Baker Mayfield Has Tough Challenge In Week 4

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was unable to find much success last week during the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It's unlikely going to get easier for Mayfield against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4. A defensive unit that has done a nice job of holding opposing quarterbacks in check early in the season. It's worth noting that Mayfield has been able to limit the turnovers, which is good to see. However, Mayfield remains a low-end QB2 for this upcoming matchup.

Baker Mayfield Quiet In Loss

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was exceeding expectations coming into the Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the former first-round pick struggled during Monday's loss to Philly. He completed 15-of-25 passing attempts for 146 yards with a touchdown and one interception in the 25-11 loss. His lone turnover was a bad interception where Mayfield made a bad read on the play. The hope is that Mayfield rebounds versus the New Orleans Saints in Week 4. He'll remain on the QB2 radar for that game.

Baker Mayfield Remains A QB2 For Week 3

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming off his first 300-yard passing game in nearly two years. So far, the Mayfield experiment has worked out for the Bucs through the first two games of the season. Heading into Week 3, Mayfield has thrown for nearly 500 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Now, he'll head into a Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. A defensive unit that has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season. Despite that, the Eagles still have a dangerous defense, so Mayfield should be considered a QB2 for this game.

Baker Mayfield Throws For Over 300 Yards

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield decided to air it out versus the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The former No. 1 overall pick had lofty expectations after taking over for Tom Brady under center this season. However, Mayfield has stepped up and delivered through the first two weeks of the season. On Sunday, Mayfield completed 26-of-34 passing attempts for 317 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 victory over the Bears. Mayfield made easy work of the Bears' secondary that lost both their starting safeties during the middle of this game. Nonetheless, Mayfield has done a solid job, but will have a tough test versus the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3. He'll remain in the QB2 territory for that game.

Baker Mayfield A Possible QB2

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming off a fairly impressive showing during the season opener. The former No. 1 overall pick completed 21-of-34 passing attempts for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Minnesota Vikings. He'll look to carry that momentum into his next contest versus the Chicago Bears in Week 2. A defensive unit that allowed Jordan Love to throw for 245 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1. That being said, fantasy managers should treat Mayfield as a QB2 heading into this contest. Mayfield is beginning to gain trust from fantasy managers, but he still needs to show more consistency.

Mayfield, Godwin 'seal the game' for Buccaneers

In his debut with his fourth NFL club, Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield lifted the Buccaneers to a 20-17 victory over the Vikings on Sunday, with the veteran saying it "wasn't our prettiest effort by any means, but we finished the right way."
Sep 11 · ESPN Buccaneers Baker MayfieldBaker Mayfield Holds His Own In Week 1

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield got off to a slow start during Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Mayfield airmailed some throws early in the game, but settled in towards the end of the first half. He connected with Mike Evans for a touchdown before halftime. After that, Mayfield hit rookie Trey Palmer in the end zone to help give the Bucs the lead. Mayfield completed 21-of-34 passing attempts for 173 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the three-point victory. Mayfield was able to make some crucial throws and avoid turnovers. He'll remain a QB2 for Week 2 against the Chicago Bears.

Offseason In Review: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sticking with their all-in approach around Tom Brady a year too long, the Buccaneers still benefited considerably from their 2020 free agency coup. The franchise added a second Super Bowl title and saw Brady display better form in 2021. Brady’s unretirement helped the Bucs stay atop the NFC South, but it took a historically terrible […]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to make his team debut against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The former No. 1 overall pick has experienced some highs and lows early in his career. The hope is that a change of scenery will help Mayfield get back on track. The good news is that Mayfield looked strong during the preseason. It's also worth noting that he has a favorable matchup against the Vikings in Week 1. A defense that allowed the fifth-most fantasy points last season. Possibly, Mayfield can get new life in Tampa Bay, but he hasn't done enough to earn the trust of fantasy managers. He'll be a low-end QB2 for Week 1, so he'll really only be a possible streaming option in two-QB leagues.

Baker Mayfield Completes All Six Passing Attempts

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was able to finish the preseason on a high note. On Saturday, Mayfield completed all six of his passing attempts for 43 yards and a touchdown in the win over the Baltimore Ravens. Mayfield already has the starting gig locked up and showed why during this game. He ended his night with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin. Now, Baker and the Bucs get two weeks to prepare for their Week 1 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

Buccaneers Name Baker Mayfield The Starter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles announced on Tuesday that the team will go with Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. The former No. 1 overall pick beat out Kyle Trask for the right to succeed Tom Brady, and he will start the season opener in Week 1 on Sept. 10 against the Minnesota Vikings. Trask pushed Mayfield a bit in training camp, but ultimately Mayfield, as expected, won the job. The 28-year-old will have to play well early on, though, to avoid losing the gig to Trask. He has two solid receiving options in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but nobody is expecting Mayfield to be Brady in 2023. Mayfield could have some impressive performances, but we're expecting more inconsistency for the most part as a low-end QB2 option in superflex fantasy leagues.

