  • Kendre Miller Questionable To Return In Week 9

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Orleans rookie running back Kendre Miller (ankle) is officially questionable to return in Week 9 versus the Chicago Bears. He departed in the second half after totaling one rush, one catch, and 31 receiving yards. This injury has minimal implications for fantasy football or the Saints' backfield. Jamaal Williams will continue to operate as Alvin Kamara's backup.

  • Jamaal Williams Slated To Work In Behind Alvin Kamara

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams has played a secondary role to Alvin Kamara since returning from the IR in Week 7, as he has averaged just six touches a game. That role should not change in Week 9, and Williams remains a handcuff option for Kamara. In truly desperate situations, he can be fired up as a touchdown-dependent flex option due to the run-funnel nature of the Bears' defense and the potential of this game getting out of hand. Williams is a very risky play, given that he likely won't see significant enough volume to warrant a productive fantasy game.

  • Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller Were Limited In Week 7

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running backs Jamaal Williams (hamstring) and Kendre Miller (shoulder) both had their snaps limited in last Thursday night's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Williams had just been activated from Injured Reserve, while Miller dealt with irritation in his shoulder during pregame workouts. It resulted in Alvin Kamara seeing a whopping 29 touches (17 carries, 12 receptions) for 153 all-purpose yards in the 31-24 loss. Williams played 22% of the snaps and had five carries for 14 yards. Miller played only three total snaps and didn't have a touch. The 21-year-old should see more playing time when healthy, but it's hard to imagine him being fantasy relevant unless one of Kamara or Williams are injured.

  • Jamaal Williams Has Small Role In Loss To Jaguars

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

As expected, New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams had a limited role in the 31-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night in his first game back from Injured Reserve. In his first action since injuring his hamstring in Week 2, Williams played just 22 percent of the offensive snaps and had five carries for 14 yards. He was not involved in the passing game. Williams played ahead of rookie Kendre Miller (only three snaps), but he was behind bell-cow back Alvin Kamara by a wide margin, as Kamara had 17 carries and 29 total touches as the workhorse of this offense. The 28-year-old Williams could be more involved in the coming weeks, but he still probably won't have much standalone fantasy appeal as long as Kamara continues to dominate touches in this lackluster offense.

  • Jamaal Williams Making His Return Thursday Night

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) is officially active for Thursday Night Football against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars for the first time since Week 2 after he was activated from Injured Reserve earlier in the day. Williams was forced to miss four games after injuring his hamstring in Week 2. He's back now, but the Saints backfield is dramatically different than when Williams was healthy for the first two games of the regular season. Alvin Kamara is now New Orleans' clear workhorse back, and rookie Kendre Miller is also healthy as a complement. Williams will most likely be eased back in on Thursday night against Jacksonville, so we don't recommend him as a flex play in Week 7 in his first game back.

  • Jamaal Williams Activated From Injured Reserve

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

The New Orleans Saints activated running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) from Injured Reserve on Thursday and waived running back Jordan Mims in a corresponding move. The Saints also elevated offensive tackle Cameron Erving and linebacker Jaylon Smith from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster and signed offensive guard Tommy Kraemer to the active roster from the practice squad. Williams is expected to return for the first time since Week 2 for Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars despite being listed as questionable. Even if the 28-year-old is active, though, he won't be a recommended Week 7 flex. Williams will likely be limited in what could become a three-headed monster between Williams, Alvin Kamara and rookie Kendre Miller.

  • Jamaal Williams Expected To Play On Thursday Night Football

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) is expected to be activated off of injured reserve in time to suit up for Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The veteran has spent the last four games on the shelf with the hamstring issue. He picked up three straight limited practices this week. Williams will slide into a backup role behind starter Alvin Kamara. Rookie Kendre Miller may mix in as well. Williams is worthy of a spot on fantasy football rosters but does not need to be in any starting lineups.

  • Jamaal Williams Questionable For Week 7

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) was listed as a limited practice participant all week and is questionable to make his return in Week 7 on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It remains to be seen if Williams will be activated from Injured Reserve in order to play on Thursday after the Saints opened his 21-day practice window on Tuesday. If the 28-year-old were to return in New Orleans, he'd likely be sparingly mixed back into the Saints backfield with Alvin Kamara and rookie Kendre Miller. Williams was the Saints' lead back to open the year with Kamara suspended, but he'll merely be returning to backup duties once he's back up to full speed health-wise.

  • Saints Designate RB Jamaal Williams For Return

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

The Saints should soon have their intended running backs grouping on the active roster. • Jamaal Williams Designated To Return From Injured Reserve

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

The New Orleans Saints designated running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) to return from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, which means they now have 21 days to officially activate him and return him to the 53-man active roster. The Saints listed Williams as limited on Monday's estimated practice report, and he was limited again in Tuesday's walkthrough in his return to practice. Depending on how he looks on Wednesday, the Saints could activate him from IR so that he can be active on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 28-year-old began the year as the Saints' primary RB with Alvin Kamara suspended. He carried the ball 27 times for 74 yards (2.7 yards per tote) in two games and will eventually return looking for scraps behind Kamara, who has dominated backfield touches the last three weeks.

  • Jamaal Williams Nearing A Return From Injured Reserve?

