Fantasy Advice

Kamara receives only a 3 game suspension, when the fantasy community expected something in the 5-8 range. That's good. His performance last year, however, was not. With his stellar track record, I'm willing to give some benefit of the doubt it was an off year. Derek Carr should help, while plodding Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller (currently injured with a knee sprain) shouldn't be too much concern to cut into Kamara's role.

  • New Offensive Coordinator Could Benefit Alvin Kamara

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill believes that New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is going to bring a running game that will give running back Alvin Kamara "more space" to operate in 2024. Kubiak, who comes to New Orleans from the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to add plenty of pre-snap motion, something the Saints rarely did in 2023. The 28-year-old Kamara finished second among all RBs last year with 75 catches on 86 targets for 466 yards and a touchdown through the air. He added 180 rushing attempts for 694 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, so perhaps the addition of Kubiak will make Kamara more productive on the ground next season. Still, fantasy managers should have hesitations about Kamara's overall effectiveness as a rusher as he enters his age-29 campaign in 2024.

  • Saints Working To Hire Klint Kubiak As Offensive Coordinator

    Headshot for Derek Carr

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly working to hire San Francisco 49ers passing-game specialist Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator, according to sources. Kubiak would join the Saints' coaching staff after he coaches his final game with the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, Feb. 11, against the Kansas City Chiefs. No deal can be finalized until after the Super Bowl. The 36-year-old becomes the latest Kyle Shanahan disciple to go elsewhere after having success with the Niners. He's the son of former Broncos and Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, who led Denver to a Super Bowl 50 win in 2015. Klint will be replacing Pete Carmichael, who spend the last 15 seasons as the Saints' OC. He has experience as the primary play-caller and will now work with an offense that includes Derek Carr, Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave.

  • Alvin Kamara Inactive For Week 18

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) is inactive for Week 18 versus the Atlanta Falcons, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. The star playmaker had been listed as questionable but was trending in the wrong direction after missing three consecutive practices this past week. In his absence, Jamaal Williams will suit up as the Saints' starting running back. He figures to occupy an every-down role, putting him in the RB2 tier for fantasy purposes this Sunday.

  • Alvin Kamara Will Be Game-Time Call Sunday

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) will be a game-time decision in Week 18, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He had been listed as questionable after missing all three practices this week. While playing less than two days after missing practice would represent a very quick turnaround, it looks like Kamara at least has a chance to suit up. If he does play, he could do so on a snap count, leading to more opportunities for Jamaal Williams. As of now, Williams ranks as a low-end RB3 whose value would instantly rise if Kamara is ruled out. The Saints will announce their inactive players 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

  • Alvin Kamara To Be A Game-Time Decision Sunday

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) will be listed as questionable for the Week 18 regular season finale against the visiting Atlanta Falcons, and head coach Dennis Allen said Kamara will be a game-time decision on Sunday. "Alvin is one of the guys so valuable to our team, we'll take it all the way up to game time," Allen said. Kamara sprained his ankle in the Week 17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is in danger of sitting out of a must-win game to close out the regular season. The good news is we'll know Sunday morning if he's able to play, and the 28-year-old workhorse back will still be a reliable high-floor DFS RB this weekend if he's active. If he doesn't get the green light, expect Jamaal Williams and Taysom Hill to be the Saints' primary rushing options. In Week 12 against Atlanta, Kamara had 15 carries for 69 yards and four catches for 50 yards.

  • Alvin Kamara Absent Again Thursday

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) missed practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday due to a sprained ankle he suffered in the Week 17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even in a must-win game this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Kamara isn't a lock to play if he cannot get back onto the practice field on Friday. Not having Kamara in the fold would be a big blow for the Saints offense in an important game. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Friday for the 28-year-old's final Week 18 status. If he's active Sunday, he's a must-start for those still competing for a fantasy championship in season-long leagues. If Kamara cannot go, Jamaal Williams and quarterback/tight end hybrid Taysom Hill would likely split the backfield duties.

  • Alvin Kamara Not Seen At Wednesday's Practice

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) was not seen practicing with the rest of the team on Wednesday. Kamara sprained his ankle in the Week 17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is now up in the air for the Week 18 regular season finale in a must-win game at home against the Atlanta Falcons. The 28-year-old is going to need to return to practice on Thursday or Friday to be a realistic option to play this weekend. If Kamara doesn't end up being cleared to play against Atlanta, Jamaal Williams will serve as the team's backfield leader, although quarterback/tight end hybrid Taysom Hill would also likely see a heavy dose of rushing attempts. If Kamara ends up suiting up, he'll be a must-start in all fantasy lineups in Week 18.

