  • As James Conner goes, so goes the Cardinals' offense

    Headshot for James Conner

Conner's hard-running style not only gets the offense fired up but opens up the play-action passing game.

  • James Conner Will Not Carry Injury Designation For Week 2

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner will be good to go in Week 2 against the New York Giants as he does not carry an injury designation anymore. The 28-year-old was dealing with a calf issue this week but ultimately was able to feel good enough to shed the injury status altogether. As the main source of offense for this team, he'll likely be a low-end RB2 since he'll the see bulk of the opportunities in the backfield. His main limitation will be the offense playing from behind due to a lack of scoring ability.

  • James Conner Says He's Physically Ready For Week 2

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (calf) has been a limited participant in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday but said on Friday that he feels physically ready to play against the New York Giants. The workhorse back said, "Feeling pretty good, man. Awesome challenge for us, so body feeling pretty good." Conner would bring a much-needed piece of the offense against a solid defensive unit, especially since the team is still without their starting quarterback. He'll continue to be the feature back and get plenty of opportunities, but the team will likely be playing from behind most of the game. This leaves him in the low-end RB2 to flex range in Week 2.

  • James Conner Remains Limited At Practice

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (calf) remained a limited participant at practice on Thursday. Conner should be fine to play in a Week 2 matchup at home against the New York Giants, but he was seen wearing a sleeve on his calf during practice on Thursday. The 28-year-old is Arizona's unquestioned lead back as long as he's healthy, but the problem is that the Cardinals offense will likely be one of the worst in the NFL this year under quarterbacks Joshua Dobbs and rookie Clayton Tune with Kyler Murray (knee) uncertain to even play this year. Conner will once again operate as a volume-based, low-end RB2/high-end RB3 with a low ceiling and floor this Sunday in the desert.

  • James Conner Limited With Calf Ailment

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner (calf) finds himself on the initial injury report for Week 2 and was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday. The fact that he's on the practice field at all early in the week is a sign that Conner should be good to go for a Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants in the desert. The 28-year-old is the clear workhorse back for a rebuilding Arizona team, as he handled 52 of the team's 62 offensive snaps in the Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders. He turned his 19 touches into 70 yards in the season opener. In one of the worst offenses in the NFL, Conner will have a low fantasy ceiling and floor. If he's active in Week 2, he should be considered on the RB2/3 borderline against a Giants defense that just allowed 40 points to the Dallas Cowboys.

  • More Trades Could Be Coming For Cardinals

    Headshot for Budda Baker

The Arizona Cardinals already made three trades on Aug. 24. They have a brand-new coaching staff and a brand-new front office and are looking forward to 2024 and beyond. The Cardinals have two first-round picks next year as a result of a draft-day trade with Houston, and they aren't going to shy away from amassing more draft capital during their rebuild, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. Safety Budda Baker already requested a trade in the offseason. Wide receiver Marquise Brown can also be traded without any dead-money hit at all. A running back-needy team could come asking about James Conner around the trade deadline in October. Graziano wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals swing a few more deals before this year is over.

  • Keaontay Ingram Barely Involved In Team's 18-17 Victory

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals running back Keaontay Ingram was barely involved in the team's third and final preseason game versus the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. In the epic come-from-behind victory, Ingram had only four carries for 20 yards. While the volume and stats weren't there in this one, Ingram does still project to be the number two back for Arizona behind James Conner. Despite Ingram's rough rookie season, Conner's injury history makes this backfield fascinating as the team prepares for their Week 1 matchup vs. the Washington Commanders.

  • James Conner Could Have Heavy Workload In 2023

    Headshot for James Conner

The Athletic's Doug Haller writes that with Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) injured, it's hard to know what to expect of the Cardinals offense early in the year. Arizona would be smart to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible, which would mean a heavy dose of running back James Conner. The 28-year-old has proved he can perform at a high level heading into his seventh NFL season. He had 973 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 and rushed for 752 yards and 15 TDs with Arizona in 2022. If he can stay healthy, he'll at least have the volume to make him a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in fantasy. Conner surely has a nose for the end zone, but how often will the Cardinals get there without Murray. And his injury history gives him a scary floor.

  • Keaontay Ingram Scores, Making Strong Case To Be Arizona's RB2

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals second-year running back Keaontay Ingram was everywhere in the Cardinals' loss to the Chiefs on Saturday with seven carries, two catches, and a kick return. He had 28 rushing yards, 20 receiving yards, and another 10 yards as a returner. The 2022 sixth-rounder's high point was a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Ingram is looking to solidify his position as James Conner's backup, and while no one is questioning Conner's RB1 status, he has missed at least two games every season, including four in 2022. Ingram could be worth stashing this season, given his versatility and Conner's history with injuries.

The Kyler Murray homework clause showed signs the team’s recommitment to its previous nucleus may not work out, but it was difficult to predict just how far the Cardinals would fall. • Keaontay Ingram Dealing With Injury At Camp

    Headshot for Corey Clement

Arizona Cardinals running back Keaontay Ingram has not been practicing of late at training camp due to an undisclosed injury. The Cardinals are unlikely to use starter James Conner much, if at all, during the preseason, so Arizona added to their running back depth on Friday by signing veteran Marlon Mack. Outside of Conner and Ingram, the Cardinals lack experience with names like Corey Clement, Ty'Son Williams and rookie Emari Demercado in the backfield. Ingram, 23, is a former sixth-rounder from last year. He saw only 27 carries in his first year in the NFL in 2022 and ran for 60 yards and one touchdown in 12 games (zero starts). Ingram won't be worth drafting in standard-sized leagues, but he'll become a popular waiver-wire pickup if Conner misses time with injury in 2023 due to Arizona's lack of depth behind Conner.

  • Cardinals Comfortable Using James Conner As Bell-Cow Back

    Headshot for James Conner

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Thursday that he's "100 percent" comfortable with running back James Conner being the bell cow of the team's running game this year. There is little in the way of competition behind Conner in Arizona, but the problem for fantasy purposes is that the 28-year-old is unlikely to stay healthy for a full season, and the Arizona offense could struggle to move the ball consistently with the potential that starting quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) could miss around half the season. Conner has a nose for the end zone -- he's scored 22 touchdowns on the ground and another four as a receiver the last two years -- and should see plenty of volume, but his upside will be limited in 2023 as more of a low-end RB2/high-end RB3.
