's inability to be trusted in any fantasy league. He is only worth rostering in two-quarterback or superflex formats but will not be a viable option in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.

  • Baker Mayfield - Week 4 Outlook For Fantasy Football

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield will look to bounce back after a slow start to the season in a Week 4 home matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. The Panthers' offense has struggled to move the ball and score, but there is a chance they get things going this week against a Cardinals defense that is surrendering the second-most points per game in the NFL with 29. Better yet for Mayfield's prospects, most of the damage against Arizona has been through the air as they rank bottom-10 against opposing fantasy quarterbacks and allow the third-most passing yards per game. Mayfield cannot be trusted as a starting option in single-quarterback leagues but could be a serviceable low-end QB2 this week in superflex or two-QB formats.

  • Baker Mayfield Quiet In Week 3 Win

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 12 of his 25 pass attempts for 170 yards and one touchdown in a 22-14 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Despite the win, the struggles continue for Mayfield, who has completed less than 15 passes in two straight games. No Panthers finished with more than two receptions in Week 3. The Saints weren't an easy matchup, but it is still clear at this point that the offensive weapons in Carolina are not seeing a boost in fantasy value with Mayfield under center. He is not an ideal starter in any format but should continue to be rostered as a low-end QB2 in superflex or two-quarterback leagues.

  • Baker Mayfield - Week 3 Outlook For Fantasy Football

Quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers' offense have struggled to open the season and things won't get any easier in their Week 3 divisional bout with the New Orleans Saints. This will be Mayfield's first career start against the Saints, who just limited Tom Brady to a bottom-five fantasy finish last week. Mayfield is averaging just 190 passing yards and one passing touchdown per game through the first two weeks, so it's hard to have any sort of confidence in him going forward. Unless he starts to turn things around, Mayfield should not be considered in single-quarterback leagues and can be left on waivers. He is best viewed as a low-end QB2 in superflex and two-quarterback formats.

  • Baker Mayfield - Week 2 Outlook For Fantasy Football

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield will look to improve on his lackluster Week 1 performance in a Week 2 away bout with the New York Giants. Emotions surely had an impact on Mayfield in his Panthers debut as he played his former team, the Cleveland Browns, but he wasn't bad for fantasy. Perhaps he will be able to focus more and have a stronger showing against a Giants defense that allowed a top-12 finish to Ryan Tannehill last week. Still, Mayfield is a low-end QB2 for now and should only be viewed as a viable option in superflex/two-QB leagues.

  • Baker Mayfield Scores Twice, Falls Just Short Of Victory

Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 16 of his 27 passing attempts for 235 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in his regular-season debut against the Cleveland Browns. He also added a rushing touchdown and six rushing yards. Mayfield and the Panthers struggled early but fought their way back in the second half. He connected with Robbie Anderson on a 75-yard touchdown then led the offense to a field goal that gave them a 24-23 lead in the fourth quarter, only for Carolina to lose on a 58-yard field goal by Cleveland with seconds left on the clock. Mayfield continues to project as a low-end QB2 for fantasy that only deserves a roster spot in superflex/two-QB leagues.

  • Baker Mayfield Will Seek Revenge In Debut With Panthers

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to make his regular-season debut for the Carolina Panthers in a Week 1 home matchup against his former team, the Cleveland Browns. The Browns' defense was bottom-five in passing yards allowed in 2021, so this won't be an easy first test for the Panthers' new signal-caller. Mayfield is coming off his worst fantasy season in which he only delivered two top-12 performances. Revenge will surely be on his mind, but Mayfield is a risky QB2 option and is off the fantasy radar this week in single-QB formats.
