7 Nick Chubb, CLE 13 25.6 1.07 17.5

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is set to play the 2021 season on the final year of his rookie contract. Chubb has emerged as an integral part of the Cleveland offense and is on the record as saying that he would be open to signing an extension to stay with the Browns. If Cleveland is unable to reach a long-term agreement with Chubb, they could place the franchise tag on the talented runner for the 2022 season. Chubb has eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in two of his first three NFL seasons, falling just four rushing yards short of the mark in his rookie season. Chubb is in play as a mid-range RB1 in all fantasy formats in 2021 with a slight uptick in value in standard leagues. He's worth considering with a selection as early as late in the first round of redraft leagues. (Jul 13, )

8 Austin Ekeler, LAC 7 26.2 1.10 16.5

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is expected to have a big season with new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. Lombardi comes from the New Orleans Saints and has worked with running backs, Alvin Kamara, Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles in the past. Ekeler's skill set appears to be a perfect fit for Lombardi on paper. Daniel Popper of The Athletic projects that Ekeler will be lined up all over the field and should put up big numbers as both a rusher and receiver, provided he stays healthy. Ekeler missed six games with a quad injury in 2020, but has only missed two games outside of that in four years. Ekeler has the ability to help all across the board and he should be one of the top options in PPR leagues entering this season. (Jul 15, )

Mike's Thoughts: Very low projected rushing TD, but very high projected receptions, so obviously, a better choice in PPR leagues. The rest of the Chargers RB depth chart is pretty uninspiring, so Ekeler should have a heavy workload.

9 Aaron Jones, GB 13 26.7 1.12 18.4

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will head into training camp with a brand new contract, but is there another level to his game? Jones posted another strong season in 2020, averaging 5.5 yards per carry while racking up 1,104 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns. Jones posted at least 70 all-purpose yards in each of his last nine games, even though his touches were limited multiple times. Jones' RB1 status the past two seasons has been pumped up by an impressive number of touchdowns (31 total scores over his last 30 games played). The Packers should once again be an elite offense (if Aaron Rodgers returns), but it may be fair to question whether Jones could be in line for some regression in touchdowns in 2021. (Jul 13, )

10 Saquon Barkley, NYG 10 24.4 1.07 7.7

Mike's Thoughts: Given concerns about Barkley even starting the season on the active roster, and there isn't much reason to be bullish about the Giants offense, I am fine to fade Saquon for now.

Tier 3
11 Clyde Edwards-Helaire, KC 12 22.3 2.06 13.5

Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire should be expected to remain at the top of the depth chart to enter the 2021 season. CEH started the season on a high note, but struggled down the stretch. Edwards-Helaire also dealt with ankle and hip injuries towards the end of the season and missed three games. CEH averaged 61.8 yards per game on the ground and 22.8 yards per game through the air with a total of five touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving). CEH only rushed for over 100 yards twice in a game and the third most was 79 yards in Week 15. Despite those numbers, CEH is still a very talented running back, but is affected by being in a pass heavy offense. The good news is that he is involved in the pass game. CEH should be considered as a low-end RB1 in one of the most powerful offenses heading into the 2021 campaign. Those drafting CEH will want to consider running backs Darrel Williams, Jerick McKinnon and Darwin Thompson in order as insurance policies. (Jul 15, )
