Position Rankings

Rank Name Bye Age ADP1 PPG2 Comment
Tier 1
1 Christian McCaffrey, CAR 13 25.3 1.01 30.0

Mike's Thoughts: It is rare for me to put a single player into the top tier by himself. McCaffrey's historical per game output is so far ahead of his peers, he would normally qualify, but coming off a season-ending injury, playing with a new QB, and the high turnover position itself - RB - I'll rank him 1 but in a group of similar high reward backs.

2 Dalvin Cook, MIN 7 26.1 1.03 24.1

Mike's Thoughts: He's missed games every season, which is to be expected for any RB with this many projected carries, really. However, there is a higher perceived injury risk with Cook going back to his 4-game rookie season. Double-digit TD and high catch numbers, thanks to limited receiving options on the Vikings, support Cook at 2. There are additional red flags such as Gary Kubiak no longer the OC, and Rick Dennison possibly out as the OL coach, which may warrant a fade on Cook.

3 Alvin Kamara, NO 6 26.1 1.04 25.2
4 Derrick Henry, TEN 13 27.2 1.04 20.9

Mike's Thoughts: Drafted Henry 1.06 (6) in a 1QB 10-team best ball on 7/20.

  • Dalvin Cook Dealing With An Ankle Injury

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (ankle) suffered a sprain during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The 26-year-old was injured late in the game, and while head coach Mike Zimmer didn't seem too concerned about it, fantasy managers certainly are. Cook may pop up on the injury report heading toward Week 3, with some additional days off and limited practice sessions also potentially on the horizon. If he isn't available for the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Alexander Mattison will unquestionably get all the attention he can handle from the fantasy community.

  • Dalvin Cook Quickly Returns To Action

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook entered the injury tent but quickly returned against the Arizona Cardinals. At the time that Cook had entered the tent, the Vikings were winning 20-14 and Cook had a lot to do with that. In just the first half, he had already amassed 103 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches. Cook missed a of the Vikings' offensive snaps and one drive with the Vikings on defense and seems to be good to go for the rest of the game.

  • Dalvin Cook Still An RB1 Against Cardinals

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will take on a Cardinals defense that allowed the 14th fewest fantasy points to opposing runners in 2020. The Cardinals allowed only one runner to post 100-plus rushing yards against them last season but Cook is no ordinary running back. The Vikings star picked up six receptions, 104 total yards with one touchdown in the team's Week 1 loss to the Bengals in overtime. Most running backs in the NFL would be delighted with that stat line but Cook is capable of so much more. The Vikings dynamic runner will be an easy RB1 call and worth the DFS price for Week 2.

  • Dalvin Cook Gets Plenty Of Work In Week 1

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook racked up 61 yards off 20 carries during the overtime loss to the Bengals on Sunday. He also added to his PPR appeal, catching six of his seven targets for 43 yards, and found the end zone off a one-yard run halfway through the fourth quarter. Although a fumble cost the team the game, it was still a solid showing overall, as expected. With Week 1 in the books, Cook will look to keep it going against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Obviously, he remains a must-start in all fantasy formats.

  • Vikings Sign Brian O'Neill To Five-Year Extension

Minnesota Vikings right tackle Brian O'Neill has signed a five-year extension worth $92.5 million, making him the second-highest paid player at the position in the NFL. The former second-round pick has played in 46 games with the Vikings and is viewed by many as the best offensive lineman on the team. In 2020, he played 1,070 offensive snaps while taking eight penalties and allowing three sacks, according to PFF. Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins are sure to be the main beneficiaries of O'Neill sticking around in Minnesota, as he can open up some running lanes and give his quarterback enough time to throw the ball.

  • Dalvin Cook Gets Juicy Week 1 Matchup

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will have a favorable matchup in Week 1 against the Bengals. Cook was fantastic last season, posting 44 receptions, 361 receiving yards, 1,557 rushing yards and 17 total touchdowns through only 14 games. Cook can begin his encore this season with a matchup against a Bengals defense that allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opposing running backs last season. The Bengals allowed at least 80 rushing yards to nine different players last season and 14 total touchdowns to the position. Cook has an excellent chance to post elite RB1 numbers in Week 1.

  • Dalvin Cook Still Among Group Of Unvaccinated Players

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is one of the league's most elite options out of the backfield. He finished the 2020 season by racking up 1,557 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground off 312 carries while also adding 44 catches for 361 yards and another score. The 26-year-old has yet to log an entire season as a professional, and while his health is always a concern, his hesitancy on receiving the COVID-19 vaccine could spell trouble later on. It's no secret that the NFL is more lenient on players who have taken the shot, especially as it relates to missing time and quarantining. Still, Cook is anticipated to finish as a top fantasy producer, although it wouldn't be a surprise if he missed a game or two this season for various reasons.

  • Dalvin Cook Not Expected To Play A Lot Saturday

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is not expected to see a ton of game action in the team's second preseason game Saturday. Head coach Mike Zimmer has told reporters that quarterback Kirk Cousins will get some much-needed reps but the coaching staff would be wise to keep their best offensive player in bubble wrap until Week 1. Cook should be one of the first players taken off of fantasy draft boards this year and, by season's end, could be the number-one fantasy player in 2021.

  • Don't Expect To See Dalvin Cook In Preseason

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook remains primed to be one of the first players taken off fantasy football boards as the 2021 season draws near. But don't expect to catch any glimpses of Cook during the preseason as the coaching staff has to be smart with their dynamic runner. The 26-year-old dealt with injuries his first two seasons and his health will be paramount to the Vikings success this season. Cook is will try and replicate his 2020 season when he rushed for 1,557 yards with 16 touchdowns.

  • Dalvin Cook Still A Difference Maker

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook remains a top-five choice among all players in fantasy as training camp looms. Cook racked up 1,918 all-purpose yards with 17 total touchdowns last season and was a dominant force at times. Cook totaled eight different games with at least 100 yards rushing and averaged an impressive 4.99 yards per rush. The Vikings have elite offensive weapons but it has not translated into wins. Cook is a surefire RB1 and, if healthy, could make a run at 2,000 total yards in 2021.