Latest On Buccaneers' QB Competition

With Anthony Richardson having won the starting job for the Colts, the quarterback competition in Tampa Bay is the lone remaining one around the league where the winner cannot at least be comfortably assumed. Plenty is yet to be determined regarding where Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask emerge in the pecking order. At the onset of training camp, the Buccaneers split […]
Aug 16 · Pro Football Rumors Buccaneers Baker Mayfield Kyle TraskBaker Mayfield Impressive In Preseason Opener

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield made his team debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the preseason opener on Friday. The 28-year-old started in the first half and surprisingly played very well. He completed 8-of-9 passing attempts for 63 yards and a touchdown. The score was a back corner touchdown pass to sixth-round rookie Trey Palmer. This was a solid start for Mayfield's career in Tampa Bay considering he was mainly playing with backups. He's competing with Kyle Trask who came in and struggled after Mayfield departed from this contest. After one game, it appears Mayfield has the edge over Trask for the starting gig.

Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask Co-Starters On Initial Depth Chart

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have listed Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask as co-starters on their initial depth chart ahead of their preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. Mayfield and Trask have been locked in a head-to-head competition for the starting QB role during training camp, and remain neck-and-neck as the Bucs kick off their preseason slate of games. Mayfield appeared to be in the lead early on in camp but has reportedly struggled with interceptions of late. Trask has reportedly shown improvement this summer and has gained ground on Mayfield due to his strong decision-making and big plays in camp. Trask remains in the mix to win the job over Mayfield if he performs well in the team's three preseason contests. Stay tuned.

Kyle Trask Has Closed The Gap In QB Competition

At mandatory minicamp seven weeks ago, it looked like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback job was Baker Mayfield's to lose by a wide margin. However, Kyle Trask has come to training camp considerably improved. He's much more decisive with the ball, is making quick decisions and big plays each day and is closing the gap between himself and Mayfield considerably. Mayfield and Trask are alternating first-team repetitions and will do the same for preseason starts before the team comes to a decision eventually during the preseason. Mayfield has the experience edge in the NFL, but Trask has a better understanding of the offense. Either way, whoever wins the job to begin the season will be nothing more than a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues with a low fantasy ceiling.

Baker Mayfield To Start First Preseason Game

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield will start the team's preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to sources. Kyle Trask will then start the second preseason game against the New York Jets. The two signal-callers have been rotating first-team repetitions through the offseason and into training camp this summer. Most accounts of Tampa's QB battle in camp have favored Mayfield, mainly because of his experience in the NFL compared to that of Trask. The 28-year-old was mostly inefficient in his time with the Panthers and Rams in 2022. He'll have solid weapons to work with in the passing game, but fantasy managers can't realistically expect him to be anything more than a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues if he wins the starting gig over Trask to open the year.

Buccaneers QBs Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask Splitting First-Team Reps

The Buccaneers are continuing the evaluation process of their quarterback competition, one which has not been met with much fanfare considering the pedigree of Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask compared to predecessor Tom Brady. Both of the candidates are receiving considerable looks with the first-team offense. Tamp Bay is alternating Mayfield and Trask with the starters and backups during practice, […]
Aug 4 · Pro Football Rumors Buccaneers Baker Mayfield Kyle TraskBaker Mayfield Holds Momentum In QB Competition

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has held much of the momentum so far in training camp in the QB competition against Kyle Trask. Mayfield has command of the offense and is considered better-suited to run a Dave Canales offense, which features more play-action and throws on the move. However, Trask has come on strong in recent days. The battle needs more time to play out, and the Bucs don't seem to be in a rush to name a starter. This is a competition that probably will run the course of the preseason, so we won't have an official starter until then. Mayfield, the former No. 1 overall pick, just has so much more experience than Trask. It would feel like an upset if Trask won the gig to begin the regular season, but Mayfield will have to play well to hold him off.

Baker Mayfield With An Edge In QB Competition?

ESPN's Dan Graziano thinks Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield's experience will give him the edge in the team's QB competition this summer against Kyle Trask. Mayfield, the first overall pick in 2018, has gone 32-29 as an NFL starter over five years with three different teams. Meanwhile, Trask has thrown nine career passes since he was drafted by Tampa in the second round in 2021. Mayfield finished nicely with the Rams following a failed stint in Carolina last year, but he still finished last in the league in total QBR (24.6) and completion percentage over expectation (minus-6.9%). Trask knows the system better, but he has only seen the field in mop-up duty. Mayfield seems like the favorite for this battle, but he's probably only going to be a low-end QB2, at best, in superflex fantasy leagues if he wins the job.

Jul 27 · ESPN Buccaneers Baker Mayfield Kyle TraskBaker Mayfield Wants To Retire With Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, the first overall pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2018, wants to stay with the team for as long as possible. "He's looking for a place where he can hopefully play well and finish out his career and play to the level of expectations that were placed on him when he was the No. 1 overall pick," former NFL general manager Rick Spielman said. Mayfield will be competing with Kyle Trask for the starting QB gig in 2023 now that Tom Brady is retired, and the Bucs are willing to take all of training camp and the preseason to name the starter. The 28-year-old had his ups and downs last year with the Panthers and Rams, and he figures to be more of the same in Tampa if he wins the job.