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

The New Orleans Saints listed running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) as limited on Monday's estimated practice report heading into the team's Week 7 contest on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Saints didn't actually practice on Monday, but the fact that Williams was listed as limited suggests that the team could open his 21-day window to be activated from Injured Reserve this week. Williams has missed the last four games while on IR with a hamstring strain. In the 28-year-old's absence, Alvin Kamara has played three games as the unquestioned bell-cow back after serving a three-game suspension. Kamara has a whopping 52 carries for 199 yards and a touchdown while catching 23 of 25 targets for 86 yards, so there may not be much for Williams when he does eventually come off IR.

  • Jamaal Williams Placed On Injured Reserve

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) was placed on injured serve. The veteran running back will miss at least the next four games. Williams suffered the hamstring injury in the team's Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. With the veteran out this week, Kendre Miller, Toney Jones Jr., and Taysom Hill will handle the backfield duties against the Green Bay Packers. Thankfully, Alvin Kamara's three-game suspension ends Monday morning. Fantasy players can drop Williams in redraft leagues if needed. The former Detroit Lion has 27 rushing attempts for only 74 yards and two receptions for seven receiving yards this season. When he returns, Williams will have a limited role with Kamara and Miller healthy.

  • Jamaal Williams Ruled Out With Hamstring Issue

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Week 3 game against the Green Bay Packers. With the veteran back sidelined for this contest, rookie Kendre Miller and backup Tony Jones Jr. look to split the backfield work. The Saints haven't been able to get much going on the ground so far this year, as Williams has only posted 74 yards on 27 carries. Both Miller and Jones are hard to trust in this offense and shouldn't be on the fantasy radar unless for those managers who might be in desperate need of backfield help.

  • Jamaal Williams Trending In The Wrong Direction

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) was not spotted at the team's practice on Thursday for the second straight day. Williams was injured in Monday night's win over the Carolina Panthers and is expected to miss some time. Fantasy managers that have used him in their starting lineups for the first two weeks will need to pivot elsewhere when the Saints face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Alvin Kamara is suspended for one more game, so the Saints will roll with a backfield this weekend that will consist of Tony Jones Jr., Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill and rookie Kendre Miller, who will be making his NFL debut. Hill led the team in rushing in Week 2, but Jones had two goal-line touchdowns after Williams left the game.

  • Jamaal Williams Misses Practice Wednesday

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

As expected, New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) was unable to practice on Wednesday after getting hurt in Monday night's Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Saints said on Monday that Williams will likely need some time to recover from his injury, so the full expectation is that he will not suit up in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers on the road. Fantasy managers that had been using the 28-year-old in their starting lineups the first two weeks will need to pivot for at least the next week. Alvin Kamara has one more game on his suspension, so Tony Jones Jr. should lead the Saints' backfield this weekend after scoring two touchdowns on Monday night. However, Taysom Hill (knee) should remain involved, while rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) is on track to make his NFL debut.

  • Jamaal Williams Will Need Some Time To Recover From Hamstring Injury

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) is expected to need some time to recover from his hamstring injury, according to Adam Schefter. Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters that Williams would need "some time" to heal from the hamstring injury that he suffered during Monday night's win over the Carolina Panthers. While no timetable was given, it sounds like Williams is definitely out for Week 3, and most likely longer. He was operating as the Saints' bell cow prior to his injury with both Alvin Kamara (suspension) and rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) being sidelined. Practice squad call-up Tony Jones Jr. scored a pair of touchdowns on MNF after Williams exited but the Saints should be getting Miller back for their Week 3 matchup against the Packers. Expect New Orleans to use a combination of Miller, Taysom Hill, and Jones in the run game. All three options are hard to trust outside of deep leagues, however.

  • Jamaal Williams Considered Doubtful To Return Against Panthers

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) is now considered doubtful to return to Monday night's contest against the Panthers. He was considered questionable coming into the second half, but as the fourth quarter winds down, it's looking less likely that he will return. Tony Jones Jr. and Taysom Hill have taken over the running duties in this game while rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) is still on the mend and Alvin Kamara is still serving his three-game suspension. The team is still looking into how serious his hamstring issue really is and fantasy managers will want to stay tuned because their backfield could be very thin if he has to miss any more time.

  • Jamaal Williams Questionable To Return Monday Night

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams (hamstring) was injured on Monday night against the Carolina Panthers and is questionable to return. It's unclear when Williams injured himself, but he left the field to be evaluated further in the locker room and it's unclear if he'll return again. Before departing with the hamstring injury, Williams saw nine carries for 29 yards and wasn't targeted at all in the passing game. Rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) has yet to make his NFL debut and Alvin Kamara has one more game on his three-game suspension, so the Saints' backfield would be dangerously thin if Williams' injury is serious. Tony Jones Jr. is the next man up, although Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill could be the team's top ball-carrier with Williams out.

  • Jamaal Williams - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams had a heavy workload last week but struggled to get anything going against a stout Titans defensive front. Williams should see a similar workload this week even if Kendre Miller (hamstring) is good to go, and Carolina is a more favorable matchup. The Panthers surrendered 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns to Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier last week, and New Orleans may commit to the run in this game. Williams is am RB2 this week.

    Headshot for Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams broke fantasy football last season, running for 1,066 yards and a league-leading 17 rushing touchdowns in what was by far the best season of his six-year career. This season, the 28-year-old running back will be a workhorse through the first three games in New Orleans as he fills in for a suspended Alvin Kamara. While rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) should see some work if he is healthy, do not hesitate to throw Williams into lineups this week. He should be starting in all formats.