  • Alvin Kamara Is Day-To-Day

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) is truly day-to-day after spraining his ankle in the Week 17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to sources. He'll have a chance to play in Week 18 against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Jan. 7, but it's too early right now to know for sure. The Saints and fantasy managers should have a better idea of Kamara can play this weekend after they get in a few practices, starting on Wednesday. If it's a high-ankle sprain, the 28-year-old would be unlikely to play a week later. But in a must-win game in order to make it into the playoffs, perhaps Kamara will suit up at less than 100 percent. If he's active, he should be started in all fantasy lineups if you're still playing for a championship. If Kamara cannot go in Week 18, Jamaal Williams would line up as the Saints' starting RB.

About three weeks after we heard that Saints head coach Dennis Allen could be on the hot seat, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL.com offer a contrasting view. Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) has been downgraded to out for the remainder of Week 17 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had initially been listed as questionable after exiting during the second half. At the time of his departure, the star running back had amassed 45 rushing and four receiving yards. With both Kamara and Kendre Miller (ankle) sidelined, Jamaal Williams is the Saints' only healthy running back. However, the rushing attack could also get some support from Swiss army knife Taysom Hill.

  • Alvin Kamara Active For Week 17

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (illness) will play in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite being listed as questionable, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Kamara was added to the injury report after missing Friday's practice, but he was trending in the right direction prior to kickoff and will ultimately suit up. The 28-year-old has looked great this season, totaling 649 rushing yards, 462 receiving yards, and six touchdowns through 12 games. Despite missing three weeks due to a suspension, he still ranks as the overall RB7 in fantasy football and should continue to be started in all leagues this Sunday.

  • Alvin Kamara Expected To Be Active In Week 17

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (illness) is expected to get the green light for Sunday's meeting with the Tampa Bay Bucs. He's under the weather, resulting in a questionable tag entering Week 17. But it appears the veteran will be good to go, which is good news for the Saints, a team barely holding on to playoff hopes. In any event, Kamara has played well enough for fantasy managers during the 2023-24 campaign, so he's a must-start in all setups. Unfortunately, with the 28-year-old on the field, Jamaal Williams' fantasy potential as a streaming option will significantly decrease.

  • Alvin Kamara Questionable With Illness

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (illness) was added to the Week 17 injury report on Friday when he missed practice, and he's now officially questionable to play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a big divisional clash. Kamara is under the weather heading into the weekend, although he still has a couple days to rest up and hopefully feel better enough to suit up on Sunday. If the 28-year-old bell-cow back still isn't feeling better by Sunday and doesn't play, Jamaal Williams will enter the fantasy picture as an RB3/flex in deeper leagues. Rookie Kendre Miller (ankle) could return for the first time since spraining his ankle in Week 9, but he'd likely have a limited role. Tight end/QB hybrid Taysom Hill would likely be much more involved on the ground if Kamara is out or limited in Week 17. Kamara is a must-start if he's active on Sunday.

  • Alvin Kamara Is A Low-End RB1 In Championship Week

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has now disappointed in back-to-back weeks after gaining just 19 rushing yards in Week 16. While he cannot be benched due to his sheer volume, Tampa Bay is no easy matchup for running backs. The Buccaneers have surrendered the eighth-least fantasy points per game to the position, creating a tough matchup for the veteran running back. Kamara should continue to be the primary running back and should remain used in the passing game, but does not have the same ceiling he typically does due to a tough matchup.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara struggled to get anything going on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams, as his longest play from scrimmage was a six-yard reception. Kamara ran the ball nine times for 19 yards, leading the team in rushing. He also caught five passes for 16 yards on six targets. Kamara disappointed fantasy managers who have ridden off of his success this season. The veteran running back should return to normalcy next week with elongated rest heading into a matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • Alvin Kamara Remains RB1 Despite Tough Matchup

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has scored double-digit points in every start this season in PPR leagues sheerly based on volume, and that should not change heading into Week 16's Thursday night matchup with the Los Angeles Rams. Los Angeles has quietly been a tough matchup for opposing running backs, surrendering the second-least fantasy points per game to the position. Despite being a pass-funnel defense, Kamara should still see his typical workload and cannot be avoided on Thursday. Start the veteran with confidence in the fantasy playoff semis.

  • Alvin Kamara Holds RB1 Status For Week 15

    Headshot for Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is set up for another prime fantasy performance in Week 15. The 28-year-old veteran should be in line for an increased workload with Jamaal Williams (groin) banged up, Taysom Hill (foot, left hand) being uncertain for Sunday, and Chris Olave (ankle) trending in the wrong direction to play in Week 15. At this point in the season, Kamara is the lone unscathed weapon for New Orleans. The matchup with the New York Giants draws appeal, as the Giants have surrendered the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Kamara has seen volume on the ground and in the passing game all season and that trend should continue in a good matchup. Fire up Kamara for the fantasy playoffs.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara ranks fourth on the season in PPR fantasy points per game, consistently putting points up with his sustained high-volume usage. Kamara's strong usage should continue heading into a Week 14 matchup with the Carolina Panthers. Carolina surrenders the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, with only Denver giving up more. In a game that New Orleans is projected to control, Kamara should be in a great spot for a potential smash game. Fire him up as an RB1 yet again.
