Position Rankings

Rank Name Bye Age ADP1 PPG2 Comment
Tier 1
1 Christian McCaffrey, CAR 13 25.3 1.01 30.0

Mike's Thoughts: It is rare for me to put a single player into the top tier by himself. McCaffrey's historical per game output is so far ahead of his peers, he would normally qualify, but coming off a season-ending injury, playing with a new QB, and the high turnover position itself - RB - I'll rank him 1 but in a group of similar high reward backs.

2 Dalvin Cook, MIN 7 26.1 1.03 24.1

Mike's Thoughts: He's missed games every season, which is to be expected for any RB with this many projected carries, really. However, there is a higher perceived injury risk with Cook going back to his 4-game rookie season. Double-digit TD and high catch numbers, thanks to limited receiving options on the Vikings, support Cook at 2. There are additional red flags such as Gary Kubiak no longer the OC, and Rick Dennison possibly out as the OL coach, which may warrant a fade on Cook.

3 Alvin Kamara, NO 6 26.1 1.04 25.2
4 Derrick Henry, TEN 13 27.2 1.04 20.9

Mike's Thoughts: Drafted Henry 1.06 (6) in a 1QB 10-team best ball on 7/20.

5 Ezekiel Elliott, DAL 7 26.2 1.05 15.4

Mike's Thoughts: Drafted Elliott 1.06 (6) in a 1QB 12-team PPR on 8/9.

  • Alvin Kamara Stifled In Loss To Panthers

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara carried the ball eight times for five rushing yards, adding four catches on six targets for 25 receiving yards in a 26-7 loss to the Panthers. The Panthers defense completely stifled Kamara, who had nowhere to run despite leading the backfield in touches once again. While his down performance likely cost many fantasy managers their weekly matchups, it was a positive sign to see him lead the team in targets after he had a somewhat muted effort in the passing game in Week 1. Kamara's workload and talent still warrant easy RB1 consideration moving forward, even in a tough Week 3 matchup with the Patriots.

  • Alvin Kamara An Elite RB1 Play Against Panthers

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is primed for a big game against the Panthers in Week 2. Kamara didn't have the most eye-popping numbers in Week 1- though he was undoubtedly the centerpiece of the Saints offense, handling 24 touches including 20 carries, his third-highest total in 68 career games, totaling 91 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. The All-Pro runner draws a matchup with a Panthers defense that surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points per game to running backs last year, including the most receptions and second-most targets. Kamara turned 22 touches into 148 scrimmage yards against the Panthers last year. Even if Carolina is sporting an improved defensive unit, Kamara's talent and workload make him a threat to lead the position in fantasy scoring every week.

  • Alvin Kamara Hauls In Receiving Touchdown

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara finished with 20 rushes for 83 yards and three receptions for eight yards and a score on four targets in Sunday's win over Green Bay. Kamara played a bigger role in the offense as expected with Michael Thomas (ankle) out for the beginning of the season. His generally lower numbers can be attributed to the fact that the Saints were playing with big leads for most of the contest. It's expected that Kamara will see high volume each week and that keeps him in the RB1 tier each week going forward. Up next is a matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

  • Alvin Kamara A Strong RB1 Against Green Bay

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is a solid RB1 in Week 1. Kamara posted a career-high 932 rushing yards and 16 rush touchdowns in 2020 along with 83 receptions for 756 yards and five scores on 107 targets. The Saints enter 2021 with a new QB in Jameis Winston and a lack of reliable passing game options as Michael Thomas is out for the beginning of the season after ankle surgery in June. This means Kamara is easily the most important player on this offense and should have a huge role. Adding to his case this week is the fact that the Packers allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to RBs last season while allowing the fourth-fewest points to QBs. This means that Kamara should be expected to take on many carries this week and is primed for a large showing.

  • Alvin Kamara Will Have Workhorse Role Once Again

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is coming off a 2020 season in which he posted a career-high 932 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns and he has a chance to build on that success in 2021 as he will once again be the workhorse back for New Orleans. Last season, the RB also posted 83 receptions (career-high) for 756 yards and five scores on 107 targets (career-high) in 15 games. Kamara is a dual-threat back who is expected to take on a significant role in this offense as elite talent is essentially devoid on this unit aside from the RB and WR Michael Thomas. Kamara is a solid RB1 for 2021.
